An employee asked me yesterday "do you ever get sore throats after giving head?"

Today she calls in sick with complaints of a sore throat.

I'm missing a friend's funeral right now because I had to cover my employee's shift.

I can't tell if this makes me a good boss or a bad boss.

^ People get sick. It happens and you can't punish someone for it even when it hella messes up your own plans. When I managed Radio Shack stores I had many such occurrences.

Unless you start seeing patterns. Then it's time to write people up.

I understand that but her calling in sick sounds so fake and phoned in. She just wanted the Saturday off especially based off of the conversation that she had the day before.

This wasn't just a regular calling in sick which I wouldn't mind.

It's just that it's suspicious and she will think that she can get away with doing that in future.

Maybe so but if you can't prove that you have to give her the benefit of the doubt. Unless there's a demonstrable pattern. Without that you're very possible looking at a snootfull of trouble with the state. Saying "It sounded so fake" would guarantee you'd lose that action.
