A magic key always seemed plausible as a child. He was a magical character, he could have a key that works no matter what the house. Or he could magic it up from thin air, it always seemed more plausible than a chimney.

But to actually contribute to the conversation, I have to say I agree with boardsofcanada on the hot/cold thing.
I know it's probably cliche' by now, but you can only take so much clothes off in the summer... I live in Louisiana and it's humid and hot... plus I'm a guy, so I sweat and absolutely ruin clean clothes. Plus having to run the AC... it all equals me spending a lot more on the electric bill. There's nothing awesome about that. But winter? Pshh... I'll throw some logs in the fireplace when cold or just put some clothes on when I go out. Way cheaper, and easier to control your comfort.

Cold weather is fun. You get to wear more sweaters, hats and scarves and snow is so pretty... and christmas! that's FUN!
