I have two problems with Silver, Gold, and Crystal. First, the main quest is too short, and then you get put back in the world from the first games. I think it's cool you get to go back, but it comes at the cost of the new one not being as cool or developed as it could. Not to mention that it trivializes the first eight gyms.

And secondly, the roster of new Pokemon isn't big enough. I like that the old school Pokemon are still there, but I like to build a team with only new ones, and it's hard to find enough good, new Pokemon, especially early on. It bugs me that I have to wait to go back to the original world just to get a Houndour. Not that I don't love the games, but Red/Fire Red and Blue/Leaf Green have my soul.

And you should totally get Fire Red and Leaf Green. They're every bit as good as the originals, but with better graphics, running shoes, and you actually get to see the details and stats of attacks before you choose them. It bugged me to no end in the first game that I had no idea how good an attack would be without first getting rid of one my other ones. And even then it could be hard to gauge. The added storylines of the new islands you get to go to after you beat the Elite Four is also a big bonus. You can get some of the Pokemon from Gold and Silver, and after you get through the islands the Elite Four get upgraded Pokemon.

Have the post-GBA Pokemon games actually measured up to the old school games? I never hear people go on about them sucking, but I see the newer Pokemon and they're just not as good. Even Ruby/Saphire Pokemon just weren't as cool as the first two games.

It's basically the new school Growlithe, so I don't see why they couldn't give him to you halfway through the first eight gyms just like that one.

I just cheated the game and got Mew, Mewtwo, Pikachu and all the three original choice Pokemon. Not leveling them up though.
