Dude, it's an apartment complex. I rent. They own this thing.
Yea, I thought the same thing when I first read their policy, which prompted me to do research. I'm fairly sure I won't be avoiding it by moving to another complex. I guess it's based more on the management and type of place though. I had a duplex in Florida in '02 and my landlord never came in unexpectedly. But then again, he just owned a couple duplexes. Where I live now, it's a large complex with multiple locations. The policies are just different.

s_k 01-23-2011 08:55 PM

I guess. It's just awful that people you know come to your house at a time you can't pick and have the freedom to go through your stuff whenever they want to.

It still looks like old crap though

Didn't really need to explain the fact that there's a difference between the brands/types of gear, and what your average gear-ignorant viewer is going to care about... but I see what you did there, and I can only hope it makes the difference you hoped for. ;)

s_k 01-23-2011 09:00 PM

I sort of figured you'd know the difference :)

Freebase Dali 01-23-2011 09:10 PM

My representation of the demographic I commented about does not.
So thanks for adding the info.
But I don't think they care.
:D

storymilo 01-23-2011 09:10 PM

Let's see some more padzz.

Yeah! Gimme more :).

ThePhanastasio 01-23-2011 09:14 PM

The monthly inspections seem to be fairly standard where I live, actually. At least three of my friends currently live in apartments which have inspections, and only one of them receives the common courtesy of a knock on the door before the inspection is conducted.

They got my friend on a random inspection a week or so ago (the second in that month) and she had a half-empty liquor bottle and someone who didn't live there asleep on her couch. She didn't get in trouble for it, though. So I have no idea how bad someone would have to be to fail an inspection.

I'm pretty sure I have indeed completely missed the point. :D

I don't personally think your entire collection consists of reel-to-reels...
I never thought you thought that. So now I am sure I missed the point.

Of course, maybe I'm missing something you're trying to say as well. I'm not immune to the sarcasm-dampening effects of intent represented by text any more than the next guy. :)
Nah, I've discovered it's pretty hard to recognize or use both sarcasm and humor in text when you don't read and write in your own language.
I miss quite a lot of what's said on this forum. But most of the time I'm not part of the discussion. This time I am. And I ****ed up.

So... Do you think it's neccesary that you explain to me what you meant? :D.

Freebase Dali 01-23-2011 09:22 PM

Actually I just misunderstood what you meant by your previous comment. Which is why I deleted my response to it.
Either way, at a certain point, all we're left with is an assumption of intention. I do my best, but my best is nowhere near perfection. ;)

djchameleon 01-23-2011 09:27 PM

So Freebase are you trying to say that your place is so clean that it looks like you are an american psycho?

s_k 01-23-2011 09:32 PM

An assumption, indeed. As I'm still not sure what we're on about here, I guess I just won't assume anything :D.
I'm not even sure about the tone we we're using. Something doesn't feel right but I can't really put my finger on it. Just to be sure: no hard feelings here. I wouldn't know why since I still don't know what this was all about. Confuses the **** out of me. I hope we're good ;).

It's 5:27am here now, I'm writing this on my phone as I'm in my bed. Good night!

Not for the fact that it actually IS clean.. but for the fact that it LOOKS clean... yes.

I originally thought it was pointless of you to list your gear and their brands as a response to a comment that I made which was meant to state the probability that many people viewing the pictures may just assume that you have a crap load of different reel-to-reels, with little else.
I hadn't anticipated that you would feel the need to list brands with some kind of relevance that those I was talking about would appreciate in any way that would warrant your response.
Eventually, I just allowed myself to assume you had some other agenda in mind and relegated myself to having made a mistake, without further inspection, simply because the entire thing got boring.

The original joke was that if 10 percent of your featured gear (which is expansive to say the least) looks like reel-to-reels, then the other 90 percent probably wouldn't be much different. The fact that you posted about the 90 percent is what prompted me to make the joke, which has turned out to have been a ridiculously bad idea.

:)

The inspection part really isn't an 'inspection', but if your shit is nasty, it gets reported. So I don't leave any room for interpretation in that department.
After a while, it just becomes second nature.
Well... I sorta got that nature from being in the military... we had some serious inspection shit going on there. Consequences were bad. I guess I can attribute my behavior to that, mostly.

Thats what did it to me. Im not as gung-ho as I was, dusting every horizontal surface and such, but much better than the clusterfuck I had going on before the military. I believe a lot of it has to do with not owning many things due to the constant travel, thus resulting in complete lack of concern for most of my belongings.

djchameleon 01-23-2011 10:19 PM

pfft the Military influence of cleaning and being tidy was lost on me...I haven't kept up with that....the only thing the military still affects me with is that I'm an early riser and a morning person.

Okay, here is my cribs video. I realize there is a part of it where it's pretty dark and you can't see what i'm showing but it was basically just my two cat beds and my two acoustic guitars.

Don't make fun of my voice :( I hate it.

I work at a resort, in Florida, which has about 550 privately owned units, some being condos for timeshares, others being someones personal mansion. I have keys to them all, but it is all determined by whether or not the owners want to be on a maintenance plan and how extensive it is, almost like insurance. I really only attend to major electrical issues, but some guys I work with perform preventative maintenance in those homes daily. Its actually very common around here due to the high volume of gated communities. Old people come here to retire and pay more to have landscaping, maintenance, pool service etc... taken care of by the housing association.

Nice Marven Martian poster! My favorite part was "it gets so f*ckin cold in here."

sidewinder 01-24-2011 02:56 PM

s_k. I LOVE your space.

I haven't even looked at any posts beyond your first one, and just had to say that.

Arya Stark 01-24-2011 04:49 PM

Yo I like all of your cribs.

Queen Boo 01-24-2011 05:09 PM

I feel poor.

Scarlett O'Hara 01-24-2011 07:24 PM

I have made mine but just trying to transfer it from my phone to computer! Watch this space.

djchameleon 01-25-2011 12:32 AM

I'll re-do mines during the day and I'm waiting Vanilla.

My goodness, it's a ****ing garage.
I apparently have done something right :)

Dirty 01-25-2011 07:11 PM

sk, your place is pretty badass. Just seems really neatly organized and just an awesome place to live minus those steep stairs, but I'm pretty sure I could put up with them to have a crib like yours.

Conan - Start using the Bowflex or whatever it is, fool. Like 15 minutes a day will go such a long way. Get swole, broski. But nice room, I dig it. If that's your definition of messy, my old apartment would have been the definition of dumpster. But nice room, I dig it.

dj - Did you forget to pay the electric bill? Get some light in there lol. Overall though it was a nice tour, actually reminded me of my Dad's old place which was weird.

Good stuff guys, love the videos. I'm gonna try and rent a camera from my university soon and yall can check out Dirty's crib.

Seltzer 01-28-2011 10:21 AM

Heh, I was considering this thread idea a couple of years back until Big3 said it would be creepy

Anyway, here are a few pics of my room... I won't show the rest of our flat since it's not worth seeing.

A small subset of my books and CDs, and half of my bass (Ibanez Silver Series)

Nerd central

Exactly half of my room is painted dark red for some odd reason, giving it a rather dungeon-like quality... and yes, that is Damo Suzuki's signature :tramp:

The precious things of the shop... I'm not actually obsessed with Coca Cola - my mum just buys me coke merchandise as a 'safe' present whenever she doesn't know what to get me for Christmas.

My Bowie shrine

s_k 01-28-2011 01:21 PM

Pics! Finally :D
Looking good :)

djchameleon 01-28-2011 01:27 PM

haha The Bowie Shrine is definitely the highlight of your place, Seltzer

s_k 01-28-2011 01:28 PM

As I don't like bowie, I'd vote for the maiden poster.

Zarko 01-28-2011 08:33 PM

Love the Baldur's Gate throw Seltz. I've got an old Icewind Dale one sitting around here somewhere...

Guybrush 01-29-2011 03:01 AM

Seltzer, kudos for having the Baldur's Gate II map on the wall :p:

I'm still waiting for this one actually! Did you change your mind?

djchameleon 01-30-2011 09:32 AM

Here is an updated version with more lighting.

s_k 01-30-2011 05:42 PM

Hahaha, your commentary is awesome :D.
So what kind of house do you live in? It's on street level, right?

djchameleon 01-30-2011 06:02 PM

No, it's on the second floor, there is a barber/salon on the first floor beneath me.

s_k 01-30-2011 06:20 PM

Ah I see. Seemed street level on the video :).
I heard you say 'there's books overthere'.
Couldn't find them. Just reviewed your video.
It's boots! Boooots :D.

Burning Down 01-30-2011 08:51 PM

Nice place DJ! Extra points for the N64 Zelda games :D

djchameleon 01-30-2011 08:52 PM

Thanks, they were in my closet last time so I thought I would showcase them this time around :)

Scarlett O'Hara 01-30-2011 10:31 PM
