I read through some of the threads in this forum, and there have been plenty of pretty harsh things said about Tom Petty regarding his voice, his songwriting abilities, and his opinions of different types of music.

That's cool, though. Not everyone likes everyone, including Tom Petty. If people think he's a crusty old dinosaur, that's cool, too.

That's what's known as generations. It never stops happening.

Now, I'm 53 years old, so I have an entirely different opinion of Tom Petty.

Here's a guy closer to 70 than 60, who was going out on tour with his band Mudcrutch.
Yes, Mudcrutch, not the Heartbreakers. For those who aren't aware, Mudcrutch was his original band, before he hit the 'big time'. He got those guys back together and was doing a small tour, because he was still friends with those people and still enjoyed playing with them.

Tom Petty had character. He spoke his mind and didn't pull any punches, much like the post posts I've read in here by people down on him & his music.

And, like the people in here, he should be respected for being forthright about how he felt.

I grew up with Tom Petty as part of my life's soundtrack. He had a long & productive career, sold out arenas right to the very end. I should know, I was there in Philly on July 1st.

You never saw or heard of him beating up women, shooting guns, being a jackass in n public.

For 40 plus years, the guy did it right. He put out albums, he went on tour, and had peoplen standing & cheering.

Thanks, T.P.

Thank you for defending Tom Petty's honour. The world will remember you selfless actions.

I checked out some Heartbreakers album a few days ago which was possibly the first time I consciously listened to Tom Petty. As far as blandish dad rock goes it wasn't half bad.
