Yeah, can't say that I think Vicky White was "innocent" or "ordinary" by any means. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes. Some of the news outlets are floating the idea or possibility that it was the inmate that shot her and not suicide - still, even if that's the case, can't say that opens up my wellspring of sympathy. What did she expect to happen when she went on the run with a convicted killer? Flee to Canada or Mexico and live happily ever after?

Shivkumar Sharma

Another musician we've lost to kidney disease in the past couple of weeks.
Absolutely amazing performer and one of my very favorite musicians who
I've been lucky to see a number of times - at least twice with Hariprasad Chaurasia
with one of those times accompanied by Alla Rakha and another by Zakir Hussain.
Incredible highlights of my life. Didn't realize he was 84. Great life in music.

At least 84 is "a good age" rostasi. Sorry someone you so admired has died.

I take your point, Trollheart and SGR: perhaps "ordinary innocent" is overstating the case, or at least should only be applied to her previous self, right up until she made a really bad decision and, as they say, "paid the ultimate price." For that reason, I think I'm ready to give her a break in eternity and let her RIP, given how badly her blunder at age 56 turned out for her. But sure, go ahead with a "vengeance is mine saith the lord" approach if you prefer. She is in the end a total stranger to all of us: a story briefly in the news, which we'll forget about until (I predict) they make the Netflix movie about her.

Oh, I don't play into this at all.
He was loved and admired worldwide.
This is on the level of the recent death of
Lata and, too, a few years back of the death of
the great Uppalapu Srinivas at the age of only 45.

I've no problem wishing someone rest in peace. Well, maybe Trump when he finally stops using up our air. But I just took issue with your characterisation of her. Which I think you've realised. So no harm done. Let her RIP; I just don't feel sorry for her. Nobody put a gun to her... oh. Sorry.

I do sympathize with her because she was looking for true love

I always wonder why a few women will fall head over heels over convicted murderers in jail to begin with. Do the really want adventure that bad?

I watch a lot of true crime stuff, this condition is known as hybristophilia - check out the link below, has more info about it and possible causes - it can affect men as well, but given the greater frequency that men commit high profile crimes that receive news coverage, we are more aware of the condition in women. But make no mistake, plenty of men have sent female inmates fanmail, e.g. the female members of the Manson family.

I am very used to not recognising the people you mention in this thread, rostasi, but Shivkumar Sharma was clearly well-known: his demise was given prominent space on the front page of yesterday's BBC website, alongside Ukraine and Roe vs. Wade.

Well, that put a big smile on my face this morning. Thanks Trollheart.

^ This, jwb's comment, and SGR's about Hybristophilia (which is new to me) - these speculations are exactly why her story is so worth a movie.
Running away with a bad man, running away from a bad man: I wonder if Vicky White didn't also have Thelma And Louise running through her confused head...
