Default What can always get you into the creative mood (song, film, people, etc.)?

There is always that one thing that you can't help but to become inspired, and begin the creative process (any form of "art" or expression)......what is yours?

Creative in what sense? Musical, or broader than that?

I would like to relocate this thread to the Lounge, because it's a pretty broad topic encompassing more than music.

You are very right. My apologies for not being specific.

To answer the question at hand, I'm inspired to write and create artwork primarily by exposing myself to artwork, writing, and music that I thoroughly enjoy. That's fairly obvious and probably applies to most, but I am also deeply inspired (not just in terms of art, but in my attitude and lifestyle) by travel and culture.

Thats really awesome. It just goes to show how necessary it is to be aware of one's own surroundings in order to help shape and adapt them to those things to come. Not to mention what comes forth from it.

I'm mainly inspired by my subconscious and my dreams, as well as pretty much anything intangible (I really enjoy pictures and music that are blurry or out of focus) or mysterious/dark (I've always been intensely fascinated by ghosts and goblins and witches and things of the sort). I really like being in places that provoke strong feelings for one reason or another. Dark cities almost always evoke a lot of fantastic imagery for me. I feel comforted by all the lights, and yet I feel apprehensive about the dark pockets where no one seems to be. I've always preferred the dark; everything is more interesting at night time.

There's something about being alone in a foreign city that brings out the best in me.

Those are the best kind. It's like food for the brain! There's just so many new things to look at and experience.

Well, not a true "foreign" city, as in outside of the U.S. (as I've never been to one), but just one I've never been to. I imagine one that was outside of the country would be even more intense to experience.

I've found that I don't enjoy North American cities very much. The culture and history is all too recent and homogeneous to really inspire me.

Yeah exactly. I was in a city in Delaware that had been around since the beginning (1600s), and that was just unbelievable to me. On the other side of the coin, I do still enjoy very urban places as well. I enjoy almost all cities, unless they have nothing to offer. Like if they have some history, but aren't all that old (or even if they are old, and you just couldn't tell because they don't embrace it). Or are urban, but not big or sprawling enough to be all that interesting or dramatic. Going to NYC was an absolute blast for me. I can't wait until I go back!
