Basically, I'm disgusted that some people are born with every advantage in the world, while others spend their whole lives climbing out of the holes they were born into. I also hate how the superficiality of humanity perpetuates the advantages/disadvantages, with society's emphasis on beauty and financial success. And the fact that reality rewards those who aren't afraid to **** people over in order to make it in this world, while punishing those who do right. In some ways society has degressed in altruism, in other ways progressed.

tl;dr it's a dog-eat-dog world, and all those animalistic tendencies we thought we've shed in becoming 'humane' are still very prevalent

No. I don't have the time to think about the inevitable. The rat race is a quick one remaining focused on life is hard enough.

But if you die, then who will put the cheese at the end of your rat's maze?

Yes, yes I am. If anyone actually thinks about it, I believe they are too.

You can push to the back of your mind, gloss over it or have faith in something, but I think if anyone stops and really considers that their existence will end (not just thinking about dying as a concept or subject of discussion) it IS scary. Sometimes easily done when it's dark and you're alone.

I'm in the same boat as you fluffy when it comes to getting to sleep. If I'm not tried and I'm lying there in the dark I'll just start thinking about things, and inevitably death will comes up sooner or later. Comes up far more often if there's not much is going on in general. There was a period where it cropped up almost every night, a combination of factors at the time I think.

The thing is, thinking about it won't change anything, there's no solution. And even at a young age I realised adults couldn't comfort me really, I'd just be spreading the misery and didn't want them thinking about death too. At some point I actively avoided trying to get to sleep unless I was properly tired. I just read/ listen to music, stay up etc until I'm ready. It petered off and it very rarely hits me as strong as it used to.

When it comes to my death, I suppose the emotion is more panic based. When thinking about loved ones, sadness.

Well, that's a bit of a downer. Baby cheesus!

Probably the most depressed I ever was was when the idea of oblivion after death finally hit me. I was in high school and for a few weeks I was inconsolable. My emotions were shot and just gone. All I could think about was my own looming death. I actually think it was a lot like the grieving process, except I was grieving for my own death. I sorta got over that, but I've never been able to really accept death. Still scares the **** outta me just a much as it did then, the wound is just scabbed over now.
