Sort of. You singled out that comment about knowing what comes after death, and said "we" even though many people believe otherwise (probably more than half the world population)

I agree 100% that we rot when we die, and haven't seen logic to explain otherwise

What exactly are you suggesting? That we should be afraid that we'll somehow be magically transported into a never-ending loop of Barney songs while getting anally penetrated by millions of very sharp stinging caterpillars, for the rest of eternity?
That's not even what I said. I'm under the same impression as you are, we rot in the ground. However, that doesn't prove anything. There are enough people that believe otherwise which makes it a viable response to this topic.

There is no disagreement. Our bodies die, then they rot. If we are discussing whether people are ignorant to that fact, then say so, and it's an entirely different argument.
And if we're going to just make assumptions about what "could" transpire outside of a physical realm, then we're just making assumptions. Which is why I'm not scared of being anally raped by a sadistically sharp stinging caterpillar for all of eternity. Because it has no basis. And if we lend credibility to assumptions based on the amount of people that believe unsupported things, then we may as well be afraid of all sorts of a lot more than this.

So this whole thing is a theoretical assumption about what happens metaphysically after you die, that also doesn't prove anything? Oh. Now I get it. We're just basing all this fear on what people assume, based on crap they've been brought up to believe.

Now it's all coming together.
Yep. Perfect reason to fear death. You grew up wondering if you would end up being tortured by a sharp stinging caterpillar after you die.

I don't see how my original comment isn't crystal clear without having to have typed all this. Maybe I'm giving people too much credit.

I have some kind of deep arrogance in me, I can barely sense it. I'm not an arrogant person, or at least that's my view of it, but it almost insults my subconscious or something to know that I'll die some day.
I think this is the attitude that comes closest to my own; at some level I am affronted by the idea of no longer existing, so I prefer to turn my thoughts away from the prospect and pretend I`ll live forever ...

On the other hand, death is often accompanied by physical pain, loss of ability and loss of dignity, so I sometimes worry about the way I will exit this world. I wonder about which is worse; a long, slow decline or over-before-you-know-it. What would you all prefer ?

I'm pretty much this.

I'm more afraid of the process than the outcome. But then again, I'm a single guy with no kids, so I'm not TOO worried about what I'll leave behind. But on a solely selfish level, I'm basically just reticent about the fact that I won't be able to live anymore. I like living. But I am simultaneously comforted by the fact that I won't be able to begrudge the revocation of that privilege. Just like I wasn't able to do so prior to being born. So at least there is solace in that.

Wait, so how many of you would take immortality if it was offered? And no you can't opt out of it if you get bored.

I can think of several people on this site who I'd sacrifice to Azazel for immortality.

Tbh I'm more discomforted by the fact that a superhuman moral system doesn't exist
