that is awesome!I didn't think of my wedding as terribly important (it's just one day in my life of many), but my wife thought it very important and I am happy to say that it turned out completely awesome. Much better than any church wedding I've been to! One thing I don't like with church weddings, aside from me being an atheist and not a hypocrite (imo), is that religion sometimes steals attention away from what I think is important, which is the people getting married and their dedication to eachother and their love. Some priest reading passages from the bible often detracts from that, I think. Also, churches feel sort of oppressive in that if I say something or accidentally cough, the acoustics will make sure everyone knows At least in Norwegian churches, people tend to turn quiet, obedient and not quite themselves. We wanted a more relaxed environment for our wedding.

It's not going to be a big deal, just a chilled summer day with our family and friends... at least, that's what I'd kinda planned it to be, but things are kinda tending to get a little bigger and grander than I originally set out to be - but that's ok! But yeah, church wedding was totally not an option for me for those very reasons. Edit: Thanks! It's a pretty exciting time! You would know all about it!

Oh, that is great news Kate! Congrats!
I both love and hate weddings, generally. I'm a bit of an old soft bastard and probably, in many ways, more of a romantic than a lot of people would imagine me to be. I'm also quite a miserable bastard in many other ways though. Basically I think I can see myself being fully involved, patient and invested if and when its my own wedding, but as much as I do like to see people happy, especially those around me, I also really hate the having to dress up and forced socialising and excitement I feel is required of me at other peoples weddings. I'm obviously not saying I wouldn't be happy at their wedding, or that socialising is an issue for me, but I do feel pressured into appearing about a hundred times happier than I actually am at all times, all day long. I will undoubtedly reach a point during the day or night where I will find myself sitting thinking "Ok so you got married, yay, now can I go home yet?" |

One of my best friends is getting married in September and honestly I don't want to go because it'll mean seeing all my old junkie friends but I love her and she's done well for herself so I gotta go. At least it's an occasion to buy myself a new dress

Karen will be okay for a week or two on her own, wont she? Oh, wait... ![]() Thanks for the invite though! Really appreciated! Just don't show up the bride TOO much! Hard I know, but sure try...
