Hey, is anyone else married here?

Don't remember anyone using the terms wife or husband when talking about significant others.

YorkeDaddy 04-30-2015 03:29 PM

No but I plan on proposing in September

Pet_Sounds 04-30-2015 03:29 PM

I am, but don't tell my parents.

Let me guess... older woman?

May 28th will mark 32 years for Linda and I.

Got married in a back yard by a JOP and had our reception at a Legion hall. Did the entire thing for $1,000. Family pitched cooking and a buddy of mine DJ'd for the first and only time in his life.

Nobody would have me... :(

By the way, good luck YorkeDaddy: hope you get the answer you're looking for and congratulations Chula! 32 years! Man, that's more than a multiple murderer gets! Seriously, well done to you and your lady. :thumb:

The secret is anal sex. Nobody is walking away from Chula and his magic finger.

Thanks. Almost fell apart a number of times through the years. These days we're more friends than anything else.

Shhhhhhhhh!

Apparently the key to not getting a reply in this thread is being married.

About 24 hours long I imagine.

YorkeDaddy 04-30-2015 06:40 PM

Honestly for us it's more a matter of "when" than "if", thank you for the kind words though guys

It was... a wedding. Way too much family interference to be a great memory for either of us, but I'll always remember looking into my wife's eyes as we said our vows. That part was magical. And the eight years since have been great, which is the important part.

Funny you mention that. We'd gotten engaged and planned a date and our families jumped in to the point we called it off caused they were pissing us of. Then Linda got pregnant so we kinda shotgunned it.

Burning Down 04-30-2015 09:02 PM

I feel like my wedding will also have way too much family involvement.

GuD 04-30-2015 09:05 PM

what is marriage?

ladyislingering 04-30-2015 09:05 PM

I was, once.

It was a grave mistake.

Now the most important person in my life won't even consider it.

Which I'm not sure if I'm ok with or not.

But I had to go through a divorce at age 23 because the person I married was a violent, abusive man.

Frownland 04-30-2015 09:07 PM

I'm pretty sure that sir Blarobbarg is engaged now.

Put your foot down early! Once they get their hooks in you can't get them out.

Yeah, I'm sure he'll look back on that as the best decision of his life.

It's not so much my family that I'm worried about, it's his! I think when you marry a Serbian you marry the entire family, lol. You just become one of them

It's been over 4 years now though so I think people just know to not keep asking us about our future plans. It's all a matter of WHEN, and not IF we're going to get married.

So, if you get married, what will you serb at the wedding? I assume you'd balkan at something as boring as chicken.

Plankton 05-01-2015 08:01 AM

A pre-congrats Chula, that's a long haul.

Jansz, I had a feeling you were. Kids?

Very cool Yorke. I'm sure you'll find a way to make it special, just please for the love of God, don't do the 'propose at a sports event' thing. I can't stand when guys propose in huge public arena's and crap like that. Do people really need that much attention? It just seems like it takes away from the sanctity of it all. It's always fun when the woman says no, though.

BD, you're definitely a keeper, I'm surprised it's taken this long.

I've never been married. Just separated from a relationship of 17 years recently. Happiest I've been in a long time.

YorkeDaddy 05-01-2015 08:28 AM

Yeah no way jose, if I take it public it'll be someplace small around mostly people we know. Either that or I'll take her someplace scenic

Chula Vista 05-01-2015 08:30 AM

I proposed over dinner in a swanky restaurant. Swanky based on our budget back then. I think it was a Bonanza Steak House.

For the reception we told everyone it was over at like 7:00. But we really had the hall for another two hours and only told our closest friends about it.

It's gonna sound corny but the night ended with the 15? of us dancing arm in arm in a circle to Stairway. Everyone blasted out of their minds except Linda cause she was prego.

Then we all headed back to our tiny 2.5 room apt. for another bit of partying before Linda and I left for a hotel room. My best man crashed in our bathtub and there were like 4-5
people passed out on our bed when we got back the next morning.

That joke is so bad that it's actually good, lol.

Like I said, it will happen. It's just a matter of when. He's been here on a visa for most of our relationship and only just got permanent resident status a few months ago. He's waiting for a PR card from the government before we move forward. Otherwise it's a little bit risky, like they'll think that he's just marrying me to get PR status or citizenship, which is marriage fraud. Like what mail order brides do, lol.

Fucking government red tape.

adidasss 05-01-2015 10:23 AM

Are you starting to learn some serbian? :D

I've learned basic words and phrases over the years, but I'm still bad at it

Nope, but we've had the marriage conversation a few times and it's definitely in the future. Just need to sort some things out first and also get real grown up jobs, lol.

Carpe Mortem 05-01-2015 12:03 PM

I consider myself married because I don't want to give in to the religious overtones of an actual marriage.
