I always try to make people understand the logic of maths. In the first place, it will make things more fun and they might start to like it. But a more practical reason is that if you just follow the rules without understanding things, you have to learn huge amount of those rules in the end, and then in my experience students start to confuse those rules and can't keep a structured overview of it all. The more you grasp of what lies underneath, the less you have to remember
It's cool that you're learning Swedish btw

Edit for afterthought: if people will not pursue maths after school, the useful thing they got from it is the ability of logical, analytical thinking. Making people only learn the rules causes them to develop that ability to a lesser degree, and that would be a bit of a waste

as long as you show your work, you can get partial credit even for a totally wrong answer like a "I see where you were going with that, but no" type of deal

regardless Algebra is not as difficult as I made it out to be in my head, you just memorize the steps and don't ask too many questions

there's usually multiple ways to solve a problem, but I always go for the one that just requires memorizing a formula, it always feels kinda like cheating but whatevs

that's not cheating lol... That's how you're supposed to do it.

The giving partial credit for wrong answers sounds more like cheating.

Thank God. For a minute I thought you were trying to include blacks. That doesn’t work very well. They’re quite hostile.

She lives in Belgium. I'm pretty sure the police hunt them on sight.

I remember I was in the remedial math class with a bunch of little thugs cause I didn't care about school and didn't go to class often.

And we had this one teacher in 10th grade who came in all enthusiastic and new to the trade. She had to be in her late 30s or early 40s but she was relatively young looking. Very enthusiastic and the kind who tries to be friends with the kids.

Over the course of that one semester I watched her wear down. Saw grey hairs popping up by the end of it. Wasn't quite how you see in Dangerous Minds etc.
