And I mean you've already stated you don't want to do anything with a degree so why do you care about graduation requirements?

I took a course on Jazz appreciation or something at IU and I was loving it, however a month or two into the semester we started having these quizzes where the professor would play a clip and we would have to know who the saxophonist was just based on their playing style. And I understand that this is a thing that true, devoted fans of jazz can do, but for me it was ridiculous and basically impossible. I failed multiple quizzes in a row and had to drop the class to salvage my GPA even though I loved going to that class otherwise. It was a bummer

Your professor sounds like an idiot.

Do you remember any examples? Because a lot of the big names are very distinctive in their playing style.

Yeah it felt ridiculously unreasonable to expect students that are otherwise not music majors to be able to do that. All the other quizzes in the class had been normal, manageable stuff. This is all several years ago though, so whatever.

Thanks my man. I genuinely don't know what will be different when it comes to doing my taxes. I hope it's not completely dreadful

I don't remember unfortunately. And I'm sure it's something I could have studied harder and eventually done well on those quizzes, but as a non-music major it just wasn't a class I was willing to put that much extra effort into. If it had been a jazz-related class for music majors then I would of course have no qualms with a professor giving those quizzes, but since it was just a generic elective option I think he was expecting way too much out of his students.

Largely true. I think that Anthony Braxton has a pretty good approach. He goes into the theoretical, artistic, and deconstructionist sides of music as opposed to the traditional strictly theoretical academic method.

Not at all!!! Find yourself a good tax guy and spend the $200 or so it'll cost you.

You can deduct all of the interest part of your monthly mortgage payments come tax time. For the first years you're paying mostly interest so it's a massive savings.

Also, keep ALL receipts and docs for anything house related. A good tax guy will find all kinds of ways to minimize how much income you're taxed on each year.

Even 15 years into our mortgage we were getting thousands back from the gov. each year.

The government loves people who own property.
Just ask Trump!
