If someone was in a jam and needed you to keep three of their cats for five months how much would you charge them?

It's a bit hypothetical isn't it? I have no clue. With Eddie here I couldn't do it, and whether I'd be willing to look after someone else's cats is something I couldn't say, but if I was, chances were it would be a friend, therefore I wouldn't charge them, except maybe for cat food and litter. The vet's rate seems to be around 10 - 12 Euro per cat per day, which I think is pretty reasonable.

Sorry to hear TH. That is tough. I've been through it before several times. Never gets easier.

it is what it is. I've said my piece and I won't debate or further.

I probably would've bit my tongue in the first place of o didn't have people saying you're dead inside and you don't know what you're talking about cause you don't love cats like I do.

The other side of the coin is that only on mb will people judge your ability to offer advice and/or feel personally attacked by another’s indifference to cats

I've doubled checked, but at no point did I ever say you were dead inside. In fact, I believe I was as respectful as I could be, while still refuting your advice. I said twice at least no offence, so I'm not sure why you're taking offence.

Yeah but I'm not a vet. And nobody could take them on short - or indeed, any - notice at the time, if that's what you're getting at. Still not quite sure where you're coming from here?

That's of course incorrect. I'm saying - and I believe I'm right in saying - that while jwb has a right to his opinion, I don't value it IN THIS INSTANCE as he has made it quite clear he has not the same attachment to pets as I do. It would be like someone saying - oh wait, it IS like someone saying just put the cat down, what's the big deal? I KNOW that's not what he's saying, but it's the position he's coming from. Again, I think I've been as polite and respectful as he could expect me to be: I didn't say shove your opinion or what do you know etc, merely pointed out that him giving me (very important if followed) advice on my cat is like, say, me lecturing him on whether or not he should have a gun, or drive a certain car, or date an Asian, or anything else I'm unqualified to advise on, and on which my advice is unwelcome.

I mean, when it gets down to it, it's a simple no, so I don't know why this has become such an issue. Eddie is my cat - mine and Karen's - and we will decide what happens with him. I did not ask for advice on whether I should consider euthanising him; this was offered off the bat by both jwb and Hawk. I don't have a problem with them giving their opinion, but I sure as hell ain't gonna take it. They know nothing about the bond between Eddie and Karen and I, so what do they - especially jwb - feel gives them the right to advise me to put my cat down? A mercy killing? **** that. As we say here, me arse I will.

jwb 02-14-2021 09:04 PM

No, you didn't say I was dead inside. Adidas did. That was long before I said you should put the cat down btw..

then later on you provoked me with "except that guy :)"

That's when I figured I'll tell you what I think if you wanna provoke me. I know it's a sensitive subject which is why I originally abstained from offering said advice.

but I'm not offended by you rejecting my advice. I just called BS on you saying i didn't have the qualifications to offer an opinion. The real truth is I was saying something you don't agree with and weren't receptive to, period. It wouldn't matter if I did have a cat for 18 years and then mourned him for another 18 years. You still would reject the opinion because you've made up your mind. It is what it is. Like I said before it's your choice and I take no offense at you not agreeing with my opinion. I wish the best for both you and your cat.

Frownland 02-14-2021 09:10 PM

I'm not offended, I'm just resentful and annoyed because of a perceived insult.

Coming soon: why heat doesn't exist because it's just a transfer between systems or objects with different temperatures.

jwb 02-14-2021 09:14 PM

I'm not offended at him not taking my advice.

I am somewhat offended at him telling me i just don't get it cause I didn't own a cat for 18 years. As if I don't understand loss.

And I'm even more offended when someone tells me I'm dead inside just cause I dont love cats the way they do.
