So is this a pro-Russian government, anti-Russian government, I mean just what is Poland right now?

You see, it’s all just mixed up and makes no sense.

The society in overall is very anti-russian. People here are really good at holding grudges against...well...someone who they identify as the „historical agresor”.

And the ruling party is very anti-russian, anti-german, anti-EU, anti-anything really. In words at least.
They are even against the people who made Poland turn from a Soviet Union Satelite state to the modern, democratic, capitalist one it is now (they call them „traitors”, and so on, even Lech Wałęsa, Peace Nobel Prize Winner, and leader of the movement that made the change happen).
At the same time their entire model of running the country is very soviet-era-like.
And their international policies make Poland go further away from the EU and much closer to the Russian sphere of interests.

It’s absurd really, and I don’t get how is it possible that they are winning elections time and time again.

The funny part is their electorate is like 60% people that are over 60 years old, and 70% of their electorate are people who never even entered a college (university).
So I guess they win on the resentement these people hold against „the establishement” and „the elites”.

Anyway, long story short:
They are anti-russian in words, and pro-russian in deeds.

Sounds like a really volatile and potentially dangerous situation. You ever tried to get out?

The Batlord 11-11-2021 12:53 PM

So is there any bleed over from Ukraine or is all of this craziness purely homegrown?

Poland has turned into a pariah within the EU, along with Hungary. I would absolutely love it if both were kicked out at some point. The EU is not just about a shared marked, it should be about shared values also and they are demonstrating lately they absolutely do NOT share EU values. So fuck 'em.

Europe Weighs Border Walls as Migrants Mass in Belarus at Poland’s Frontier

The European Union is adopting a tougher stance toward migration in response to what officials see as a hybrid attack from a close Russian ally

Yeah, it is. The sad part is that prior to 2015 you could think that most of poles are pretty open-minded and willing to drift more and more into the ideologised „west”. There was this feeling of „the right direction” or something. Or at least that’s what my parents say they felt like when reading the news, etc.
Then as my father likes to put it „the masks fell off”.

I wouldn’t remember much of these things, as I was 15 at the time Law And Justice took over; so I had better things to do than being interested in politics and stuff.

You know, in a general matter I’d like to emigrate someplace else for good. All this **** going on here isn’t really my cup of tea.
I did move to Paris for a year, but ever since the coronavirus started I’m back here. I also became very homesick in France, and I fell into a sort of a deep depression when I was out there.
My girflriend was here, all my friends, my band, the places I’ve known, etc.
I guess I have a love and hate relationship with this place. Or as the great Obywatel GC put it in his most famous song:

It’s not a carnival, but I still want to dance
And I will dance with her till the break of day
It’s not a party, but I’m still having fun
Oh, sleepless nights and sleepy days

She’s not my lover, but I still sleep with her
Even though everybody laughs at me for it
She’s always tired, always drunk
So please don’t ask me, don’t ask me why

I’m still with her
Don’t ask me why
I’m not with another girl
Don’t ask me why
I think that
There won’t be a better place for me

Don’t ask me what
Do I still see in her
Don’t ask me why
I’m not in love with someone else
Don’t ask me why I still want
To go to sleep and wake up in her

Those filthy railway stations were we always meet
These nameless masses who curse her to hell
And that bum who hums to himself
That as long as we live, She will live aswell

So don’t ask me why
(...)

He’s refering to Poland, obviously

I still plan to move though - hopefully to London - next year.

I’m not sure what do you mean by „bleed over”.

But yeah, it’s generally homegrown. The people over here were never exactly the brightest, and at the same time are being fed since primary school the resentement towards how the world always treated „us” unfair.

Or something in the likes

You know, I think you should take more things into consideration before making such bold statements.

You see, Poland (or any country for that matter) is a pretty abstract concept, a mixture of territory, government, the army, the culture and the people.

Now of course the current polish government is someone we should all agree to **** and kick out of anything, but by saying you’d „love” Poland to be kicked out of the EU you’re forgetting about the people.

Governments change, but the people have to live with previous governments decisions.
By kicking out Poland, you’d also be kicking out me, my parents, my friends, my dog, and all the other people who protest, vote against, or just do not agree with the L&J policies.

In the last presidential elections, the results were pretty much 50/50, with the morronic current president winning just by 200K votes (it was 10M to 10M200K).

So as you can see the polish society is not really sold on this **** they’re doing.
Now last year, the former PM who was the president of the European Council for 4 years came back from Brussels, as this sort of Knight in White Armor, to make „things right”. And with his return to polish politics hopefully the tides will change.

By saying „**** Poland” you’re basicaly saying „**** Mucha and the 20M like-minded people” as well as the current government and the 20M morrons who want them to rule.

So, you know, just chill out, Poland isn’t Hungary or Belarus yet. The society is just lost in the new world it wants to belong to
