Is this a rewriting of the book of Job? Or is it a poem about the Norse tree of life Ydraggsil? Who cares? I don't and neither should you. Had the film been merely disjointed gorgeous images like in the first hour and the final 1/3rd, I'd had given this 10/10, no contest. But in the middle, though I like Malick's ponderous meandering style, it just isn't very interesting, the story of the boy and his father and brother. 6/10

A complete bore which was nice to look at!

A lot of people here, including critics, really praised that film. I find it a bit hard to do so when it's so hard to relate to. I don't know what it's like to grow up in the American suburbs back in the days with a very strict father. The relationship between the kids and the parents is very little like my own upbrining. As such, that kind of presentation of that sort of stuff to me becomes a bit boring, even if I can imagine what it's like. The story is just not appealing to me.

it would have been more interesting in a different setting

i mean i liked The Thin Red Line - equally as boring, but looked kinda neat

The New World was hell to sit through, but in retrospect, i thought it was ok

I loved The Thin Red Line. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after I watched it.

The New World not so much.

Andrey Tarkovsky's Solaris. I thought it was a fantastic film, even though some wouldn't necessarily go for it. 10/10

Barney's Version

I was a bit disappointed by some of the changes and omissions in this film adaptation, but it was nevertheless well made, well-acted, funny, and both heartwarming and heartbreaking. 7.5/10

I saw this in theatres today, definitely not what I expected but good nonetheless. Worthy of the Oscar buzz but not the win IMHO, I believe that will go to The Tree of Life. But otherwise, I really liked the vibe and the comedic efforts of this film, 9/10.

I knew it would be an absolute crock but I just had to see it for myself and it lived up to it's reputation. Russell Crowe in his first major Hollywood film must have been laughing his bollocks off when he read the script and Mr Washington what were you thinking?

It's directed by the same guy who directed Lawnmower Man. Say no more!

There is no doubt that Ben Affleck is proving to be a far better director than actor and this was well made but lacked the emotional intensity of his previous film Gone Baby Gone.

However I applaud his location shooting and authenticity in using local actors and vernacular.

Decent concept ruined by a gossamer thin plot that just begs to be ripped apart. Bradley Cooper's charm is almost perfect for the film but it straddles the line between wanting to be intellectual and kowtowing to studio execs who assume that the audience need everything explaining to them.

Noel Clarke (Co writer and Director) is becoming a serious face on the British movie scene (Kidulthood/Adulthood) with his succinct juggling of urban tales and glossy commercialism and although this does lack cohesion, kudos to him for creating a film that is almost exclusively female led without resorting to caricature.

A 4 way story a lá pulp Fiction minus the cool factor plus believability worth staying with..

Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I have to say I like Swedish version better
