I have probably seen that around 20 times, love it to bits.

The main problem with this film is that I couldn't give a **** about any of the main characters and whether they survived or not. The aliens were terrible too. Worth a watch and a few funny lines but it was a let down.

Films have a three act structure and this is the very definition of that and it suffers because of it. First act is domestic drama, second act is brutal action as the hitmen are at work (the hammer scene in the kitchen is gut wrenching) and the third act.... well I won't give anything away but the film goes off on a truly bizarre way.

The acting and direction is damn good and it is a very well made low budget film but I can't see myself watching this one again.

So...

What did I just watch? I've seen it twice now, actually, and I guess I need to bounce thoughts off of others to get a grip on this art film and where it's coming from/going.

Anyone else seen The Holy Mountain? It seems perfect for an acid trip. It probably was made by people on acid.

Oh, and I saw Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and enjoyed myself. It was quite entertaining. I got a couple good laughs in...

That is the most "WTF Movie" I've ever seen. Ridiculous.

"Hall Pass"

I can't see the pic but I am guessing it's Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain? I have been wanting to see this for years along with El Topo. I have his only foray into Horror (even though it is much more than that) Santa Sangre and it is as near to art I have come across especially in the Horror genre.

I advise you to check out Santa Sangre if you get the chance.

I've only seen Santa Sangre once, over a decade and a half ago, but it still sticks with me. Such a fantastic movie.

Yup, and I watched it a third time and feel confident I get the message and understand the plot. The visuals are top notch. I do really like what he did there. Some of its uncomfortable to watch, and that's done on purpose.

Spoiler for Example::
Testicles getting cut off to go in the 1000 testicles collection, which is quite a visual... the wall of testicles in jars.

So I just finished getting a copy of El Topo but haven't checked it out. A review on Holy Mountain stated to the effect of: While El Topo is dreamlike and unreal, Holy Mountain is supposed to be "all real" or some such. So I need to see El Topo to get a frame of reference.

Also, I'm gonna have to check out Santa Sangre, thanks for the rec.

Spoiler for About the scene towards the end of Holy Mt.:
I like, at the base camp for Holy Mt. on Lotus Isle., they have a bar/city that has all sorts of folks that came to travel to the top but got sidetracked at the bar or what-not. One dude says all his different drugs are all his Holy Mountains. He says: "The cross was a mushroom and the mushroom was also the Tree of Good and Evil. The Philospohical Stone of the alchemist was LSD. The Book of the Dead is a trip. And the Apocalypse describes a mescaline experience." Thought that was kind of neat...

A pretty cool movie. Not a war movie as you would think but has to do with the US military presence in Germany when East and West were beefing. Dont confuse with the 1997 film of the same name about a group of black soldiers in the civil war, because I did at first when looking for it online.
