Would either of you reccomend any other jim jarmusch films? I've seen Broken Flowers, which was okay. Nothing on his imdb page seems as enticing as ghost dog

^^both Dead Man and Cigarettes and Coffee are good

saw:-

bizarre mix of Flash Gordon, Star Wars and Avatar - even had some Cowboys Vs Aliens initially but i enjoyed it, i wouldn't know what i would think in retrospect in the future - Edgar Rice Burroughs is, of course, more famous for Tarzan but this is pretty underrated. Pretty good job transplanting the book. I thought they'd cram in all 25 (?) books in one film, but it's just based on Princess of Mars - 7/10

Dead Man for damn sure. But I don't know if it will entice you very much.
I also love Stranger Than Paradise and Down By Law but those are both some serious indie shit.

Mystery Train is pretty good and I like Night On Earth but that one may be only because I like watching Winona Ryder onscreen even when she's not being a very good actor.

I find Broken Flowers to be quite good but it's slow and maybe not very enticing.

I haven't seen anything Jarmusch made after that one. And none of his other films besides Ghost Dog feature modern day Samurai along with a cultural message but still watch Dead Man at least.

Here's my haul from the last couple days...

I think one will get better on a second viewing. I like Andrew Garfield but Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan get on my nerves. I feel like Knightley is always overacting and Mulligan just is a bore to watch. A BORE. It worked in Drive but not in this one. I liked the story and it was shot very well, but I feel like a slow burner like this is going to need time to register. Overall it was okay.

6/10

I loved Time Bandits. I never got around to seeing it when I was a kid and it escaped me until now. Wonderful movie that could be seen by kids (the smart ones) and adults alike. Anything Gilliam does is brilliant in my eyes. Oh...except Tideland. That was horrible.

8.5/10

I thought this one was great. One of the first slasher films and definitely one of the best. I loved every time the killer was on the phone or present at all. Wonderfully creepy.

8/10

This one scared me just as much as Collapse did. I'm afraid of banks now. It was very insightful even though I had a hard time trying to understand what a lot of it meant. I just haven't had too much experience with home loans and investments yet. Don't really want to now. I'll just keep my money under the mattress.

8/10

Weird movie. I don't have much to say besides the fact that I didn't even enjoy it for it's quirkiness.

4/10

Good spaghetti western in space. I enjoyed Sean Connery in this one more than I did in most of his 007 roles. Some scenes were really dated and corny but the movie as a whole was enjoyable.

6.5/10

LOL. This movie made me laugh. It was pretty bad. Here's my favorite line.

"Let's go do some crimes."
"Yeah. Yeah! Let's go get sushi, and NOT PAY!"

Bwuahahahaha.

3/10

It's a bad thing for a comedy to make you laugh?

I'm surprised to see this get such a low rating from someone, especially on MB. It's one of my favorite movies. Unique, funny, beautifully shot, full of great performances, has an amazing soundtrack, and as you demonstrated above with one of my favorites, incredibly quotable.

I don't really know about it's cult status. I didn't get the feel that it was really a comedy. I got the feel that they were trying to do something with it but failed. I guess I just interpreted it wrong. My rating stays the same, but I guess I understand why people like it so much.

Stanley Kubrick's first film. I can see why he hated it so much. It was horrible. YET, it was fun to watch knowing that an absolute genius was behind the camera. I'm actually not going to rate this one because there is no reason too. It is and will alsways be horrible but it's such an essential and rare look into the early stage of Kubrick.

It IS a comedy though, not the smack-you-over-the-head-with-it vein, more in the vein of a Coen Brothers or Jim Jarmusch movie (in fact, Jarmusch's frequent collaborator Robby Müller was the cinematographer for Repo Man). The "get sushi and not pay" line is a joke, you get that right? The movie is making fun of a character who is an idiot. It's funny because it's ridiculous, as is Duke's dying "society made me do it" monologue and a huge number of other absurd moments in the film. This whole movie is massive lampooning of everything from punk rock to 80s pop culture to the Weekly World News. Yet, on top of that, it's also this gorgeously constructed, oddly affecting piece of work. And it's incredibly re-watchable because of the amount of detail packed into it (the weird choice of cameos, the odd little details jammed into every frame). Just a suggestion, because I know from experience it's a grower: you really may want to consider watching it again some time.
