Have you seen Up? Thought it was incredible personally, would definitely rate it above Wall-E.

Apparently Let Me In (2010) is actually a worth remake of the original. Everything I've read on it has been pretty generous, but I still don't think I'm going to see it. American remakes of foreign films have less to do with the director showing his appreciation for the original film and more to do about illiterate motherfuckers who can't be bothered to read subtitles with the obvious exception being The Departed (2006). For me I've seen the original Let the Right One In (2008) and read the book, and I enjoyed getting the view of another culture. Believe it or not but there do exist some Americans (and Canadians) who can actually relate to non-Americans (and Canadians), I just wish Hollywood would understand this.

TheCunningStunt 10-31-2010 10:30 AM

I won't be seeing 'Let Me In', even if it's a respectable remake it's still an unnecessary one. 2 years after the original, they're making an English language remake.
I've heard it's pretty much shot scene for scene, it's literally a film for the ignorant.
And I hate it for that, it's already grossed more money than Let The Right One In and that's a damn shame. The original is sublime, haunting, chilling, beautiful.
Why remake it?

NSW 10-31-2010 10:35 AM

I don't understand why everyone is so utterly disappointed by these remakes. Even if they are a ****ty version of the original, often times they can be a pathway to viewing the original version. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a movie, found out there was an earlier (and often times much better) version, and eventually checked it out and liked it 10x times better. And of course there are those occasions where the remake might actually stand out more.

Wonderful, Caine plays the perfect anti-hero.

It's about time I watch this one. Loved it. And that's the only good enough poster I was able to find... I can't believe people actually prefer this man with the beam of light going out of his face, as poster.

Good action sequences, engaging enough plot, acting was... ok.
Overall it was a decent flick, enjoyable enough.
If the other 2 films live up to this one then I'll be pleased.

Ink (2009)
Pretty good little indie fantasy movie. The low budget is very noticeable but the filmmaker still managed to put together an engrossing and visually interesting finished product.

Because it's the original film release artwork!

Although I am regularly pleased that many older/cult titles are released on DVD, I get really annoyed if the artwork has changed especially if it looks like some photoshopped crap but that is a cool poster.

You don't change an album cover even if it sucked so the same should apply to movie posters.

Horror movies generally have the most cover changes so that's why I loved the early era of DVD's that included the different overseas artwork for the films either as an extra or in the form of postcards in the case etc.

Its been awhile since I saw this movie. It's great!

To whomever it was that recommended Anchorman, damn you! Seriously unfunny movie...:\

Also watched The social network, which was very good, Toy story 3, also very good (favorite of the series actually), Scott Pilgrim, also very good but not as good as Kick ass and Whatever works by Woody Allen which was just good, but still very watchable.

I wouldn't really call this a sequel, more of an expansion that only really exists to provide answers to some of the questions posed in the first movie. The acting was pretty meh, the characters weren't really defined enough to make me care about them, and most importantly, it's not scary. For a horror movie that's a pretty big problem, titanic even... if I wanted to watch the daily coming and goings to a suburban family via CCTV I'd kill myself to rid the world of my uselessness, or put on Paranormal Activity 2, whichever is easier.

I didn't like Kick Ass personally, I found it a bit meh, and far too Blegh.

I saw The Social Network today, courtesy of the internets.

Maybe I should have watched it in the theater or something, but I thought it was pretty overrated. The acting wasn't bad or anything... it just wasn't a very rewarding watch. I feel like I would have had just as good of a time watching a movie about the guy who invented Coca Cola. That sort of theme is what you'd see in a documentary, and I guess I'd have felt more interested if it was in that format, as there really wasn't much else going for the movie aside from it being a dramatic portrayal of something obvious.

I don't think I'll be watching it again.

I haven't seen it, but it seems like it would be even worse than watching a movie about the guy who invented Coca-Cola. It would be like watching a movie about the invention of some Coke knockoff.

i thought it was spellbinding...

i read your post but I still don't really know what you mean. maybe you came into it with bloated assumptions?

what's not to like? intriguing plot, above-average acting(i didn't really like mr. saverin though), and great direction. it's not flawless, but what is?

It's been out for at least a year even longer I think and I have still not got around to seeing this version and indeed buying it. Flawed film but still enthralling.

debaserr 11-03-2010 06:13 PM

i just re-watched burn after reading and it was exactly as i remembered.

really uneven film. the coens tried to get the actors to appear almost slapstick. it mostly annoyed me(pitt pulled it off well). there are a few great scenes, and handfuls of mediocre ones. the script is passable.

i really hope the coens do more comedies in the future. and i would hope they would take some lessons from how this turned out. it could've been special with the cast they assembled.

Fatt Matt 11-04-2010 09:42 AM

Last thing I saw was Jackass 3d probaly one of the most disgusting movies made so far. I think they tried to hard to be funny in this one. But they did have so funny stuff in it.

It was okay. The title is very misleading it should be "through the looking glass." I guess not very much people are aware that there is a sequel or something so this would appeal more?

Decided to have a double feature. This is arguabally the most ****ed up movie I've ever seen.

If you think that's good, find a way of watching this and prepare to be amazed ;)

^ Not bad, but not that spectacular either. On the plus the, the initial premise is intriguing, I loved the look and feel of the misty trench settings, most of the actors did pretty good jobs and it was a pleasure to see Kris Marshall cop it. Too many plotholes and inadequately explained resolutions though and, for what's supposed to be a horror movie, it really wasn't very unsettling at all. Not to me anyway.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_6sPJQbNSaE...filmplakat.jpg

^ And I just thought I'd revisit this ol' chestnut as well. It's about the 10th time I've watched this, and I'm still not bored of it in the slightest - definitely in my top 10 of all time.

The French Connection (1971)
I had been really looking forward to this movie but I have to say I was somewhat disappointed by it. It had some great moments and the soundtrack was terrific but overall it left me kind of cold.

This is the first time you have seen it?

It is certainly not an absolute classic as some would lead you to believe but it's still a fantastic film and that ending is quite simply superb. I thought Scheider and Hackman make a great team and prove what underrated actors they are.

http://www.nycmovieguru.com/moviepics/factotum.jpg
I have never read any Bukowski on which this film is loosely based upon via his fictional characters and just like the main character (played with aplomb by Dillon) it lacks focus and becomes a little too repetitive in it's themes. Yes you drink, you write, you meander through life- what's new?

It lacks an insight-fullness of say American Splendor that at least had a sly humour behind it's depiction of everyday drudgery.

Maybe if I was familiar with Bukowski's writing then I could maybe appreciate it more.

Holy wow. This is one of the best/weirdest movies I've seen in a very long time. There were so many crazy ideas in it and it was really well pulled off, I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. You don't even have to know who John Malkovich is.

TheCunningStunt 11-06-2010 10:54 PM

Being John Malkovich is definitely a favourite, I was wowed by how good it was as I never expected it to be anything more than ok/decent.

i love many movies within the kaufman canon. that, adaptation, eternal sunshine, confessions of a dangerous mind, and synedoche, new york.

Not as good as the first, but I still enjoyed it. There was no real epic fight scene in the movie. The fight with Elle was going to be pretty epic until it ended anticlimatically same with the fight with Bill. Instead of them going in an intense action sequence they just die.
