A Clockwork Orange Crazy movie. I'd never seen it before but I was very excited to watch this. Cinematography was spectacular, as I expected from Kubrick. The acting was superb and the sets and props were very imaginative. The rape scene was tastefully difficult to watch, and the ending sequence was absolutely brilliant Overall, however, I wouldn't say the film was as violent as it is often portrayed to be. A lot of the violence was more on the slapstick side of things, though the aforementioned rape scene was fairly disturbingly violent, and Spoiler for :
was also quite shocking. I know that part of the magic of this film is how disturbing it is without being overly bloody or gruesome, but part of me was wishing for that during my viewing. Whatever, it was excellent. 9/10 |

Pretty darn good. I went into the movie not knowing a whole lot about it, which I prefer, and I came out pleasently surprised. 7.5/10 |

Secretary (2002) I love this movie, and not just because it has Maggie Gyllenhaal getting spanked and pleasuring herself. The relationship between her and James Spader's character is one of the more interesting ones I've seen in movies that's kind of like a car wreck, you can't help but watch as these two erm.. alternative people try to adapt in a "normal" world. Its got some humorous moments but overall it's more of a drama than anything else. |

Reel Injun A documentary about Hollywood's portrayal of American Indians throughout the years. I thought it was great. Interesting, informative, sometimes downright funny and frequently filled with thought-provoking commentary from the interviewees. |

The Ward http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...0,214,317_.jpg I'm a sucker for horror films, and I love anything to do with psychiatric hospitals. I know that sounds weird, but the brain in general fascinates me. |

and http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ead-poster.jpg Evil Dead 2 and Breadead Was in the mood for some gory slapstick comedy last night. |
just curious....did you actually watch a copy of Braindead or was it Dead Alive....just wondering if they are different cuts?
i know when Dead Alive was first released in the states there were two different versions.....this is back when "unrated" really was different the "r" :) |
It was the uncut version of Dead Alive, but I looked at my digital copy of Braindead on my hard drive and it was the same length so I got to see all the splattery gore.

Smoke Signals I had wanted to see this when it came out, then kind of forgotten it until recently. I really enjoyed it. Pretty funny in parts, and absolutely heartbreaking in others. It's famous for being the first American Indian written and directed film (pretty crazy such a thing didn't exist before 1998) but it's so much more than just an interesting piece of film history. It's a great, self-effacing, unpretentious movie about family, and especially about the things that go unspoken in the strained relationships between fathers and sons. Loved it. Also, Irene Bedard is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen in a movie. I feel light headed even thinking about her. |

Lake Mungo (2008) A very interesting mockumentary that makes a focus on the grieving process after death. It can be a little slow because of its nature, but the production and acting make it feel very authentic which really helps exacerbate the creepiness of the film. It does pacing and atmosphere building quite well which is helped by the films soundtrack that is really dark and ambient. What sets it apart is the fact that this "haunting" isn't malicious and the way the family reacts to the death of a family member is unique from most ghost stories. The third act kind of falls apart and the mystery is lost, but it does all come together in a way that's not convoluted. If you find it on Netflix I would recommend catching it, it won't blow your mind but it's a neat little story. 7.5/10 |
I have to thank LoathsomePete and bob. for pushing this recommendation my way.
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...0,214,317_.jpg All I can say is, wow. The story was very well done especially with being psychological thriller. The ending was great. Wasn't what I was expecting. Thanks for the rec guys, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Been wanting to see a movie like this for a while now. |
'The Hunger Games' at the cinema. Was very good.

Cube (1997) I had heard a lot about this movie while looking for cult horror/sci-fi movies on the Internet. I've heard people call it major inspiration for the Saw movies which would dominate the last decade of American horror, and I've heard a lot of people say it's a pile of week old wank. I can definitely understand why people don't like it. The acting is pretty mediocre and just a little... off for the situation. Everyone seems to just readily accept the situation after a "inspiring" speech from the group's leader/ sociopath. It wasn't very well paced and some of the actions were just groan-worthy, like when the conspiracy theorist doctor lady mimicked a guy masturbating. The setting was quite interesting, a series of cubes with 6-doors and a group of numbers that hold the key to which rooms are safe, and which ones are booby trapped. The traps are all nicely varied, ranging from entire grid patterns of razor wire to acid to metal spikes, and the ways the numerous ways they are set off will always leave you in a tense state. I also like how the film never really explained anything, leaving it to the viewer's imagination as to why the individuals are there. Overall it's easy to see why this is a cult movie and why it's not particularly fondly remembered by a massive audience. If you're a fan of the Saw franchise or just interested in viewing something most people aren't aware of, I'd say give this a try, but to remember to adjust your expectation. 6/10 |
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy- Pretty decent suspense film. Wouldn't call it outstanding but i felt it was good, albeit a bit puzzling plot at times.
Girl with the dragon tattoo- Pretty decent film. I'll have to see the swedish version even though people have said they are very similar movies. |

Decent enough but nowhere near as good as the first instalment. |
Wow there are a few pages in this thread.
I've been revisiting some movies lately, and these are the last five: Godzilla vs Mothra Back To The Future Edward Scissorhands The 'Burbs Transformers: The Movie. (80s Animated) |
I just watched Full Metal Jacket, it was great.

got the box set of all four films this is still up there for favorite film of all time :) |
Watched Never Back Down yesterday with some people.
Jesus christ it was so much fun to take the piss out of. I pretty much predicted the entire plot throughout the film, right down to the camera angles. |

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) Wow this sucked. It committed the worst offense a horror movie can commit and that's being boring. Seriously I spent half the damn movie on my iPad playing solitaire and occasionally glancing up when the demon inevitably went booo! I'll admit the pacing was decent and there was one shot in particular where the camera is left sitting on the little girls table shooting this teddy bear, while off to the right this little door slowly closes on its own. Other than that it was just as forgettable as the second one with the only thing going for it is the dissemblance of the horror by telling the audience why the demon is haunting this family. It's a real shame the Paramounts are going to squeeze this franchise for every last penny it's worth because the first one was actually pretty decent. But isn't that always the case, whenever an indie horror movie does well we get a hastily produced cash-in sequel the next year (Blair Witch Project and Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2) and after the Saw franchise proved that people are willing to pay for the same thing 7-times in a row it's no wonder there's a 4th Paranormal Activity movie set to come out this October. It's sad because Paranormal Activity was the movie that essentially killed the Saw franchise after utterly crushing Saw 6 at the box office in 2009, to see it resigned the same fate is just... sad. It doesn't seem like Hollywood is capable of delivering on horror anymore, all it is is just remake '80's horror movies, making grotesque franchises like these two, or Americanizing foreign horror films. |
I haven't posted in a while so this might be two huge posts but here's what I've seen the past week or so.
http://i.imgur.com/JKUwr.jpg I've never really been into black metal but I loved this documentary. The story of Mayhem and other acts that branched off from them was definitely different than the ones I had heard from word of mouth. The interviews were great and the stories were awesome. Well done. 8/10 http://i.imgur.com/QYmNS.jpg Essential film that really revolutionized how films portray historical events. Paul Greengrass must have seen this movie a thousand times because it reminded me of Bloody Sunday. The documentary style filming was great and I liked how the film was shown from both sides with minimal bias. Great film. 8/10 http://i.imgur.com/THt10.jpg I think this was the last film where Kubrick collaborated with a cinematographer. It showed. I liked the film but I could really tell that Kubrick was limited in what he wanted to do with the shots. The ending was great. 8/10 http://i.imgur.com/vr0h8.jpg Very important film to watch. I will say that it was like taking a sleeping pill at times but it was because of the way the film progressed rather than because it was boring. A very slow burn that had hilarious dialogue at times and a great ending. 8/10 http://i.imgur.com/briNj.jpg I wasn't too impressed with this one but there were a few scenes that were interesting. I think this is the first film I've seen Mickey Rourke in before he looked like a monkey. He became a much better actor later on. 5.5/10 http://i.imgur.com/vbKr0.jpg My least favorite Coen brothers film besides Lady Killers. I do however believe this film will grow on me. I need to watch it again. 6/10 http://i.imgur.com/Iw94q.jpg I was very surprised by this one. My girlfriend wanted to see it really bad and I thought it was going to be horrible but I knew it had gotten good reviews. It was very funny. I laughed a lot and I don't usually like comedies. It wasn't as good as say Superbad or Step Brothers but it's definitely the funniest movie this year. 7/10 http://i.imgur.com/SAhqg.jpg This was a huge bag of meh. Some scenes were okay and entertaining but overall it wasn't very good. The ending was interesting though. 5/10 http://i.imgur.com/Zcpgt.jpg One of the better documentaries I've seen recently. Through footage shot by the reporters themselves as it was happening, the whole film tells of what really goes on in military run Burma. It was an eye opening look into a country we really can't look at. 9/10 http://i.imgur.com/H41M4.jpg Average political drama. I expected more out of Watts and Penn after seeing them in 21 Grams. Just very forgettable. 5/10 |
http://i.imgur.com/87nou.jpg Very good film. Clooney is an awesome director. He's become one of my favorite people in hollywood. The film's plot took a while to get going but when it did it provided a very interesting climax and finish. Gosling and Clooney were great and had awesome help from a great supporting cast. How this wasn't nominated for Best Picture over Extremely Loud I'll never know... 8.5/10 http://i.imgur.com/AIGoB.jpg Very good film. It was definitely the slowest of his movies but the story was so well done that it didn't matter. Another great performance by Sam Jackson. 8/10 |

Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) A lot better than I was expecting it to be. The CGI for the wolf was pretty lame, even for it's time but the fight scenes were very well choreographed despite this weird habit the director had of doing the Zack Synder thing where the camera goes really fast, then slows down, then goes fast again. The film had a deep, intricate plot with a lot of intrigue and reminded me of other films set in that era (or around it) like From Hell (2001) and Sleepy Hollow (1999). The acting and script were pretty solid and there was a decent amount of nudity. My only real problem is the film kind of devolves from this tense thriller/ mystery and into this Church conspiracy to the point where it could easily be two films. Overall though it's a solid movie if you're looking for something different. 7/10 |

okay, so I'm not into the 3d gimmick at all, but I have a friend so deeply obsessed with the titanic movie that she wanted me to see it. I had never seen the titanic movie up until this point so GOD DAMN IT I DON'T EVEN CARE WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE TO SAY I CRIED LIKE A LITTLE BITCH AND GODDAMN THE DIRECTOR DID A GOOD ****ING JOB AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH JAMES CAMERON I HATE YOU FOR MAKING THIS MOVIE IT'S LIKE YOU GOT A TEAM OF NEUROSCIENTISTS TO COME UP WITH A PLOT TO EMOTIONALLY MANIPULATE VULNERABLE TEENAGED GIRLS TO INCONSOLABLE HEAPS OF SAD 9.5/10 |
