I don't know man... I tried to put this on fake books or whatever it's called, then these dicks just copied me.

But seriously we need a Bubbles. And also a Randy.

Interesting, comprehensive look at the (very, very brief and simplified) origins of Christianity and the sources of it's texts. To an extent it lacks the scholarly depth I was hoping for, I think it's trying to be contemporary and "fun" to make the documentary accessible/interesting/not boring to the general public, but no matter how they're presented the facts are still there.

It's worth a watch if you're interested in the subject matter. I probably won't watch it again but for a random religious documentary available through Netflix's instant streaming it hold's it's own. I'd also suggest "For the Bible Tells Me So," a fantastic doc on homosexuality and the bible.

Hahaha I don't even need to click it. I know what it is. My friends and I do BAMs and very occasional PEANUT BUTTER JAMs and GREEN EGGS AND HAMs

If I hadn't found this picture of Julian with a beautiful bud, I would have found a good Corey and Trevor. Nevertheless, SOMEONE needs to be Corey and Trevor. Will it be you, bastard?

Being in the film thread, I watched The Big Dirty again this week. Makes me want to pull a Big Dirty. They've got a big ol machine like that at the mall, but I think it's a lot riskier than the movie theater they did it at, because this one is centrally located.

Bon Cop, Bad Cop (2006)

This film was so close to becoming a Canadian classic. It started off so well and just kept building from there, but holy crap did it drop it in the 3rd act. Humour gave out to more slapstick and the big baddie reveal was really underwhelming, you're left thinking "who is this guy and why should I care?" It would really be nice to see a Canadian film that doesn't revolve around hockey as the framing device, but when hockey players are on your 5 dollar bill I suppose it's hard to shake away. I was also right to be a little weary of how many of the jokes I would understand given where I grew up in Canada, as it's very much Ontario/ Quebec humour. Still, seeing Rick Mercer as a kind of hybrid between Don Cherry and Glenn Beck was pretty funny. Overall the film had a lot of good moments to it and it's not often I get to see 100% Canadian films so I give them a modicum of leniency to begin with and Bon Cop, Bad Cop is no different. Good for a watch if you're from that part of the world, but if not I can't see you getting much out of it but an average buddy-cop movie.

There is only one Canadian classic - Grizzly Rage! I only saw a part, a couple of years ago and still can't get it out of my head, it's this ... let's say, memorable.
Anyway, as ya'll probably know the 3d Titanic is coming, if it's anything like this tumblr makes it to be, I might actually go and see it for the lulz ;)

The Howling (1981)

For whatever reason by the late '70's early '80's there was a revival in werewolf movies and this was one of the frontrunners. It's got a pretty decent score and the effects are pretty impressive for the time. This movie definitely had a profound impact on Neil Marshall's 2002 debut film Dog Soldiers, especially with how the werewolves looked. That said though, the film isn't perfect, it has a really strong and profound opening, then just kind of rides this wave of quality, dipping and raising throughout the movie. There's one really memorable sequence with a lady on the phone, but besides that the movie did have some problems.

What about Trailer Park Boys: The Big Dirty? Or is that TPB: The Movie? I could swear there were three TPB movies, right?

Also, had no idea Heavy Metal was Canadian. Well done!

The Big Dirty is often just shortened to Trailer Park Boys: The Movie. As to there being three movies, this is kind of true, but not really. There was a feature film released in 1999 that kind of set the scene that would start off the 1st season, although heavily retconned. It had many of the same actors, but in different parts, most notable was Mike Smith, who played a documentary crew sound man instead of Bubbles.

Delicatessen (1991)

I can't believe i slept on this one for so long. I've known about its existence for a couple of years now but always put it off. Even when I found it on streaming Netflix I put it into my instant que but never got around to watching it until last night. Better late than never I suppose! This is easily one of the best dark comedies I have ever seen, which really says a lot. What makes this work so well is that much of the humour is entirely of your own creation, like it was portrayed as straight-faced but because the misfortune is always at the expense of someone else you can't help but laugh, which is how dark humour is meant to be. Not only that the timing and delivery is absolutely spot-on and there is a wide array of idiosyncratic characters that are all memorable in their own way, like the woman who hears voices inside her head and tries (and fails) to kill herself in overly elaborate ways like that one vintage Mickey Mouse comic.

9.5/10

This movie was GREAT. I got really excited once I found out that this movie has a 73 on metacritic. It didn't let me down in the slightest, in fact it exceeded my expectations. I can't really say too much about it because I don't wanna give anything away, but this movie definitely flips the horror genre on it's head. It was fantastic, it has everything a good horror movie needs. It made me laugh out loud, jump out of my seat, and cringe at the massive amounts of gore. I love this movie! I'll probably go see it again during the week cause it was so awesome.

9/10

If you like horror movies you owe it to yourself to go see this.

saw this on TV:-

how do you present an amoral basically non-sympathetic character in a movie? make it a mystery. It's mostly a case of who shot who and for what.

For its defense, Timothy Olyphant does portray Agent 47 with a poignant touch, coloring his stoic professionalism with shades of humanity but still mostly a time-waster.

bless tims heart, he did everything he could with the cardboard silhouette videogame character. When you have a fucking barcode tattooed on your head i imagine it would be hard to evoke anything convincingly yet he still manages to pull it off some of the time. The girl was nice too.

do you like horror movies? this movie was made for you!.....there are more odes to classic characters from Clive Barker to HP Lovecraft than any film i've ever seen.....all this and an actual original plot!!!!! HOLY SHIT:yikes:

anyways like Phantom Limb said i don't want to ruin anything except to say that this movie rocked my socks off....and i will be seeing it again at least once if not twice before it leaves the theaters

there was one point that i actually had to relax and take a deep breathe to try and control the tears

this may be my film of the year

BastardofYoung 04-15-2012 02:20 PM

Will have to check that out. Someone I know is already hyping it... because she is a huge Heather Lagenkamp fan (who was on the production team).

Frownland 04-15-2012 04:18 PM

Looks like I'm going to have to go see Cabin in the Woods. The trailers made it look bland to me, but it looks like I was wrong.

BastardofYoung 04-15-2012 04:40 PM

Oh man, go to IMDB page on it and look at the FAQ and see all the monsters in the movie.... it is an all-star cast of monsters.

Looks generic, but reading the plot and seeing all the monsters shows it is a lot more.

bob. 04-15-2012 04:50 PM

it is soooo worth seeing

BastardofYoung 04-15-2012 05:10 PM

One of my friends played 3 monsters in the movie as well. I will see it just for his performances, haha.

bob. 04-15-2012 05:47 PM

no shit....which ones>?

BastardofYoung 04-15-2012 06:48 PM

in his own words:

Quote:

I played a zombie in an elevator with a bunch of other zombies,
a mutant who jumps out of a doorway after some hot actress (maybe the one you mentioned??) and an acolyte/ sidekick to this "pinhead" like character who has saw blades coming out of his head. but hey I wouldn't be surprised if they cut everything that I'm in out of the movie! lol it happens:/
his IMDB page. Hasn;t been in many films, but yeah. This one is not listed, probably cause he was considered an extra more less.

Wow. Okay...well, wow.

Great metacritic score. Great imdb score. Great Rotten Tomatoes score. You guys hyped it up. This movie STILL exceeded my expectations. Just wow.

I'm going to have to see it again, not only because of my extreme desire to see it again, but also because the audience sucked. Most of them didn't like it and were making comments through the entire film and one couple actually talked through the entire movie. It was like they were planning a vacation back there. I couldn't believe it. They turned out to be 50 year adults. So shameful. Usually I'm an OCD lunatic with movies. I have to be there at least twenty minutes early so I get a good seat and whenever people are talking like that I make it a point to shut them up any way I can. It helps that I'm a projectionist and can just film my own screenings but when I do go out, I need silence. I felt very outnumbered in this one though so I decided it would be best to keep quiet instead of starting a fight. So yeah, second viewing will be happening.

There isn't a whole lot to say without giving the film away and without repeating what some of you gents have already said but I'll try some brief bullet observations and musings.
  • Pace was perfect. I wasn't bored once. The movie took maybe ten minutes to get going and it didn't let up once it did,
  • It was very funny. Richard Jenkins and (Guy from Billy Madison) were perfectly cast and I actually found myself rooting for them when they were on screen. Also one of the best stoner characters to come out in the last decade.
  • It was still a horror film. The movie may have broken boundaries, but the horror factor was still there and done very well without feeling like a re hashed pile of crap.
  • The last 40 minutes were some of the most fun I've had watching a movie ever. I can't wait to take my friends who haven't seen it yet and watch their reactions. One word. ELEVATORS.

Like I said it far exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to see it again and urge everybody to go see this movie. It's just a fun movie you can't miss.

10/10

Ringu (1998)

I enjoyed it and it has been quite awhile since I saw the 2003 American remake that I forgot a lot of the plot details so it was like seeing it again for the first time. I enjoyed the interaction between the husband and wife, and it was nice to see a relationship dynamic that itself wasn't strained because of each other, but rather through a child. Definitely not really the edge-of-your-seat thriller it was hyped as a decade ago, but still a damn fine ghost story.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...-Crow_ver2.jpg

The Crow (1994)

It's been years since I've seen this, coming on 10 actually now that I think about it. Pretty sure it was sophomore year in high school when I had my long hair, because I went as Eric Draven for Halloween. Still as great as I remember it and easily one of the best visual examples of the "World of Darkness" universe.

http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...0,214,317_.jpg

Pet Cemetery (1989)

Holy crap was this ever boring. The only joy I got out of it was now understanding what South Park was lampooning in the Butters episode in regards to the old man and his speech mannerisms.

Peeping Tom (1960)

Quite a nice subtle thriller that does just enough to push the creep factor without going overboard into full blown ludicrousness. The killer is just a normal guy, albeit with some oddities, none that would make a person think he's a killer. Only thing I didn't really like about the movie was how the ending seemed a little rushed and anticlimactic. Definitely a movie worth checking out if you're into older films, especially if you like Alfred Hitchcock.
