Johnny Mad Dog

Interesting film, really good premise, but there is some disconnect when trying to draw it to the real life conflict. I'm not exactly sure why, but the images of the actual conflict in the credits grip me harder than the film itself. Maybe because the characters (especially the female protagonist) felt hollow, not real. I've always been really into reading about the various conflicts in Liberia (I know more than a few people from that country oddly enough), but this film was missing something. Where's a film critic when you need one?

Sinister 2 ****ing sucked

Like **** ****ity **** I wanted so badly to love it like I did the first one

Chula Vista 08-22-2015 12:39 PM

Actually watched Armageddon all the way through for the first time last night.

Laugh all you want but you're a ****ing liar if you say you didn't get misty at the end.

Liv at her finest BTW.

The mistiness was overshadowed by how much of a turd the rest of the film is. Ben Affleck doing an outback impression on liv's stomach is one of the most vomit inducing dialogue scenes I've ever seen.

Cuthbert 08-22-2015 01:18 PM

Did anybody watch Straight Outta Compton not at a cinema? Been trying to find it online.

Anyway, the last film I watched was this:

http://www.teachwithmovies.org/guide...-DVD-cover.jpg

It's about two orphans in WW2 Japan. Brilliant film.

The movie sucked. All agreed?

But those last 5 minutes worked for me. Even though they were stupid. It worked for me.

Frownland 08-22-2015 01:32 PM

I am a dirty liar, apparently.

I recently saw that movie on TV on a Sunday afternoon after not having seen it since 1998 and, yes, that truly is one of the most vomit-inducing scenes ever.

Armageddon is amazing. Perhaps second only to Independence Day as far as soulless blockbusters so bad they're almost works of art.

YorkeDaddy 08-23-2015 12:57 PM

Independence Day is actually a decent movie imo. Armageddon is a piece of garbage

Chula Vista 08-23-2015 01:02 PM

Troll, troll, troll away,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily...

I don't give a damn.

:yeah:

It's decent until you have Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith flying a f*cking ALIEN SHIP to another ALIEN SHIP THAT'S F*CKING THE SIZE OF HALF THE WORLD. Then they magically know exactly where the f*ck to go to hook up their again, ALIEN SHIP and download a f*cking computer virus to kill the aliens. Nonsense.

Also, that stripper mom and the annoying son from Prince of Bel Air should have been killed in that tunnel along with the damn dog. That explosion obliterated f*cking everything but they survived by hiding in a broom closet.

Also, f*cking first lady survives a goddamn plane crash and lives long enough to JUST say goodbye to her husband.

F*ck that movie. It's fun though. Bill Pullman made a good speech.

Frownland 08-23-2015 01:09 PM

Independence Day got everyone's freedom boners raging to thrust mode when they blew up the whitehouse.

What's with your obsession with boners and media?

You seem uncertain about that.

Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005).

Engaging and informative, and I was delighted to find it narrated by Peter Coyote.

It doesn't parallel Adam Curtis' Century of the Self, but few documentaries do.

MicShazam 08-25-2015 03:11 AM

Last night I watched this German movie from 2012 called Barbara. It is about a female doctor who has been banned from West Germany (the nicer part of the country) to East Germany (the depressing part of the country) to serve at a small provincial hospital. She's under surveillance, gets harassed daily by lackeys of the state as she tends to her job at the hospital and secretly plans her escape to the West, through Denmark. Meanwhile, she meets a male doctor who is an informant, but also seems to care about ethics and his job far more than upholding his duties to the state.

Love, ethical dilemmas, danger, suspense, great acting and much more follows.

I can imagine a lot of people would think it looks boring as hell, but I was really positively surprised by how well made the movie was. I recommend it.

Chula Vista 08-27-2015 05:20 PM

Saw Mad Max: Fury Road

UNBELIEVABLE action scenes. The editing and camera work is phenomenal and it look like not a lot of CGI was used. Amazing that no one got killed during the making of the chase scenes.

Only gripes are the movie bogged down a bit during a desert interlude and that although Hardy's action scenes were phenomenal, his dialogue when things slowed down was extremely stiff.

Is it out on VHS yet?

Everybody knows those are obsolete now. Unlike VHS

I still haven't had the chance to watch the new Mad Max movie, but since everyone is telling me that it is a GOOD two hour car chase, maybe I should.

I thankfully still have a functioning VHS player somewhere, so its no problem. Analog movies look so good with shimmering images and ridiculous oversaturation!

It's not perfect, but very well done, very entertaining and hilariously crazy.

Just watched Blue Is The Warmest Color last night, dammit that gave me feels. In all seriousness I thought it was a great movie, and the characters were done suprisingly well; I haven't cried during a movie in a long time.

I'm really thrown off by the three hour running time, I shouldn't be, but I am.

Cuthbert 08-29-2015 02:09 AM

Watched Straight Outta Compton. Really good, Eazy/Cube both excellent. Well worth the wait. I didn't expect it to go so far into the story w/ Dre/Suge but glad it did and featured The Chronic and that era.

They should do a Death Row sequel.

The run time actually is what got me so invested into the characters.

This has to be one of the sickest, most vile films I've ever watched. But the way it portrays the destruction of the soul is unrivaled. And the scene on the poster is pretty hard to watch, just like the rest of this film.

Exo 08-29-2015 06:26 PM

I love when he shoots his radio cause the opposing team scored a touchdown.

In the same category as Irreversable.

I love the part where he jerks off while the chick is suggesting filatio while the other girl just shows her ass

innerspaceboy 08-31-2015 03:35 PM

Tonight my fiance is introducing me to The Odd Couple (1968). It will be my first time seeing Lemmon and Matthou together. The Fortune Cookie (1966) was actually their first film two years earlier, but The Odd Couple seems to be the cultural milestone of their careers.

Really looking forward to it.

Exo 08-31-2015 03:48 PM

It's one of my favorites. The poker scene is the best.

Mr. Charlie 09-01-2015 05:48 PM

Samsara

A film about Buddhism and the human condition. Beautifully shot and very moving. Well worth watching if you fancy something a little different.

One of my favorite films ever. It's just as haunting the tenth time you watch it as the first.

Chula Vista 09-01-2015 07:51 PM

Re-watched Hitman just to kill 90 minutes. Big fan of Olyphant so that makes it always fun. Plus there's is some great action scenes.

Frownland 09-01-2015 08:01 PM

Samsara is incredibly beautiful. I like it even more than Koyaanisqatsi.
