He's alright and entertaining at best. Don't think I'll ever want to rewatch anything by him tbh. |

Never really liked his trademark stylistic traits: Some movie references, "cool" conversations, dudes with attitude, non-linear storytelling and a lot of ultra violence sprinkled on top (plenty). Not that any of those things are bad on their own, but it gets a bit much and a bit old when he always turns everything up to 11. I honestly don't really 100% understand why every film geek loves Tarantino so much. |
His dialogue is usually what really impresses me. Not many write it better.
|
Nah, it's the Vanilla Ice of dialogues. Wants to be cool so desperately and the desperation is really showing.

Tarantino basically indirectly gave us stuff like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Lucky Number Slevin and Snatch. I don't think I'd miss them if they hadn't happened.
|
Guy Ritchie is fun. Well, a few of his films are.
Lucky Number Slevin is a retarded piece of **** for retarded retards. |

They wouldn't of existed for you to miss them/not miss them in the first place. |
So you're the 100% literal type, eh?
|
People who constantly bash Tarantino are just pretentious wankers that need shooting immediately.
The kind of people who watch Seven Seal, Tokyo Story and Metropolis in one sitting and proceed to think they're the piniccle of taste in film. The kind of people that will wait till 'Ambiancé' comes out and then go around lying to everyone that they saw the entire thing and thought it was 'inspired' just so they can feel as though they have more credibility than everyone else because they made everyone think they watched an 'avant grade' black and white 30day long load of filler fuelled trash. |

Don't divide movies up in pretentious/not pretentious. There's a lot of really good drama films and a lot of really good genre films. Doesn't have to be either/or. A friend of mine who is mostly a gamer and not really that into movies has a version of that opinion. He'll talk about movies as if there's only the sort he knows (Star Wars, X-Men, Terminator, Ghostbusters) and then pretentious indie art house movies with slow moving shots and violin music, accompanied by some read-aloud French poetry or whatever. He basically doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. He doesn't really care enough about movies, so I just give it a pass and stop arguing with him. |

BS is cool, but again, it just tries too hard to be Tarantino. |

I also think Tarantino is at times pretty entertaining. I just feel the need to jump in when people think his movies are artful masterpieces and he is the best director ever and stuff. |
I can agree that there are many superior directors and writers to Tarantino. Most people claiming to have found the perfect movie / director are delusional.
He just makes good stuff. Consistently good, entertaining work. For decades. That is RARE. |
He's basically like Joss Whedon. Their respective niches are massively entertaining and nobody does it quite like them, but if I heard they were doing a movie or TV show that was a departure from their styles I'd be highly dubious. They're golf clubs or kitchen knives that are great for their roles but you're not necessarily going to use them for anything else.
But **** it they fillet a fish like nothing else. |

It was pretty good, actually. |
Since it had Nathan Fillion in it I assumed it was a Whedon-ized version of Shakespeare that would be entertaining for reasons other than being good Shakespeare. I did want to see it though.

I'm no expert, but I think it's actually good Shakespeare. It's also a really funny, less heavy story than a lot of his plays, so it's not that hard to appreciate. I wonder if Whedon will ever do anything like that again. |
Even if he has his schtick he at least does spread it over a wide net. You should read the comic run he did on X-Men. It's legit fantastic and you don't even have to make allowances for him not being a dedicated comic writer. It's also kind of like him coming full circle since his whole original inspiration for Buffy was Shadowcat, who made her return to the team during his tenure. Dude was born to write X-Men comics.

I last watched Conspiracy theory (1997) on VHS :)

The Titan. Which was actually pretty good.

The bashing of Tarantino is a rejection of the blind fanboyism that surrounds him imo. He's a great director but far from the be-all-end-all of auters. I think he's criminally underrated when it comes to camerawork, I only ever see people mention his dialogue (which to be fair is great as well). |

The Hateful Eight (the screenplay cover is cooler so I went with that) Hadn't seen this one because I was so disappointed by Django, but had time for it today. 1. Ennio Morricone>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2. Good round characters, chemistry, and acting all around. 3. Really enjoyed the fixed setting. 4. Tarantino flexes his film nerd muscles. Lots of foreshadowing in the directionality and placement, well-planned framing, and loads of film references all over the place. 5. Overall a fun watch. 6. I dug a lot of the dark/ironic humour. 7. A bit drawn out. 8. Exceeded my expectations. I give it a 4/5 P.S. Samuel L. Jackson would be the best hype man. |
Good morning Frown how are ya buddy? :)
I last saw ONE FLEW OVER THE COOCOOS NEST (1975) on VHS :) |
The Reader
https://content.gucca.dk/covers/big/...ader_29331.jpg Really good. My brother insists the book is much better, but I still liked the movie a lot. Just a good drama. Not anything super original, although the story did go in a direction I didn't see coming at all, since I didn't even read a synopsis before watching it. Det Erotiske Menneske https://www.laserdisken.dk/billeder/...0364021266.jpg A pretentious snorefest. Much, much less insightful that it imagines itself to be. 300 https://www.imusic.dk/gfx/item/image...06-300-dvd.jpg Dumb macho nonsense. It didn't even have the decency to show much good action. The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser https://resizing.flixster.com/GXK546...A7MTQ1NDsxOTM4 The second Herzog movie I've watched inside the last few months and neither of the two were any good. Cobra Verde was the other one. At least Kaspar Hauser felt a bit more like the script had some kind of direction to it. My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done http://i.idefix.com/cache/600x600-0/...00562515-1.jpg Watched this one a few days later to see if I'm just done with Herzog. Thankfully not so! I'm not sure I understood it 100% but it was still really good. Herzog is forgiven! Michael Shannon knocked it out of the park in this movie. EDIT: I just realized I've chosen a weird Turkish cover or something. The title of the movie is "My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done". |
