Watched a Netflix movie called Super Dark Times last night because I couldn't sleep. Solid movie. Very relateable story about basically the sexual frustrations and angst we've all faced as teens reaching the uncertainty of adulthood. Some of the mistakes we make at that age, hard lessons we learn, obstacles we face. We've all been in those kids' shoes.

+1 that Incredibles 2 was awesome. I really enjoy the first one but don’t quite get the incredible praise I see for it, like some name it their favorite Pixar movies which is nutty to me

The 2nd one is definitely funnier and features some of the coolest superhero fight scenes you’ll ever see. I liked the vastly different direction they went in for the villain but after their identity was revealed that villain fell kinda flat. The final act underwhelmed a bit and poor Dash was the only character that got no arc whatsoever but overall I adored the movie

Finally saw JOHN WICK. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!

Was gonna try and catch Deadpool 2 today but that fell through. Still haven't fucking seen it yet.

Frownland 06-26-2018 01:45 PM

They break the fourth wall. Now you don't have to see it.

In other words just watch the first one and you've already seen the second one?

Dude111 06-26-2018 02:43 PM

If we went by this logic, nobody would watch sequels.

Really liked it. Thought it was better overall than The Avengers movies. 10/10

Godawful rip-off of Krampus (2015). Absolute dogshit. 10/10

YorkeDaddy 06-26-2018 04:58 PM

Am i the alone in that there’s only like 7 or 8 movies ever I’d give a 10/10 and its a huge deal to me to give one out?

Frownland 06-26-2018 04:59 PM

You just need to watch better movies.

Oriphiel 06-26-2018 05:24 PM

You do you. I know plenty of people like that. I just fucking love movies so much that I can't help but give either a 10/10 'watch this movie' approval, or a 1/10 'lol wut'?

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....YL._SY445_.jpg

1/10, lol wut?

If you liked the first one it's worth seeing. It's got some jokes that push boundaries I didn't think Disney would let them push and I think there is even a baby dick in it. Well, he definitely exposes his baby dick to underage girls in it. So you can probably relate.

I wouldn't give 10's away for nothing, but I've seen a lot of movies that I'd consider as close to great as you can expect a movie to get.

Hmm... I'm trying to come up with a few examples.

These are (probably) 10/10 in my eyes:

Alien
American Beauty
American Psycho
Barney's Version
Ben-Hur
Blade Runner (any of the DC versions)
Camp X-Ray
Clouds of Sils Maria
Dallas Buyer's Club
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Eyes Wide Shut
The Fly
the Grand Budapest Hotel
Deconstructing Harry
Kriger (aka Kriegerin/aka Combat Girls)
Lost in Translation
Mary and Max
Nightcrawler
No Country For Old Men
the Shining
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Paprika
Spartacus
The Pianist
La grande bellezza (aka The Great Beauty)
the Ten Commandments
the Thing
Ruang rak noi nid mahasan (aka Last Life in the Universe)

There might be more.

The Thing
Scream (my all-time favorite film)
The Dark Knight
Spirited Away
Requiem for a Dream
Fight Club

Bout it for me. I can think of a ton of 9.5s and there may be one or two 10s im forgetting but not very many more thats for sure

I will admit I have not seen very many foreign films

Edit: Also I need at least a second viewing but Hereditary definitely competes for a 9.5 or 10 from me

Oriphiel 06-27-2018 09:14 AM

Just rewatched Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, the one with all the homoerotic overtones that's secretly about a guy realizing he's gay, and finally noticed that the sexually confused main character has a Kate Bush poster on his door.

Recently watched Let Me In. It's the American remake of Let The Right One In. It's not a bad film, but the whole time I was watching it I was just wishing I was watching the original which is one of my all time favorite movies. It tries really hard but just doesn't succeed in catching that same atmosphere and that finally scene in the pool is ruined with out the radio playing Flash In The Night before it gets kicked in. (Don't know why, but that song really plays into the atmosphere of that scene)

Also watched Kaleidoscope. Strange little indie film about a dude who starts losing his mind when his mom comes to visit. The ending had a twist I didn't see coming. It's a really eerie and strange film. Kind of builds up the psychological torment the main character is going through, who I'm fairly sure is schizophrenic.

Agree on all fronts. The original is incredible, the American remake is unsurprisingly mediocre

Suspiria is an interesting film for me. I haven't watched it in a pretty long time and I think I should rewatch it now that I'm a little more analytical in how I assess my horror films. I remember thinking it was beautifully shot and choreographed but painfully boring in terms of plot progression. Nowadays a good slowburn, creepy atmosphere horror is some of my favorite **** to watch so I think I would appreciate it more.

I wonder if the movie would have been as bad if I never saw the original though.

I like Suspiria because of it's beautiful shots. I've only seen two movies by Dario Argento but both of them were very beautifully shot. Suspiria was much better even though it has so many slow points while the other one, Tenebrae, had some really really stiff acting.

The Batlord 06-28-2018 12:01 PM

I haven't seen the original and really liked the remake. It was horrifyingly sweet.

Frownland 06-28-2018 12:08 PM

It's the same film almost shot for shot. Both are great.

Worse acting, less heart, reeked of cash grab

Also the fact they remade it so quickly for no reason except to appease American idiots that refuse to read subtitles meant I was inherently annoyed going into it from the start

Frownland 06-28-2018 12:12 PM

Both films had passable performances tbh, that's not where the magic comes from.

I'm not really into horror movies, but last year, I saw Suspiria in a movie theater with my brother. Pretty wacky movie, but spectacular to look at.

I agree. No one's knocking Let The Right One In, but Matt Reeves did an incredible job with the remake, far from mediocre. I have to admit it holds 88% on RT too. So you guys are objectively wrong.

Agree with these 3. Watch "The Nowhere Man" and "The Secret in Their Eyes". Both foreign and both 10s.

Agree with these 3 too. TLADILA has the best ****ing car scene ever. Friedkin topped his "The French Connection", which is pretty ****ing amazing.

The original is so much better than the remake.

FAIL. The remake left out one of the most important scenes of the entire story. Have you read the novel?
