As for The Company of Wolves- it's an interesting film that takes an age to get going but the subtext is brilliant and superbly realised. It makes you feel guilty being male a little I think. Female teenagers should love it.
ah, that's tragic, i just looked it up. Not a nice way to go.

Tomorrow is a 'getting sh*t done' day for me so I'll dedicate the evening to watching a few of these films; Redbelt was very good btw Marijan, got that from your best of 2008 list. I wonder if there really is a redbelt...

I haven't seen Stand and Deliver since it was pretty new but I remember liking it at the time. Definitely one of the better movies in the "inspiring teacher" genre.

Yeah, who woulda thunk it that John Landis and Spielberg would do the worst segments and Joe Dante and George Miller (of Mad Max fame) would do the best?

Joe Dante is cool, a very underrated director.

hahaha it really is a genre of it's own... I was trying to think of the first 'teacher-reforms-ghetto-youths' film and at first I thought the Gangsta's Paradise one with Michelle Pfeiffer but then remembered this

meh.. remember it being really good but the trailer is not encouraging. Has comedy value though. Young Sidney Poitier's in it too. THE TEENAGERS ARE COMING!!

Stand By Me with Morgan Freeman is pretty cool too.

Dangerous Minds? Stand and Deliver is actually quite a bit older than that movie.

Yeah that one's not too bad. I remember I had a really embarrassing experience when I went to see it in the theater though. Right near the beginning of the movie I picked up my gigantic cup of Coke by the top to take a sip and the lid came off, dumping the whole thing in my lap. Not only did that suck, but the sound of all that liquid and ice cascading onto the floor was loud enough that I swear everyone in the theater simultaneously turned their heads toward me and groaned. And on top of that it was the winter time so I had my coat and hat sitting in my lap and they were now drenched with Coke.

there is a moral to this story- Cinema is for watching and not drinking/eating lol. I never eat or drink at the cinema and it annoys the absolute crap out of me if people are scrunching away at bags of sweets etc. If I take my kids then it's no problem but when i went to see Pan's Labyrinth a while back I actually got up and told some idiot to be quiet. I got a small round of applause from the others lol

LOL. Going to the movies and not having popcorn is like going to a bar and not having a drink for me.
