Yeah, my stats started going downhill a bit with the Karkand pack, because I'm not familiar with the maps anymore. Got used to them and I'm doing quite a bit better now, though.

This pack = nostalgiagasm for me.

RVCA 12-14-2011 01:38 AM

I've resorted to busting out the Wii. Been playing a lot of Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros Brawl with myself. It's a lonely winter break at home without consoles or PCs... or friends

Sparky 12-14-2011 10:41 PM

skyword sword
its pretty awesome

LoathsomePete 12-15-2011 11:17 AM

I just started a new game of Mass Effect. I'm going full renegade this time in both this and ME2 and we'll see how this affects Mass Effect 3.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 12-15-2011 11:30 AM

Downloaded the iso for 'Sacrifice' sounds like a very interesting hidden gem of a game. Report back when I get it to work:

Holding out on it til I'm done with exams. It will be taking over my life in about a week.

I know eric generic has played it though.

debaserr 12-15-2011 07:55 PM

Yep, it's pretty awesome. I've played about 2/3 of the main story so far.

From what I've played, it's a great game.

Also, what I've played a lot since it was re-released yesterday:

http://cdn.wpcentral.com/sites/wpcen...icCDTeaser.jpg

It missed it as a kid, because I never had the means to play it.
But now, I can finally enjoy it!

I did that a while ago, not full renegade but I finished ME and ME2 again with the sole purpose of having a great character when MW3 hits (collectors edition already preordered, btw). And about a week after i finished ME2, my brand new ssd drive died along with all the savegame files ....
I'm playing Skyrim again, this time as a mage. Also I plan to play the **** out of the "Back to Karakand" BF3 expansion pack this weekend, i only played 2 games on the new maps..

Playing Fallout 3 as always. I bought the GoTY Edition for £15 a while back, which includes all DLC! By far one of the best games I've ever played. Nuka Cola anyone?

It is awesome, I got it the GOTY edition for £5 earlier this year haha.

Can I make mine a Quantum and order a brahmin steak to accompany it?

LoathsomePete 12-16-2011 09:08 AM

Well my 3rd Xbox 360 died last night and because I bought it used it only has a 1-year warranty which expired a few weeks ago (earlier in the week I was noting how awesome it was that this console had lasted over a year). So I think I'm going to trade in all my 360 games and see what old PS2 and Gamecube games I can get, because I'm not buying another one. If I come into some money or I see someone selling a PS3 cheap I might pick up one of those again (my last one got stolen), but I think I'm done with current generation gaming.

edit:

http://amanita-design.net/img/games/machinarium-003.jpg

Just bought Machinarium for my iPad and it is quite possibly one of the most beautiful looking games I have ever played.

Mykonos 12-16-2011 12:54 PM

Okay, I need a bit of help from someone who is more knowledgeable in emulators than I am. I own a copy of Pokemon Gold (somewhere) but even if I knew where it was, my DS couldn't play it anyway. Would downloading a Rom of the game be illegal? I've heard from someone that it's just a perfectly legal way of getting handheld games onto your PC for playing, but I'm not fully confident in that source.

RVCA 12-16-2011 12:57 PM

No, I'm fairly sure the usage of ROMs is illegal no matter which way you slice it. Ask Noise, he's the emulator expert.

Guybrush 12-16-2011 12:59 PM

I see no reason why downloading roms should be legal. Games are copyrighted and it generally takes like 50-70 years for copyrights to expire.

Mykonos 12-16-2011 01:29 PM

So I was lied to? I thought as much. As you said, they don't really seem like something that would be even remotely legal. I might download it anyway as I don't think there's any morals in question with it seeing as I would (if I made a real effort) be able to play Gold on my old GBA with no money trading hands anyway, but I'll stop talking about illegal stuff now.

yeah apparently there like 16 dungeons or something crazy like that. I hear they scrapped most of the villages and non-puzzle elements, which is kinda sad :(

The fighting is really fun, i actually don't mind going back to a previous area and seeing the same enemies because its so satisfying to smack the **** out of them with my sword.

I wish items would lock on though-the slingshot or whatever-so i wouldn't have to be in first person meticululosy aiming at bats to kill them, previously i could just lock on and strafe while shooting.

debaserr 12-16-2011 04:45 PM

I usually kill bats with my sword.

It's only legal to download the ROM if you already own the cartridge and even still that's a grey area. How is it that your DS couldn't play it? Isn't there a slot for old games on the bottom of the machine? The super old square carts would stick out a little but should still work same as the rectangular GBA carts.

As for myself I'm SUPER hooked on Team Fortress 2, I got the free version earlier this summer and picked up The Orange Box a while back so that I wouldn't have to deal with the limited backpack inventory. I much prefer this style of MP game over the glut of 'realistic' military shooters you can't escape from. Does anyone else play this or other Steam games?

I'm also hooked on Squadron TD. It's a Starcraft2 mod that pits two teams of 4 in a rather unique tower defense / economy type game. It's the top TD on BNet so there are always players available too.

On the retro side of the fence there was a major D&D Collector's pack recently released that included ALL Baldur's Gate games and expansions, same for Icewind Dale, and Planescape:Torment, and The Temple of Elemental Evil. I'm currently really enjoying ToEE being that it was the only one in the pack that I'd never had a chance to play back in the day, and considering that amount of gaming included in the pack... at $20 it's a super steal for anyone who enjoys classic fantasy RPG gaming.

And Minecraft (if only it didn't take my friend a week to reboot his server after it crashes :()

I looooove TF2. What's your favorite class?

Mrd00d 12-16-2011 08:06 PM

I wish I had a computer that could run Steam stuff. I played TF2 at my buddies house for 12 hours straight once. I still suck. I loved/was better at TF1 for some reason. 2Fort heh heh...

I go Spy or Scout. I love the Scout speed. I'm an okay medic and engineer, but I'm not a hot sniper or soldier. Heavy is an interesting class. In some situations it's too easy and some you're better off switching classes.

I was under the impression that, like with songs/albums, if you own it on one medium (you bought the game), you can feel free to download the rom. It's a 'backup'. It's kind of a grey area. I truly don't believe you'd be at risk for downloading Visual Boy Advance and a rom or two. :D

I've been playing Advance Wars on my Visual Boy Advance. Going through the campaign for the third time so I can finish unlocking all the characters for other modes... Fun game, can't wait to try Advance Wars 2.

I just beat Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap ... much more fun than I had anticipated a Game Boy Zelda game could be.

Yes. Some weird things are stopping me from playing it right now, but in about a week I'll have a better computer that it'll hopefully work on. I'll be happy to play it then.

awesome we'll have to figure out how to get an MB clan or something going hahaha top class for me is by far and away PYRO! There's just something really satisfying with setting the entire other team on fire :D

I'm also a pretty solid medic - already got the million heals achievement after only starting in August. Then it's Heavy / Engineer / Soldier / Sniper in that order based on what the team needs or who the effective team players are in the match. I've never played Demo / Spy / Scout, I don't think there's even a full minute logged for all 3 of those classes combined in my profile haha (compared to like 50 hours as PYRO!!!)

What's everyones name on steam? I'd love to play some TF2 with you guys sometime. I was extremely addicted to that game for a while, but i haven't played it for a good 3-4 months now and I think it's time i turned that around.

My name is: The League of Robots

Also, i just decided to buy a wii so I can play skyward sword.

Truth be told, Pyro is my favorite class as well. The competitive scene scoffs at him because he's not very good... but **** them, playing Pyro is fun as hell. Once you unlock the degreaser and the axtinguisher, it's game over.

You should definitely try out the scout! I think he's got the highest learning curve even though you're just popping people with your shotgun, because you have to learn how to navigate each map so that you're not approaching targets head-on (because you lose every time that way). The most effective scouts also have to be really twitchy, random and jumping all over the place, which is disconcerting when you're first starting out.

Backburner / Shotgun / Homewrecker for me please ;)

I've had 'competitive' types slag me for choosing Pyro and look at my score as justification. They seem to ignore the strategic value of a lunatic who's willing to do suicide runs into the other team to throw them off balance and make it impossible for them to mount an organized comeback. Though I'm bothered by the fact that I don't have the million points of fire damage achievement yet (nor does it track progress in my Steam profile).

Reason I don't play Scout is that there are ALWAYS a bunch of scouts already, and I freaking HATE getting backstabbed by some cocky spy shmuck hahaha.

I also just added you to my Steam list as well, my account is under the name f*ckdrm if you're not smart enough to figure out what letter to replace that asterisk with, then you're not worthy of being on my list haha (display name is Panbient with the same bloated zombie panda avatar).

Well, I think the laws have changed a bit. But, if memory serves, owning a rom is completely legal if you own a copy of the game. Plus, emulators are 100% legal.

LoathsomePete - I boughty my sister Machinarium a while back, it was like 8$ in a cool metal can, and she loved it. Some of the puzzles though ... oy vey ;) And the minigame that lets you see the hints is atrocious.

As for what I'm playing: BF3 Back to Karakand, it seems I'm getting some of my old skill back, which is good. I'm also during the last Vice case in L.A. Noire, all that's left is the arson division. Great game btw.

Cool I just added you. NICE! You have Shogun2 :thumb:

I tried playing a couple of rounds of TF2 with RVCA the other night but I'm on the East Coast and he was in a West Coast server so I had double my 'normal' ping.

As for the comment about Sacrifice being a hidden gem. I can see it having that reputation now, but it got a lot of hype back in the day when it came out. Problem was virtually no one had the hardware necessary to run it smoothly at the time :( I REALLY wanted to play past the first few areas...

dude, they are literally my two favorite games. I'm best with Pyro too, but Demoman and Scout are my two backups as well, just anyone who could f*ck sh*t up.

The one class I'm not really into at all is the Heavy. I mean, i know he's the strongest and all, but I just can't get over how slow he is. I usually like to get right into the battle and start cracking skulls, and I feel so limited with his movement. :/

here's my Steam profile if anyone wants to add me as well :)

I wouldn't necessarily say you shouldn't go head on with other classes as a Scout. Not to brag, but as a Scout i've taken out full on Heavys and other classes as well. I'd say it depends on your Loadout and how much skill you have with the class.

You're right about being very twitchy and all over the place, though. It serves as a great distraction for the opposing side and if you're able to get a few shots off, you could take out crucial members of the team.
