The one class I'm not really into at all is the Heavy. I mean, i know he's the strongest and all, but I just can't get over how slow he is. I usually like to get right into the battle and start cracking skulls, and I feel so limited with his movement. :/

Added. That's a fair complaint on the Heavy, I only like using him when I'm on the attacking side of a Payload map generally speaking. Standing in front of the cart with the chain gun blasting and getting infinite ammo while babbling gibberish with a Russian accent never gets old. :D

I just beat Golden Sun for Game Boy Advance, ready to load up Golden Sun 2 The Lost Age tomorrow. Yayuh. Took like 2 weeks to go through this first one. Very fun for a game boy rpg...

debaserr 12-22-2011 12:14 AM

Speaking of handheld RPGs, Bowser's Inside Story is pretty awesome. It's just like thousand year door but its all 2D and the combat is better.

3DS is getting a Mario RPG. I really don't want to buy a 3DS until they have a 2nd gen with another joystick. I'm dying to play Super Mario Land 3D too...

yea, i know what you mean, but at the same time it kinda feels cheap to me, you know? so yeah, i don't use him unless i really HAVE to.

on the other hand, if the game is hectic and there's a Heavy alone, i'll go for Medic. I will say too that since most players don't expect them to be on offense, it's very satisfying to take out other classes with just the Syringe Gun and the Amputator :D

What's wrong with that?

Agreed. Though at the same time having the non-stop super gun in front of the cart also makes it REALLY easy for the other team to know exactly where the Heavy is coming from. All the other side needs is one good Spy.

To be honest though, I find good Medics rare. In my experience I'm usually cursing my screen and wondering why the Medic is running around shooting while 3 teammates are dying around him. Or, the other side of that awesome, when they only, ONLY, ever heal the Heavy.

Kind of like the awesome logic some Engineers apply to never ever building a dispenser then whining about how no one is helping them defend their sentry gun through their level 1 teleporter that never gets upgraded... :usehead:

Yes.

I started up Eternal Sonata again, because I've actually been in the mood for a JRPG (first time in a couple years, too). Playing a bit of DJ Hero 2 on the side.

I'm too cheap to buy yearly revisions.

I'm holding out for CS:GO

Freebase Dali 12-23-2011 01:46 AM

I think maybe I just have too much self-respect to buy yearly revisions.
I mean.. the COD franchise... you can use that as an example of how it works. Basically, people are paying full game price for what really amounts to an expansion pack.
I'm not saying all developers do that, but when the only new thing in your next year's game is modes, maps and weapons... that should be a big red flag.

Oddly, people don't really care and buy it anyway. Not that they shouldn't, but I mean.. they're solidifying the trend with their money. It just tells developers that all they have to do is add some stuff next year and come out banking. Meanwhile, innovation is disregarded because it would cost money that, to the developers, doesn't need to be spent when people are going to buy the next game anyway.

Personally, I'm completely content to wait several years for an actual significant step up from my previous version. That's really the only way I can justify paying the price of the game.
Maybe it's just me, though.

Mykonos 12-23-2011 04:23 AM

The main reason I won't buy CoD is because of Activision. I lost interest in the games before I truly realised just how rotten to the core that cancer amongst the gaming industry was, but I eventually decided that if I was going to do my part to stop the industry collapsing into the monopoly that they're pushing to achieve, I'd have to stop giving them my money. Which really makes me hope that they never swallow up Bethesda or Bioware.

I used to be blinded by the hype, but have definitely revised my stance and agree with you on COD.

No worries though, knowing Activision they'll run it into the ground just like every series they've bled to death (Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk). And yes, Activision is as evil as a gaming company is capable of being.

So I finally got a computer capable of running Skyrim on pretty damn high settings. And it was on sale today. Guess what I did?

The whole game is beautiful. Nearly everything's been improved, the world itself is absolutely stunning (I've barely explored an inch of it yet) and Dragon Shouts are the coolest thing ever. When I get back to school the first thing I'm doing is testing to see if I can knock people off the balconies with a well placed FUS RO DAH.

debaserr 12-25-2011 08:21 PM

I just upgraded today too. Nerd time:

i5 2500K (going to OC soon... idle temp was 22c with aftermarket cooler)
8gb G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 9-9-9-24 (will oc for freq or timings)
ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 (Ivy compatible + USB3)
Radeon 5770

Scarlett O'Hara 12-25-2011 08:56 PM

I'm playing Arcanium and Baulders Gate sooo old school!

Being on PC, you know you need to start implementing some mods, correct?
If you want some recommendations, let me know.
If you're wondering why you need them, let me know. Even now, prior to the creation kit release, there are some AWESOME mods that won't cost you a penny and will heighten your Skyrim experience.

debaserr 12-26-2011 12:49 AM

Hook us up with some mod nfo mang.

Mykonos 12-26-2011 05:36 AM

I'd love to take in some mod info now, although I might win the game with my completely kick-ass Nord-noblewoman-from-Bruma-turned-Nightblade-Archer after I got past my noob phase with my generic-Redguard-warrior-even-though-Redguards-are-way-cooler-in-Skyrim-than-they've-ever-been. I already know about the ones that make crabs swear and change the Unrelenting Force shout to STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM, and I've decided not to get both of them.

I would say this in the Skyrim thread, but I'm terrified of spoilers.

Quite nice, altough I should admit I'd never have picked an asrock.
Hope it works fine though :D

So, I found out I got a few steam gifts!

Left 4 Dead 2 (never played either of them)
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 2

Who wants to play some Half-Life, I already have it.

My memory of the LFD series is positive. Granted, I've only played it drunk at a friend's place, but the connotation now - whilst drunk - is positive.

Mykonos 12-27-2011 03:46 AM

I'll play Left 4 Dead 2 with you, for sure. I was hoping some people would get it during Christmas so I wouldn't be the only one playing it after the craze for it died down.

Howard the Duck 12-27-2011 08:38 AM

just bought for the PS2:-

Naval Ops : Commander - sequel to the ship simulator/strategy game Warship Gunner
Jak X : Combat Racing
Xenosaga II

I ****ing love Left 4 Dead. L4D2 is in my top ten games, ever. The problem these days however is that it's very difficult to play properly, and by properly I mean in one of two ways:

1) The campaigns on Expert Realism mode with 3 other friends/competent players (who have mics). This is one of the most challenging things I've ever faced in videogaming, while at the same time being one of the most fun and intense.

2) In versus, with two competent teams who stick it out to the end. Nothing is more exhilarating than going neck-and-neck for 45 minutes straight, and then coming down to the finale and winning by 30 points. It's really too bad that L4D2's multiplayer these days is full of people who quit early, rage, and grief.

Hard Rain is the best campaign in my opinion, closely followed by No Mercy.

Burning Down 12-27-2011 09:36 PM

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Got it for Christmas, and it's pretty good so far!

Black Francis 12-28-2011 02:55 AM

Skyrim!!
Ps3 baby, all the way..

also re-playing FF7

Awesome. Did you set yourself up for the epic Baldur's Gate saga? (where you play from the start of the original through to the end of the sequel and all the expansions). You need to download a few mods and patches and jump through a few hoops after that but it's worth it. Baldur's Gate 2 essential mods - Baldur's Gate - Forum - - GOG.com

Even if you don't go that route I HIGHLY recommend the widescreen patch that's also featured as a link in that mod thread, for you and anyone playing BG or any of the other games made in that engine (Icewind Dale series / Planescape Torment etc.)

Chanchibar 12-28-2011 03:46 PM

Starcraft 2
League of Legends
Skyrim
Street Fighter IV

I'm really liking it so far. It's pretty different from other elder scroll games in that there are no markers to tell you where to go. You have to respond to the dialogue and follow directions. So far I'm digging the story and it's a lot more engaging than having to close a dozen oblivion gates.

Above 12-31-2011 09:58 AM

Batman: Arkham City.

I've recently finished Arkham Asylum (fantastic game) and started City; the sequel. Eh, it's decent and a lot more polished for sure, but the setting doesn't grab me at all and they seemed to have upped the sex appeal 100% as a cheap way of attracting customers. Seriously, if I had a penny for every time I heard someone say they wanted to "ride the Harley" in that game, I would be one rich motherfucker. It just has all the signs of a sequel cashing in on the success of its predecessor and that disappoints me.

debaserr 01-02-2012 03:32 AM

Is anyone familiar with GTA4 mods?

The only one I tried was the improved graphics one but my video card was no match for it so I reverted to default.

Howard the Duck 01-02-2012 05:29 AM

had a pretty vivid dream regarding the PS3 and 360

so much so I had to get my PS2 fixed

will give you the lowdown on the three games I bought

Uncharted 3, but it corrupted so I had to send it back to Amazon.
