Too bad SC5 is (from most accounts) a steaming pile of crap. Hell I still have my Dreamcast hooked up specifically for Soul Calibur (and Ikaruga).

Howard the Duck 02-06-2012 06:12 AM

I haven't actually played SC on the Dreamcast

though i've heard it's better than the PSOne version

Soulcalibur V is actually REALLY good.

Most people have been complaining about Story Mode. To be hoenst, though, I don't pick up a Soulcalibur game and expect an amazing story.

The online functionality of this one is the best of the whole series (I mean...It's REALLY good). Quick Battle is interesting, even if the harder difficulties are slightly aggravating.

Character Creation mode is also the best it's ever been.

That's cool, and I agree on story mode, though I did enjoy the whole 'campaign' for unlockables in the older titles. What about local team battle? That was my favourite thing with the old ones - which for whatever reason was removed in part 4. Just sitting in front of the tv with friends and selecting 8 random characters each and not having to go back to the menu for 20 minutes was fantastic.

for $4 i got to be a Diliphosaurus and kill a man by throwing a goat at him. Balance issues aside, a silly little romp.

Pretty good stuff. The face animation is still mind-boggling to me in its brilliance.

A lot of people don't like it because its very linear, but I really enjoyed the investigations etc also I'm a film noir fan so I really liked the game.

midnight rain 02-10-2012 05:20 PM

Is it worth $60 bucks? I've been thinking about getting it after finishing Skyrim, RDR, and Mass Effect... so I expect about mid 2013 or so ;)

debaserr 02-10-2012 05:26 PM

Probably not, but you can buy it used on amazon for $15-20.

I'd say that I'd have not been upset if I'd paid $60 when it first came out. Used at Gamestop was $20, so definitely got my money's worth there!

The investigations are actually pretty neat.

LoathsomePete 02-10-2012 08:39 PM

The game starts off great, but the game long overstays its welcome by the time you near the end.

Guybrush 02-11-2012 01:53 AM

I just bought it for xbox, but haven't tried it yet. I found it in a half-price bin and I figured it was probably a good buy.

Sparky 02-11-2012 02:44 AM

games trying to emulate movies have never interested me. It's ruining the whole point of the medium. Perhaps if the game was full of virtual sex i would be more inclined to play it, but a videogame replicating a movie staple from half a century ago just doesn't do it for me.

I think the worst example of this are games like the Phantasmagoria adventure games from the 90s. They felt a little contrived to me, even if they initially did dazzle us with their sweet "graphics".

Games like Grand Theft Auto : Vice City or Red Dead Redemption really borrow a lot from movies and, in my opinion, it works perfectly.

Howard the Duck 02-11-2012 03:13 AM

was playing Worms 4 : Mayhem just now

turn-based combat, if ya dunno

quite fun

Don't you second hand copies of games in video game shops there? Here you can pick it up for about £7 which is about 9 or 10 bucks.

debaserr 02-11-2012 02:22 PM

https://apps.facebook.com/xboxmasseffect/uk

Go there and win access to the Mass Effect 3 demo today. Unfortunately it's probably being bombarded right now, it's kinda broken at the moment. Later it should work fine.

Sljslj 02-11-2012 02:38 PM

Even though I haven't heard good things about SC V, I figure I'll just pick up, play it for a week or two, and if I don't like it after that, just trade it in for $20-$30 in-store credit and SC IV 'cause I know I like that one.

Anyway, atm I'm playing a Wood Elf on Skyrim. Not my favorite character thus far (Redguard ftw), but still enjoyable. Skyrim is so ****ing awesome.

Also playing Borderlands again in preparation for the sequel coming out in a few months.

Goofle 02-11-2012 02:42 PM

Angry Birds 'cause I am an alternative mo-fo.

Yeah you're right I'm not sure why I even said $60 it's like $30 on Amazon brand new. The real question: is the game worth buying?

Fun games(s) but I can't help wishing that all of them pushed the aesthetics as far into the abstract as Void does. The world needs more visually unique video games.

So has nobody played this? It's really pretty good. Super addictive, and as I mentioned above, aesthetically very interesting. Here's the trailer if you're curious:

Howard the Duck 02-12-2012 01:19 AM

Vampyre Darkstalkers collection on the PS2 - satisfying and highly exciting - i'm biased cos i spent the most quarters on this 2D beat-'em up in the arcades

also Xenosaga II

debaserr 02-12-2012 02:55 AM

The Mass Effect 3 demo was pretty awesome. I guess the co-op isn't unlocked for a few days yet.

At full price no, but at a reduced price yes. Despite being linear in that you have to do the missions (cases) in order, it captures the feel of a film noir film of the 1940s perfectly. Also the police investigations are fun.

Sounds pretty much like all of the reviews I've been reading. The developers go through all the trouble of this face motion technology, but regardless of how well or poorly you read the facial expressions, the outcome is the same. That's definitely a lame way of implementing such cool technology.

It definitely seems worth the $15 or so I can get it for though, if only to see a 1940's recreation of Hollywood, and the film noir style that I love so much.

I played this for hours yesterday, but mostly because I had to figure out how to play the damn thing. Still not too bad, and it's free!

but yeah, definitely an old school RPG. Like...every letter of the keyboard is a different action type of old. Like...when ever you press "LEFT", it says "WEST" every time.

Howard the Duck 02-13-2012 08:13 AM

^^I've been playing Ultima V on the SNES meself

loads of fun, though the perspective is reeeeaaaaallllllyyyyy weird

Batman: Arkham city and Assassins creed revelations.

Love Assassins creed. Ezio is the man. Although he's old now.

I've played it and loved it. I even have the OST for Bit.trip Runner on my PC.

Also, for people asking if L.A. Noire is worth it, I'd say it's only good for one playthrough. After that, I got extremely bored of trying to do anything else in the game. There's literally zero replay value.

Is revelations any different from the other AC games?

I've played it a bit and it plays much like the previous games. There's a strategic minigame where you defend assassin HQs against soldiers and then there's zip-lines you can latch onto with your new hook-blade. That's the only new stuff I've seen a couple of hours into the game.

Kirby 02-14-2012 10:32 AM

Mass Effect 3 demo made me happy.

Even if the running animation is a bit dumb looking.

I'm glad I'm not alone here. I love it more and more every time I play it. So addictive.

Goofle 02-14-2012 12:03 PM

Mentioned that I play FIFA quite regularly on this thread. It's a really rewarding game because you can play with 10 other guys, all communicating at the same time, against a team of 11 other guys.

It's definitely addictive. I always feel like "NO! I have to do it PERFECTLY!"

Also, my girlfriend ordered this for me, for Valentine's Day. So Happy.

I finished this gem last month and still can't get the "I always kill the things I love" song out of my head. The game has some issues but the story is great, characters are memorable and you can skip all action sequences if you don't want to curse at the game for being broken (There's this one chase I had to do over like 20 times, it gets frustrating at times). Plus despite considering myself a gaming veteran and not-as-dumb-as-i-look, I still sentenced quite a few innocent men to the chair.
And to be at least a bit on topic: I'm currently during my 2nd Witcher 2 playthrough, this time I sided with Scoiatael, not mr Roche. This game is still the best looking game on pc to date and is among the best cRPG games.
Yac.

Unknown Soldier 02-15-2012 06:01 AM

I've recently been making a list of highly recommended PC adventure/rpg from various sources to play and this game is on the list. The list I have is way too big, but what is so good about the Witcher game?
