a bit late to the party

my first play was slaughtering the entire village of Riverwood

second play was mostly stealing and pickpocketing

only just started playing it normally a few days ago - i'm at level 15 - completed all the whiterun missions except the Companions' quests

the best bits are the dragon skirmishes - they give me minor heart attacks - once i got too near to a felled dragon and he ate me

Yeah alchemy is the next major skill I want to invest in, now that my archery, one-handed, sneak, lock picking, and light armor are all over 70. Basically I want to start making some really nasty poisons, like a strong frenzy potion so if I stumble across a group of bandits, I can just shoot one, and have him kill the others, assuming my shot doesn't kill him to begin with.

I don't think I'm going to train much more with pick pocketing though as I rarely ever come across anybody with anything I want that I can't just kill and take off the corpse. With my boots, a ring, and a few potions I can pretty much get away with most things, and then I can always just buy training to get a little better if I need to. Like the time I had to pick pocket a jewel off the old beggar lady in Windhelm for Delvin, and had her train me in it, then I stole all my money back along with the jewel.

I think if I play a thief class again I'm going to focus more on magic based stats, that could be a lot more challenging, but also more fun.

Go see the Greybeards, they will teach you a new shout and help you add to your Unrelenting Force one.

i dont think they're wasted right?(its been a while since i played) because you just store them as souls that you may spend whenever you want.

i only have UF and Whirlwind Spirit - Fire Breath and Fury I can't activate until I have "Soul Trap" - i need to go to winterhold and the college of magic to learn that, I suppose

no, i have to cast "Soul Trap" on it and kill it before the spell wears off

otherwise, the soul is gone

i've already killed 3 dragons so far

Don't you only have to unlock the shouts you've discovered with the dragon souls you've absorbed? There were a bunch of shouts in my inventory that weren't lit up, and I just unlocked them all at once, so I don't think it's wasted. I did almost 10 at once when I figured out that was all I needed to do.

It's rather normal and sensible for you to have really high stats in your main abilities while others are non-existent, don't sweat it. It's not like you won't be able to use magic so much as you won't be as effective with it. Another option instead of loading up on magic is to load up on potions which will provide similar effects.
I'm not to worried about mastering only one vein for replayability as there's enough variation in the quests to deter me from playing it again.

I've brought my other fighting attributes up considerably since the last time I've posted (two-handed - 85, one handed - 68, archery - 40, heavy armor - 65, light armor - 50). I've all but abandoned destruction magic (it takes me a good half a minute to kill a random bandit with destruction spells), but it's gotten to the point where I don't feel like I need it anyways, as I've completed the Winterhold College and Dark Brotherhood questlines, along with the Civil War questline (which was unbelievably easy, which was a bit disappointing).

The disparity in difficulty in some quests are really noticeable for me (probably because of my skill with melee weapons as opposed to magic, I guess). I walked through the civil war questline, but it took me like 20 tries at least to kill that Knevel guy in that Volunruud sidequest, and I lost my best follower doing it. The final room battle with Patema and the mage in the Temple of Meridia were unbelievably tough as well.

If you've learned the words of power, and have dragon souls, that's how you unlock the shout. Choose to unlock whichever shout (will be grayed out) and it will ask if you want to spend a soul. Choose yes. The shout will unlock.
Are you on PC or console? It took me a bit to figure it out on PC, but when you select a shout to unlock, on the menu below I think you press R to unlock the shout. It will tell you. Once you press it, it will ask if you want to spend a soul.
