Wouldn't call myself a "punker", just really a person who appreciates good music. But on the contrary, I prefer the Sex Pistols. I have albums by both bands and enjoy all of them... but to me, the Ramones sounded very... processed I guess, is the expression I'm looking for... kind of pop-punk if you will. Sex Pistols didn't give a ****. Just went out, did their thing, tried to make their point. For some reason someone singing about Anarchy in the UK and bashing EMI & abortions and whatnot speaks louder and more realistically to me than a more poppy band telling us they wanna be sedated because of the pain of white-collar life.

Well, I purchased Never Mind The Bollocks about a month ago when I was on vacation. To be honest, I was a little let down. I find alot of the songs to sound exactly the same. On the other hand, I haven't listened too much to The Ramones. I only know a couple of their signature pieces, such as "I Wanna Be Sedated" and "Blitzkrieg Bop," and they are enjoyable enough. But between the two of them, I'd have to go with the Pistols. They sound more raw and intense to me.

I think the Sex Pistols made the best album, and the Ramones made more good music. Peak value versus career value? It's a hard call. I'd give the edge to the Pistols, since I listen to Never Mind The Bollocks more than anything from the Ramones.

Love both bands, though. Both are absolutely essential. They both had great pop aesthetic.

The Sex Pistols had an enormous impact upon me so the Dolls don't really have a chance against that, but it's true they could do with a lot more recognision, i prefer them to the Ramones easily.

Modern Lovers for the win, in terms of "first wave punk" or "proto-punk" (depending on your perspective). I think the New York Dolls were great, but I put the Lovers a bit ahead of them (and the Stooges).

I had just voted for the Sex Pistols, because I was thinking to myself how similar most of the Ramones music was. But then again, The Sex Pistols weren't necessarily creative geniuses. BUT, when all is said and done, NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS was my favorite album of those two collective bands.
