Debut, easily.
|
Give em enough rope gets a listen more than most from back then but I still think their debut was their finest
|
London Calling for me. Just listening to the new Joe Strummer compilation, 001 - he sure made some great stuff on his own!
|
Tis an underrated album with some pure fire tracks.
|
London Calling may be the obvious answer but it's one of the best albums of history of music.
|
I havent ever heard that one, might have to see if I can find it :)

Except maybe for "Should I Stay or Should I Go" track from Combat Rock. |
Speaking as an old punk , I'd have to say The Clash ( first ) followed by Rope . Didn't like them once they'd moved away from punk , just wasn't for me any more .
|
Hmmmmmm maybe im a little outdated in knowing of thier different albums buddy,I dont wanna sound stupid or anything........

I was just surprised because, as I said, it's The Clash most famous album aside from "Should I Stay or Should I Go" track. But no one is bound to know it and knowing it or not doesn't make anyone smart or stupid. |
No dont worry of it my friend, things are ok :)
Happy thanksgiving!! |
Thanks, bud.
Happy thanksgiving for you too. Bless ya! |
I vote "Give Em Enough Rope" but I'm biased because it has my all time favorite Clash track "All the young punks (new boots and contracts)". That solo about halfway through always gets me on my feet, pogoing around the room.
It wasn't the first one I heard, but definitely the most "punk" of their output. I'd probably follow that with Sandinista! because that was such a diverse album and was a 3xLP... matter of fact I think I'll spin both of those when the current album is done |
"Drug Stabbing Time" is definitely a top 5 Clash track.
|
I would love hearing thier first album!!

I don't have The Clash because I can't find an original era pressing of it, only 180g reissues and if I'm going to be paying $25, I'd rather have it be the same version my mother had when she was in college. Still kicking my own arse for buying London Calling reissue when I probably could have found an original |
Quote:
Side one 1. "Clash City Rockers" 2. "I'm So Bored with the USA" 3. "Remote Control" 4. "Complete Control" 5. "White Riot" (single version) 6. "(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais" 7. "London's Burning" 8. "I Fought the Law" Side two 1. "Janie Jones" 2. "Career Opportunities" 3. "What's My Name" 4. "Hate & War" 5. "Police & Thieves" 6. "Jail Guitar Doors" 7. "Garageland" |
I had it on CD when I was in high school back in 2001, I just figured maybe the vinyl version was different or something...
idk, I'm jacked up to the ceiling on coffee and kratom. I can't remember sh!te |
Nah the Clash debut was one of a long line of English vs. American releases that were almost completely different.
|
I'll have to look for both versions then.
I'm a collector to a fault. I get my hands on great records for a good price and then never want to resell them, so I don't make any money. I could probably resell my copy of Give em Enough Rope for $40, but I'm too much of a b!tch to part with it because it makes me feel like more of an accomplished dork than having money does. Pretty fatal flaw |
I will also say the first (UK version) because it's my all time favourite album behind"Horses", but London Calling is probably the sprawling masterpiece. I would argue that only the first one is a punk album anyway although that's another matter.
