I have a bit of a thing for Sandinista! and the crazy stuff they try but if I have to sit down and listen from beginning to end...it's London Calling. There really isn't a way around it.

Sandinista! is what really makes them in my eyes, though.

CRAZY-HORSE 11-14-2011 05:54 AM

1. The Clash
2. London Calling
3. Combat Rock
4. Give 'em Enough Rope
5. Sandinista
6. Cut The Crap

Cheers to the folks who pick Sandanista!

It is very easy to pick London Calling, which is often picked in "Best of" lists, but Sandanista, to me at least, helped define and separate The Clash from their peers. Besides, how many 3 disc records does anyone have in their vinyl collection?

Sansa Stark 09-23-2013 11:10 PM

Combat Rock is so ****ing underrated, definitely my second favourite album. Sean Flynn is truly the soundtrack to my mental happy place. That and Ghetto Defendent but you can't go wrong with Ginsberg in general, he used to be my lullaby when I'd be too wound up to sleep.

Well I'm privy to Super Black Market Clash for the dub mixes by Mickey Dread, most notably for Justice Tonight, but he also worked with them on Sandinista, which not only has One more Dub, but my favourite Clash song of all time "One More Time" as well as other great songs like the Call Up and Magnificent Seven.

It is a shame that Joe Strummer died so young. Personally I think he was a better spokesman for his generation than John Lydon, RIP Joe.

John Lydon is the worst, but how can you expect much from someone who was in a band that was put together to sell clothes?

The Sex Pistols was far more than Vivienne Westwood's clothing line. John Lydon has stated it was never about the clothes for the band.

I do not dislike Lydon, I just find him horribly egocentric...so in that respect you could say he is the worst.

Cuthbert 09-25-2013 10:20 AM

I have London Calling on CD.

I like it.

Black Market Clash is an under appreciated release by the Clash. Mikey Dread's sound board work is mind blowing.

You hit the nail on the head Gavin, Justice Tonight in particular is Ultra mind blowing! the reverb on rhythm, the bone carving sound in the background, the bell sounds, I love the dub mix on the Call Up & Rock the Casbah as well.

RIP: Mickey Dread

i luv em all but sandonista has a special resonance with me. I didn't like it at first but it has since grown on me like a shroom.
Black Market brilliant shout!

london calling

chriscarter11 11-12-2013 10:47 AM

No doubts on London Calling!

Ana Kovacheva 05-30-2014 04:31 PM

London Calling, but Give Them Enough Rope is also very good

GuD 05-30-2014 06:27 PM

Their debut is my favorite, followed by London Calling and then ECW. I'm not big fan of Sandinista or Combat Rock. Cut the Crap is awful.

Ana Kovacheva 05-31-2014 03:18 PM

yes, The Clash is really good

hate paper doll 05-31-2014 03:27 PM

I'm going to say London Calling, just because it's the only one in their discography that I still own and can listen to the whole way through. Besides, Death Or Glory is one of my all time faves.

Ana Kovacheva 05-31-2014 04:16 PM

I think it's the undisputed best one

Taxman 06-01-2014 02:41 AM

London Calling thought Sandinista comes close

Psy-Fi 06-01-2014 10:04 AM

In order...

London Calling
Give Em' Enough Rope
The Clash
Sandinista!
Combat Rock
Cut The Crap

Liberian Girl 06-01-2014 03:56 PM

Although I'll not be original, I choose London Calling. I think The Guns Of Brixton is one of my all time faves songs.

noisemeth 06-09-2014 11:13 AM

all

Dr_Rez 06-09-2014 03:54 PM

Same for me except switch around Give Em' enough Rope with The Clash.

Pink Peony 06-20-2014 07:35 AM

First album and Give 'Em Enough Rope.

Amphoteric 07-01-2014 01:53 PM

London Calling, hands down, followed by their debut.

Musicwhore A-Z 07-01-2014 02:19 PM

I agree with the majority on this one: 'London Calling' by far.

darkhorse91 08-14-2014 10:52 AM

My vote is for Combat Rock, because when you ask the average person to name a Clash song, they say either "Should I Stay Or Should I Go? or "Rock the Casbah"

Swordfishtrombone 08-14-2014 11:14 AM

London Calling is my favorite record of all time, and it's not even close. I bought London Calling when I was 14 years old after a store clerk told me that I wasn't old enough to buy New Found Glory's latest album. It fundamentally changed the way I listened to music. It exposed me to a whole new world of music I'd never paid attention to, and got me out of that all punk, all the time phase I spent all of middle school in (I still love punk, for the record, LC just taught me to love a lot more). Listening to that album is like visiting an old friend.

Apart from all the personal connections, it's miles ahead of their other work. Every single track is a unique exercise in excellence. The variety is all over the place, and the lyrics are as sharp as Strummer and company ever wrote. It's a rare feat; a double album without a bad song or an ounce of filler.

Nicely done. One of the greatest albums ever.
