Definetly London Calling!
What do you think about their live Rekorde? I LOVE their Live At Shea Stadium Rekord. |
I saw them when Combat Rock came out, which is really too bad - just a year or two earlier would have been SO much better...
First album, duh. |
London's Calling :D
It's a landslide!
Of course the answer is London Calling, but Give 'Em Enough Rope and Sandinista are both great albums as well. I'm not as into the debut, although it isn't as bad as the last two.
London Calling hands down, I'm not gonna even name a favorite track cause they are all golden, it is my road trip album, and I just covered Rudie Can't Fail at an open mic on Thursday haha
I've listened only to two Clash albums: London Calling and Combat Rock. Between these two, I can say that I prefer London Calling.

I'm with the popular opinion, London Calling.
It's easily their most thorough, dynamic, and thought out work. |
London calling mate.

London Calling is CLASSIC. Without a doubt their best.
Sandinista would have been a magnificent single album. Cut the Crap is crap. They replaced Jones with two guitarists and it was still weak and awful. I had tickets for all 8 original shows at Bonds Casino in NYC. Opening night they overpacked the place by double and when I left (I was upfront and it took a while) there were fire marshalls at each door counting heads. They had to double the amount of shows or cancel the remaining shows. I saw 8 of the 16 shows. All were MAGNIFICENT. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were the first opening act opening night, and they were booed off stage. My friend was drinking a bottle of pre-mixed vodka/orange juice. When he was done, I told him to throw the bottle at the band, which he did. Grandmaster stopped and they started yelling that The Clash asked them to perform... The audience just booed them off the stage. They really sucked. I saw them a few times after that, and they always sucked. But, The Message in my opinion is the best rap song ever. |
I would have said London Calling in the past but then I discovered the Vanilla Tapes album, the fire in soweto cover has been my go to chill out song ever since.

As a punk record, the first is the best.
As a rock in general record, London Calling is the best. |
London Calling closely followed by their first album
I honestly would go with Combat Rock, even though it's not the most popular choice. It's their most complete and unified work, closely followed by their debut, but the aggregate quality isn't as high on that one as on Combat Rock, IMO. London Calling and Sandinista! have their best music, but those both have loads of filler and even bad songs and would have been much better if condensed to single discs.
Not much to say about Give Em' Enough Rope. It's just there. I haven't even bothered listening to Cut the Crap out of the assumption that it's as bad as everyone says. |

Okay, Guns of Brixton is awesome and one of their best songs. That's definitely not part of the album's filler. It's in the top three songs of the album IMO with the title track and Spanish Bombs.
OMG how the **** why? Those vocals are an insomnia cure, and two songs after "Supermarket", an actual clever social commentary, "Guns of Brixton"'s message is so basic and cringe inducing that it's embarrassing. Oh and forget that it was written by The Clash and it becomes an NRA anthem.

If we're going top three Clash songs and not just the three best on London Calling, I'd have London Calling no. 1 and Remote Control and Spanish Bombs rounding out the top three.

And BTW, the only thing that would make the US version of The Clash in any way more desirable than the UK version is that it has "Clash City Rockers". As I'm not a vinyl collector I'm kind of glad that single releases aren't a thing anymore, cause **** not getting such awesome songs on the actual album.
I haven't heard much of Clash's music but his album Calling London is neat.
Apart from the London Calling title track I´ve heard almost nothing by The Clash, but Joe Strummer made some great albums with The Mescaleros. Just say the word and I'll necro-bump a thread about one...
London Calling for me.
I went with London Calling. The other ones are good but London Calling stands out like a sore thumb to me.
Sandinista. Best for me.
I love Combat Rock for songs such as "Should I Stay or Should I Go" and "Rock the Casbah"... But as for their best album in it's entirety, I'd say either the debut or London Calling. I think I would even go with the debut.
London Calling isn't a punk album yet its by the best punk band. There has the be every genre of music explored on that album; soul, rockabilly, ska..... A classic!

I've only listened to the US version of The Clash, London Calling and Sandinista extensively enough to rate them, and they're all pretty great. I'd say London Calling is probably the one I'd give the edge to.
London Calling is brilliant but I'm going with the debut album. I just love the original raw punk sound.
.....and the reggae influences
has to be London Calling!!
Sing Michael sing! |
The debut has a raw punk energy which hooks me to it every time I listen to it. I voted The Clash, but I admit that London Calling is their most complete and influential album.
Has to be London Calling.
