I love both Television and Magazine. I would try and add a couple of bands to this thread but like the above poster I see this as being a huge umbrella term and I'm not quite familiar with it so I don't exactly what to post. I'd like to see some more posts added to this thread though.

Yea, I see your point. I'll admit, I still don't have a complete grasp on what "art punk" is myself. Maybe figuring out what it is could become apart of the discussion?

Like Dankrsta I have always thought Art Punk was mostly post-punk and maybe some of the proto-punk bands and maybe even no wave? I don't really know though.

The Screamers were most defiantly "art punk"

The Blood Brothers qualify I think. although they kind of walk the line between "art" and "fucking destroy all art" but I think that's taking the name "art punk" too literally.

I never listened to that album but judging by that track it sounds like Liza Minnelli compared to their older stuff (in heaviness not quality). Kind of cool that they moved on though. Most bands like them stick with the GG Allin worship till death

I think it's a pointless genre. It could all be put under something else.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say "pointless," but I do believe it could be established a bit better. So far, I can only really name Television as purely "art rock" (and that's only with one of their albums - Marquee Moon). I mean, if art punk is going to be a complete genre, then there should be a more detailed definition.

Kind of yeah... most of the stuff in this thread falls under post-punk, post-hardcore, noise rock, or No Wave.

I would call F*cked Up purely art punk though, because they stay close to the traditional punk sounds but have a lot of experimental tendencies and odd songwriting. I'm sure people would debate that though.

Swell Maps!
The Ex!
Bush Tetras!

But really, to me "art punk" is just another (more rubbish) name for post punk. I concur with James.

Would Les Savy Fav's The Cat and the Cobra be considered art-punk? I really like that album.
