On these facts alone I could never consider this album a classic. I also don't really see the influence it wields, I mean it's mostly soul samples and a pseudo storyline, overall it's a pretty standard Kanye album.

I really like all three of those songs. 'Runaway' and 'Devil In A New Dress' are my favourites on the album, and I don't like 'Monster' much so I disagree with these sentiments.

Surell 03-10-2015 12:01 PM

^ those are definitely the best tracks, and while "Monster" is fine, I actually most enjoy Kanye on that, and found not only the beat but Nicki Minaj's verse (lyrically) underwhelming. Yeah, she basically laid out all her vocal talents on the song, but, as I usually find myself feeling, her lyrics just didn't impress. Probably one of her better verses, top 10 and what have you, but I'm just not a huge fan of her lyrically.

James 03-10-2015 12:10 PM

Minaj just grates on me.

John Wilkes Booth 03-10-2015 12:37 PM

i don't like female rappers in general

Ninetales 03-10-2015 12:41 PM

nicki minaj's part of monster is the best part of the whole album ok bye

Lauryn Hill? Only one I rate much. Azealia Banks released a great album last year though.

John Wilkes Booth 03-10-2015 01:22 PM

i was going to make an exception for lauryn hill. her rapping on the fugees is the only female rap that i have enjoyed tbh

i think it has to do with what i was saying in the other thread... rap is sort of a man's sport. there are talented female mc's that i still can't really listen to cause their girly voice makes their hard posturing look silly

but lauryn hill has sort of a deep voice for a woman and manages to pull it off in a way that neither turns her into a sex object like lil kim/foxy/nicki minaj nor takes away her femininity/sex appeal

but to be those sex object type female rappers just seem like they belong dancing in the videos instead of rapping

Black Francis 03-10-2015 01:45 PM

I liked Foxy Brown..

Her hot spot video was hot <3

I agree on Lauren hill as well, her rap delivery is pretty good

Cuthbert 03-10-2015 02:07 PM

I like Lauryn Hill as a rapper a lot but her album was a bit too RnB for my tastes. And a bit corny.

Eve was very good.

Not American but Lady Leshurr is excellent as well.

Agree with Ninetails too.

Neff Anselmo 03-10-2015 02:08 PM

I don't care for Kanye West, or what he did at the Grammys, which is one of the reasons why I never watch it.

Thelonious Monkey 03-10-2015 02:11 PM

Halfway through Yeezus. Guaranteed 5 star for RYM.

never listened to her album. i don't listen to female rappers in general. but she was on point on the fugees album.

forgot about eve... she might be another exception

but nah ninetales is wrong nicky minaj verse on monster is corny as hell

John Wilkes Booth 03-10-2015 03:05 PM

after listening to it again, i'll back off a bit. it's not corny as hell but it's not that amazing either

honestly monster is the one song on the album where kanye out-shined his guests

minaj gets all the attention only cause she has a vagina and can do voice tricks

Ninetales 03-10-2015 03:10 PM

well atleast you know jay's is the worst

John Wilkes Booth 03-10-2015 03:29 PM

yea jay didn't put much effort into that one

honestly raekwon probably had the best verse on the entire album

which is a bit ironic since one raekwon's debut nas had the best verse on the entire album

'Awesome' leaked. This is just weird, the auto tune is annoying as hell. Let's hope it ain't on the new album.

Rick Ross on Devil in a New Dress is the best in my opinion followed by CyHi The Prince's on So Appalled

I know you're an advocate of old school rappers, but after playing the album many times myself I could not tell you how Raekwon's verse goes at all, it's instantly forgettable. Not exactly the mark of the best verse on the album, 216.

John Wilkes Booth 04-08-2015 05:41 PM

i honestly had to go back and listen to that rick ross verse again just to see what you were on about, that's how memorable his verse was to me

though i'll admit some of the allure of raekwon's bit is the way the beat switched up at that point, in retrospect

and lol @ 216

that guy really ****ed this board's psyche up, huh

Justthefacts 04-09-2015 01:29 AM

So who here who aren't fans of Kanye still gonna listen to "So Help Me God? I sense some out there.

I hate most of his stuff but thought Yeezus was passable so I'll be giving it a listen. Gotta know your enemies.

I may give it a listen at some point. If he does something similar to Yeezus but with less of his own vocals, I might enjoy it.

yeah that's definitely up there, but i'd probably say one of my favorite things on the whole album was Kanye on Gorgeous, Rae did good but it was pretty much what you'd expect from Rae. Also I loved Pusha's "Runaway" verse, but Pusha always kills shit to me.

couldn't stand that verse, but that song was so lackluster to me. I think I may have mentioned it but Pusha probably had my favorite verse on there, but it still didn't grab me, though it had some great moments.

Justthefacts 05-04-2015 02:47 PM

swish

Cuthbert 05-04-2015 03:06 PM

Shit name. I like So Help Me God better. But if he's changing the name of it, then can't see it out for another month at least.

I like the name a lot actually. I see many Basketball references on this record, exactly what Kanye needs.

Just really not digging the name SWISH at all I thought So Help Me God was better. Either way I'm gonna listen to it and it'll be the same album just not my favorite album title.

Plainview 05-06-2015 03:31 PM

To me, SWISH and So Help Me God suggest completely different styles, musically. I was expecting an introspective, redemptive, hopeful album with the former, but the new one is resolutely less interesting or ambitious-sounding. We'll see what happens.

Goofle 05-06-2015 03:43 PM

What the hell is this swish?

I heard it could be to do with basketball or 'swishers'. I can't remember where I read that...

Well first off the unfortunate new name for Kanye's album. If your asking what it is he's probably referring to a swish in basketball or getting "nothin but net".

DwnWthVwls 05-09-2015 09:49 AM

Too bad it's not: SWISH, the sound of Kanye getting decapitated by a helicopter blade.

The way Kanye toured for Yeezus he used a mountain, this tour he'll use his personal helicopter to decapitate a hologram of him. Kanye blood and guts spray throughout the whole crowd. I'd never wash myself again.

DeadChannel 05-09-2015 12:54 PM

That doesn't sound like a hologram to me.
