I wouldn`t describe the Smashing Pumpkins as sounding simple! Have you ever listened to any of their albums? As for both Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins sounding all over the place...............an untrained ear could possibly think this.

It's just a matter of opinion... I'm tired of people bashing my music taste around here and everyone thinking they're better than me. Yes I have listened to their albums. I listened to the album Bleach by Nirvana and I've listened to Gish and Adore by Smashing Pumpkins, I didn't like what I heard. I also don't have an untrained ear, I happen to have a very good ear actually.

Yup that's post-rock with some elements of emo. You should definitely get their album - Pneuma. It's one of my favourites. I have some other good post-rock recs if you're interested further. But these guys are definitely amazing.
