Jeff Beck did it all.
|
lulz who put robert smith up there?
|
That was probably down to me saying that someone like him was more interesting than all the boring power metal sh*te that was listed.
|
I have to say Slash! Greatest guitarist EVER! Yes, even over Hendrix! Sorry...
|
Slash is more or less Joe Perry with added distortion. And Perry is a painfully generic '70s rock guitarist. So I'm pretty sure Slash is like, objectively bad.
|
As much as I like Gilmour and Rhoads I had to go with Hendrix.
|
i would say...
jimi hendrix jimmy page david gilmour george harrison eric clapton carlos santana |
It's impossible for there to be a best guitarist, because it is too vague. There are different genres, different ways of playing, and the person's opinion. But from that list, I'd pick my favorite guitarist which is Slash.
|
jimmy page
|
kurt cobain
no doubt! |
jimmy page is the greates ever. could write guitar play guitar, knew how to manipulate and combine other instruments with his guitar(theremin, violin bows). he was all around the best there was and is. i just hope he will still show hes got it at the ahmet ertegun tribute in december.
|
I'd say Jimmy Page is the greatest hes my idol and well hes the most versital one out of all of them, David Gilmour is the best slow player and the one who put the most heart in his solos. I think Stevie Ray Vaughn is the best blues player even better then BB King and all of them. And I don't like Eddie Van Halen or Slash, because they are just punks compared to Page and Gilmour and others I think.

I'm surprised Robert Johnson isn't on the list |
Don't forget zack wylde guys... He's pretty good.
|
Who the hell is Jari Mäenpäa? Hendrix lays waste to the rest of the list.

Man, this thread definitely doesn't go on forever. O wait...yea.. it does
and for the record unless someones mentioned him, Derek Trucks would be up there. hes the king of slide. |
Look in any professional guitarist reviews such as Guitar world and Hendrix ownes them all
|
Hendrix, without a doubt. The way he utilised feedback and various timbres in his music still amazes me.
One great guitarist not mentionted on the poll list is Robert Fripp of King Crimson. He rarely solos, but when he does, its a mind-bending experience... ~ josh |
Michael Hedges
Oh, I failed to mention, as a primarily acoustic guitarist, Michael Hedges certainly deserves honourable mention...
~ josh |
What about The Edge? He has a pretty unique sound.
|
Seeing as it's not a debate on who was the most influential revolutionary guitarist of all time and instead just one on who is the best, Hendrix shouldn't have so many votes.
I'll go with Michael Angelo Batio. :afro: Not that I'd ever be bothered listening to him or anything |

I was going to say Johnny Marr, but he wasn't there ._. or Tommy Emmanuel too.

Anyone with less than 10 votes has been eliminated
We now have a head to head for the Ultimate Guitarist You have until Sunday to cast your vote. |
Both had a great deal of technical skill and wrote some of the most memorable rock riffs of all-time, but Hendrix was undoubtedly the more innovative guitarist.
|
Hendrix, though this is a kinda difficult choice
|
I'm sorry, but Cobain wasn't necessarily good. Just because he's dead now, doesn't make him a legend. Have you ever tried to play one of Nirvana's songs on guitar? They're just very easy to learn and play.
My opinion of the best guitarist ever is going to Buckethead. He's different. He's mysterious and that's why I love him. He hides his true identity because he doesn't want to be known for anything else besides his music. He wants people to only see him for what he's good at. He's an EXCELLENT guitarist with a totally unique style. |

Eric Clapton, Slash, Jimi Hendrix, Dimebag, The Edge, Cobain was okay, I guess, but not AMAZING. I also like Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold. Back to Cobain, yes he was extremely influential and paved a new path for rock and grunge, but that wasn't just him, it was his band too. He's not the best songwriter or guitarists, but the lyrics and the genre still impacted so many teenagers and adults, actually just many people, forming a lot of bands in perspective. I'm sure many of the bands now-a-days wouldn't be recording right now if it weren't for Nirvana.

gimmick that people like you buy into. |

Anyone who can create music that sounds as good as Nirvana must be good, regardless of how hard it is to play. |

Yeah. I'm just gonna go ahead and call that a really f*cking stupid thing to say. |
