Hey, I really have enjoyed Death Magnetic, though I am definitely not a Metallica die hard... it just sounds like they sweated over song structure, and are genuinely interested in making a challenging album...which is more than can be said for their Load and Reload era...

It was a worthy effort I thought... in spite of the whole rehashing their old style thing... I still like it!

A fair assessment I think... this thread is thus getting a little old and stale...

The poll might have been more revealing if it had people rate the album on a scale of 1-5 or 1-10.

It's no classic, but it doesn't suck. I reserve that term for anything with a score of 2 or less out of 5. Anyway, here's how I'd rate the individual tracks:
1. Cyanide 4/5
2. The Judas Kiss 4/5
3. Broken, Beat, and Scarred 4/5
4. My Apocalypse 3/5
5. All Nightmare Long 2.5/5
6. That Was Just Your Life 2.5/5
7. The End of The Line 2.5/5
8. Suicide and Redemption 2.5/5
9. The Unforgiven III 1/5
10. The Day that Never Comes 1/5

Come on. This is about the heaviest these old farts are gonna' get. Would I choose to listen to it? Probably not. I disowned them when the black album came out, but I'd call the album, at the least a step in the right direction.

My favourite track is All Nightmare Long and I like the whole album. No way do I love it like ...And Justice for All which is my favourite, but I like it the more I listen to it.

I'm glad it wasn't another St. Anger.
