and I have all the four solo albums, though "Peter Criss" really blows "Ace Frehley" is essential, though |
So I'm feeling like some hard rock, and I've decided that it's between AC/DC, (anything you guys want to recommend other than If You Want Blood and Back In Black) Metallica's Load and/or Reload, GNR's "Chinese Democracy" or something by Kiss. If you guys had choose between buying one or two of these, what would you choose?
|
I will say it before and say it again on AC/DC... "Powerage".
Load may have it's flaws, but it is a masterpeice compared to Chinese Democracy. |

I do not mind Load, not something I would listen to all the time, but it is alright. uneven, it is a middle ground album for me.

meh, not miles better.... but better none the less. I have never been huge into G'n'R... but "Appetite for Destruction" is still a good raunchy record, that is good for the ocassional listen.

If anyone here likes Melodic metal, try Children of Bodom! They are a Finnish band that has some seriously good tunes, I often highlight them on Fusionrise.

Does anyone know what the tracklisting on the 1990 version of Are You Experienced is?
Also, what year do you guys recommend for the Hendrix albums? |

What album should I get, Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue or Stained Class by Priest?
Also, what do you guys think is better, Use Your Illusion 1 and 2 or Metallicas Load and Reload? |

Is death n' roll exclusive to Entombed or are there other groups that experimented with the sound as well?
|
Quote:
first 2 albums were more just Death Metal, and like Entombed, starting on their third album "Erase", they started going the death n roll route.. Carcass: Their last album "Swansong" was a Death n Roll album, before that they started out a goregrind band/Death Metal band, before going more melodic Death Metal on "Heartwork", and the last album was a Death n Roll album Death Breath: "Stinking Up the Night" is one of the best in the style, them and Entombed were the tops of this style to me. The album came out in 2006. Macabre: Their last album "Grim Scary Tales" was a very Death n Roll album, before that they were known as many styles, Macabre were an early Death Metal band, not getting a lot of credit for it.. They also had elements of grindcore, hardcore punk and even acoustic rock.. those are a few. Entombed, Gorefest and Death Breath are the tops in that style to me. I guess to a certain extent, could count Six Feet Under as well.
"Haunted" alwas had a bit of that sound to me. I am by no means a SFU fanatic, I think they are just meh... but "Haunted" to me is still a fun record, nothing groundbreaking or original, but a sort of every once in a shile thing. As is the follow up "Warpath", which I think is their best.. They are a guilty please band for me, many Death Metal fans will ream ya out for admiting to liking SFU, but whatever. |
Thanks for the recommendations! I found Carcass and Gorefest to be the best of your list. Six Feet Under was....average. I think its pretty damn cool how varied the discography of Carcass is. They were truly quite innovative.

Carcass, yeah.. they were always reinventing themselves. "Heartwork" and "Symphony of Sickness" are my favorites from them. For Gorefest, "False" is my favorite from them. |
Everyone go listen to "Monotheist" by Celtic Frost. I stumbled across it the other day and forgot that I had it. Suffice to say I can't stop listening. ****ing brilliant work of art.
|
"To Mega Therion" is still my favorite by Celtic Frost.

"To Mega Therion" is pretty awright, I guess |
For older Celtic Frost, Morbid Tales is my fav. That's not to discredit the other albums, I like all their other stuff expect for Crystal Lake. Monotheist is still my fav overall though, nothing else out there sounds quite like it.

Therion is alright to me, never got that into them, "Beyond Sactorum" is about all i really enjoy. stuff after was just not my cup of tea.

I am not sure your views on Death Metal, but Therion's first 3 albums are different from what they are doing now, "Of Darkness..." was a straight ahead Death Metal album, "Beyond Sactorum" is a Death Metal album with hints of Doom Metal, and "Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas" was a Death Metal, Doom Metal and Avant-Garde Metal album...
those albums I actually enjoy from time to time... not huge on the stuff that came after, though "Lepaca Kliffoth" was decent, symphonic metal with a thrash influence. "Theli" and on is when they went really symphonic. I recommend "Beyond Sanctorum" to anybody who is curious about Death Metal and wants to get into the style. One of the best. Another one was Darkthrone's first album "Soulside Journey", their one and only Death Metal album before shifting to Black Metal. |

I have heard of Hellhammer, another Tom Warrior project, yes?
When it comes to death metal, I don't really listen to it much. I do recognize its importance and respect the genre very much. Bands like Atheist and Necrophagist (just for examples) are pretty untouchable in terms of technicality. Personally, I attribute my lack of a taste for death metal to the difference in generations between myself and most MB members on this forum. I didn't grow up with death metal. |
