*goes and listens* It's pretty good. |
@Catgod,
If you like Death Metal, and the heavier side of Thrash. You'll probably like Suffocation. Also, when I looked up TBDM, I was pretty instantly reminded of Benighted Lastly, as obvious as this might be (it's obvious, oh it's obvious all right. I spent a while wondering if I should even say this) Slayer and Metallica go pretty good together. |

You may also want to try out another doom metal band called Witchcraft. Their 2007 release The Alchemist had a really nice old school doom sound but with plenty of newer psychedelic overtones to it. It's kind of a polarized album though so you may like it or hate it, but it's a band that nobody else has mentioned that is at least worth a look. Then of course you might find some gems with the American stoner metal bands like Sleep and Kyuss, two of the most popular. If you go that direction you NEED to give Sleep's Dopesmoker a try. It's an hour long track that is just all over the place, but it may be a little too esoteric for your first experience, but it is one of the most regarded stoner metal albums of the last decade. As for Kyuss, well any of their albums are worth a listen but their 1994 Welcome to Sky Valley is often the best place for beginners to start. Quote:
In Flames - Whoracle (1997), The Jester Race (1996) At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul (1995) Dark Tranquility - Skydancer/Of Chaos and Eternal Night (1999) Hypocrisy - Abducted (1996), The Final Chapter (1997), Hypocrisy (1999) (it's a toss up between those three) You'll also definitely want to check out Carcass' last two albums Heartwork (1993) and Swansong (1996) as they really helped pioneer the genre. |

Slayer songs that I enjoy are: Raining Blood; War Ensemble; Angel of Death; Deviance; Love to Hate; Jesus Saves. |

I also enjoyed From The 13th Sun, where their music took on a bit of a faster approach. Both are two favourites of mine. |

I have tons of epic-Doom suggestions if anyone needs them. Doom Metal/Stoner Metal and Sludge Metal is where most of my knowledge is when it comes to metal. So just let me know. |
I'm looking for some good hardcore metal like Hatebreed, Full Blown Chaos, or Walls Of Jericho. Any suggestions?
|
I'm looking for some new symphonic metal bands. Like Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Delain ect.
No "death grunts" or anything of the sort please. |

Maybe Racer X, or Michael Schenker Group.

I had a weird impulse to listen to Queens of the Stone Age about 20 minutes ago, not sure why. Any other bands like them?
Next request is somewhat out in left field. Is there anything like Joe Satriani's "Satch Boogie"out there? Upbeat, almost like swing, I guess you could say. |

@Hank, I've heard of Kyuss through Pandora the other day, it played a song, I'm guessing a mix of 3 or 4 songs in one, totaling about 18 minutes. It was rather odd.
And xEMGx, I know both songs you suggested. Scatterbrain....ehh. I don't really like. It seems a bit...erratic, to say the least. Surfing with the Alien is a great piece of work. I prefer hearing live versions of it. |

I guess Dream Theater could be a symphonic metal band, I prefer their instrumentals, cause their singer is not my favorite.
^ And yeah, I'll think Symphony X is a great mention. |
Last month I found two names that seems to be really interesting.
Ihsahn - IHSAHN on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads Former singer of black metal band Emperor. Now he has 3 solo albums. I like the last one very much (After) - interesting metal with saxophone, strange sound but great and very inspirative. Leprous - Leprous on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads This band plays now with Ihsahn on summer music festivals. Sound for open-minded metalheads :D They have between influences such names like Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation, Tool... and also classical music ;) If you like progressive metal and don't know about these two names, I really recommend :) |
Ihsahn is an amazing musician. His stuff with Emperor had such a huge influence on some of the more recent symphonic black metal bands and he's done a lot of work with the more avant-garde/post-black metal genres.
If you liked his solo albums (I would highly recommend checking out The Adversary and angL) then you would definitely like Peccatum, specifically the album Lost in Reverie. The band features his wife, Ihriel, on vocals so there's this really cool dynamic between the two. |

Ok, I will try Peccatum, I love contrast of male and female voice together. Interesting recommendation :thumb: |
HURT - Rapture
I found this song and band on Itunes and I was woundering if there were any other good songs by them, or recommended albums?
This may sound kinda wanky, but the song Rapture reminded me of a 'Placebo & a hint of 'Danzig' & 'Jim Morrison' influence, I do know their an older band I believe, because I read somewhere that they were on tour with Alice & Chains before, awesome tune. YouTube - Hurt - Rapture |
I liked it. ^

I don't want to sound arrogant or anything, but I posted this a few days ago and no one said anything.
Anyway, I'm looking for something in the style of Hatebreed or Walls Of Jericho, any suggestions?? |
You posted it yesterday. Anyways you're after metalcore, now I avoid that garbage like the plague so I'm just going to post this, a collection of artists who fall under that genre from last.fm
I suppose you might want to try Sepultura though, Brazilian trash metal with death metal overtones. Specifically try The Roots of Sepultura which features traditional Brazilian instruments along with the electric guitars. |

Is it to post a link? Which is against the rules. Anyway this is recommendations not who your favorite is. |
I'm lookin for some good, female-fronted metal that's not The Agonist, Otep, Arch Enemy, Walls Of Jericho, or Kittie, as (obviously) I already know all of them. Any suggestions?

Bands you probably might know: Nightwish Epica Lacuna Coil Evanescence Within Temptation Paramore In This Moment ...And ones you might not: Theatres Des Vampires Gallhammer I'll edit this, or post another message, if I can think of any more. |
12 Stones - Broken (/watch?v=4R8_Z39qXBE)
Seven Channels - Breathe (/watch?v=47N0YmWGs0U) Submersed - Hollow (/watch?v=JuFsqR_3r28) The above songs all belong to a specific genre of rock if I'm not mistaken. Post Grunge? Alternative Rock? I don't know, so if someone could tell me I'd love that. Anyone know songs of this same genre and of the SAME INTENSITY?...the other songs by these bands are all weak. Those are all their hit songs and follow pretty much the same structure, too. This kind of rock is very different from, say, Breaking Benjamin. Or Seether, or Trapt, or Foo Fighters. All of which I like, they are just different. |

Nightwish, Epica, Evanescence (especially), and Paramore all suck. I've never heard either Within Temptation or In This Moment, but I'll definitely give 'em a listen. Thanks. |
