I have quite a few favorites and y highest recommendations from rock (metal) bands and their top songs are listed below:
Senses Fail - Can't be Saved A Day to Remember - You Should Have Killed Me When You Had the Chance Of Mice and Men - Repeating Apologies Linkin Park - Breaking the Habit Flyleaf - Missing Fireflight - Stay Close Evanescence - My Immortal Story of the Year - Until the Day I Die |
I've got quite the many favorites in the field of rock and metal, but most of those are bands I'm sure all of you have heard of (Slipknot, Rammstein... etc). So in order to actually recommend something that could be new for you guys I've gotta stay true to my long time favorite: Fireal
Fireal is an alternative/industrial rock/metal band from Finland. They have been active for pretty long already and used to go under the name Bleak. I really suggest you check them out if you're in any way into the industrial sound! |

One of the loudest and most emotionally-draining albums I've ever listened to. Don't ask questions just do it. Either that or anything by Nadja. |

Every Pantera before VDoP sucks. Yes, that includes CfH. That goes quintuple for the glam/hair sh*t. I think VDoP and FBD are great albums, with the lone exception of "Good Friends And A Bottle Of Pills" which I can completely do without. OK, Phil, you can swear, we get it. But that aside, VDoP and FBD were great, groundbreaking albums, due mostly to the Abbott's Oh yes, I think PA is a total dooshnozzle scuzzbucket wankhole. I have to admit he did good work on those 2 albums (except GF&aBoP), but that doesn't change the fact that I'd rather spend a day in Antarctica than a nanosecond with PA I think that the albums that followed FBD sucked, just not quite as badly as the glam albums. At least CfH was somewhat of a step forward I think what happened in Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio in December '04 is as unthinkably tragic as what took place exactly 24 years prior in front of The Dakota in NYC, and I'm quite certain you do too. Fair enough? |

I'm also getting into small Scottish post-hardcore band Yashin. I've also gotten into Killswitch Engage. I've never been into the "Screamo" vocals much before so ths is a whole new experience for me. Bands and Songs by them with links maybe would really help and can you tell me what genre they are as well. I don't want to get mixed up xD Thanks!

Anyone knows a band which resembles Tool? I've been digging a bit and found a band named "Peach", which is slightly similar and I kind-of like it. And ofc I've heard of APC and Puscifer but 90% of their stuff isn't similar to Tool IMO.
Best description I can give is heavy riffs(optional, relative), mystic/dark music texture, powerful vocals and decent songwriting. NO growling. My favorite Tool albums are Undertow and Lateralus and my favorite songs are The Grudge, Stinkfist, Sober and Reflection if that helps. Bands which have already been recommended to me: Radiohead(meh) and Dream Theater(maybe I'd even listen to them if their vocalist wasn't so goddamn boring and below average). |
I'd recommend Rishloo and Soen, both are pretty high quality Too knock-off bands.
|
The mighty Forced Entry of Seattle
You might recognize these guys from the "Lame List" on "Almost Live!". I was at several shows, hanging with my friends Wreck Creation who opened several shows for 'em. The only one of the three I actually met was Tony (bass & vocals)
(shitty video quality, but TOTALLY worth watching |
Band suggestions for someone who likes...
Stereomud (a band from about a decade ago)
Dark New Day Karnivool (Australian band, badass) Veer Union Stone Sour Nonpoint I know that's kind of a random mix of bands, but I like heavy and I like melodic too. And I like good vocals, but don't mind a little screaming as long as it isn't over the top. There are a ton of other bands I like, but I thought these might give you a decent idea of the range of stuff I like when it comes to rock/heavy. I am sick of Pandora and Last.fm always recommending Seether, 3 Days Grace, Staind, and Breaking Benjamin all the time to me. I've heard nearly every mainstream band and nothing has really piqued my interest as it all sounds the same (although I do like Breaking Benjamin for the most part). As for the "heavy" definition, people recommend FFDP a lot, but I don't think their singer is any good and I can't get into them. I can go as heavy as Times of Grace, though they walk a very thin line (and do it well) with the really high pitched screaming that I usually just think sounds silly. Better screaming to me is like Slipknot or the song "From the Outside" by All That Remains (though most of their other stuff is crappy). Anything come to mind to anyone that I might like? Hope this is the right forum for this. |
I'll list all the post-grunge, nu-, groove- and alternative metal bands I know.
-Nickelback -Foo Fighters -Linkin Park -Slipknot -Pantera -Korn -Limp Bizkit -Three Days Graze -Rage Against the Machine -Gojira -Machine Head -Lamb of God I know they are mainstream, but it's all I have, dude. |
Cog are very similar to Karnivool and are Australian too. Sharing Space is a great album.
You may like Filter too. The album The Amalgamut would suit your purposes. |
maybe the killers
|
How are they similar to the previously mentioned ones?
|
you might want hear the accept's latest albums stalingrad or blood of the nations
this german band seems pretty good to me |
Thanks guys! I'll check out COG and The Accept.
Problem with me is I find a lot of bands have a few good songs, but not all of them. I.E. "As I Lay Me Down" by Machine Head is an awesome song, but a lot of their other stuff is not nearly as flowing. I'm very familiar with Filter, and I like them. I also love A Perfect Circle, though MJK's new ventures haven't been nearly that exciting in the last decade. |

dark rock recommendations
Hello I am looking for some dark rock albums with a great sense of imagination and atmosphere. I realize this is incredibly ambiguous but I am not looking for a specific style of music but rather the evocation of certain emotions or feelings. I am not looking for a contrived sense of atmosphere but one that eminates atmosphere through the music organically; so for example, I'm not looking for ambient music. I prefer traditional rock instruments bass-guitar-drums and synth/keyboards are welcome too. I also prefer a male vocalist.
Prime examples of what I am looking for include: Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals Christian Death - Only Theatre of Pain, Catastrophe Ballet London After Midnight, The Cure, Death in June, Sopor Aeternus, Placebo, are also good examples too. However, I listen to plenty of post-punk, goth, deathrock albums so it is unlikely there is anything within that realm that I haven't already explored. Same with the obviously popular bands. I also listen to far too much metal music that I am really not looking for metal recommendations, although it is fine if the music has influences. Also, I'm not really looking for ethereal or overly soft music and electronic-based music can really be hit&miss with me because I find a lot of it to sound overwhelmingly generic. Again, I realize this is a very ambiguous request but feel free to recommend anything you feel fits this vague criteria. Thanks in advance. |
You might find that some of the more popular post-punk bands from the '80's can deliver on what you're after. Here's two albums I think you might enjoy
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Lionsmouth.jpg The Sound - From The Lion's Mouth One of the post-punk bands from the same time as Joy Division and PiL, but never reaching that same level of popularity, this album is pretty dark, in both lyrical content and just the overall mood created by the instrumentation. Atmosphere is harder to quantify, and this may not be what you want, but here's my favorite song off it. Here's the second album https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/i...2YyPPH1FqrdlxA Killing Joke - Extremities, Dirt, and Various Repressed Emotions Killing Joke is one of my absolute favorite bands, largely for their longevity and their diversity. 30+ years of making music and they always manage to stay relevant, but this album in particular is one of their darkest, while still clinging to their roots. Again, here's my favorite song off the album. |
^ I remember seeing that album from The Sound listed on rateyourmusic's charts, probably under top post-punk albums and I'm certain at some point I even sampled some songs on youtube. Anyhow, I gave it a listen and enjoyed the album, the opening song especially is great reminding me not just of the bands you mentioned but also of Kommunity FK, whom I'm a huge fan of.
And that Killing Joke album is just awesome though. I know I've listened to it once before in an effort to catch up on their 90s material but for some reason this one eluded my collection when I bought Pandemonium (which is due for a listen as I'm not too familiar with it). I've heard some of their newer stuff too but I'm primarily familiar with their 80s albums. I'm glad you mentioned Extremities because hearing it again was like hearing it for the first time. If you've got any other recommendations, it certainly wouldn't hurt to list them off. You never know, there might be some I haven't heard or some that I just haven't heard in a while. Thanks. |
Favourite Rock & Metal?
Here we go: Lamb of God, Queens of the Stoneage, Led Zeppelin, |
still searching for bands like...
fair to midland a perfect circle karnivool atreyu (congregation of the damned) ra deftones anyone? i like heavy but interesting with great vocals. seems so hard to find these days... |

Screamo died out in the 90s. Was part of the post-punk scene. What you hear today is actually labeled as post-hardcore. |
Quote:
And no, those bands frequentlyinsong mentioned are not screamo and even calling them post-hardcore would be stretching it. |
Quote:
And saying something died is just an expression. There are always bands out there making some kind of music. |
Anyone who is into A Perfect Circle, the bands Tool (Notable tracks are Sober, Third Eye, and Schism.) and Placebo (Meds, Blind, Running Up That Hill cover, Post Blue, Infra-Red, Black Market Blood, and A Song To Say Goodbye.) are good and have a similar sound. Them and a couple of Massive Attack songs (Basically the whole Mezzanine album with the album-titled track being unfortunately underrated and the best).
Also Step on Inside by Vietnam has a similar sort of creepy sound and unfortunately the only good song I found by them apart from Welcome To My Room. |
