Meh. I don't hate them, but I don't particularly care about them. I prefer Between the Buried and me for that whole extreme metal meets prog kinda thing. And how can I forget Akercocke. That's another band you need in your life. Brutal ****ing death metal with some of the most out of this world experimentation that is infinitely better and more interesting than Opeth.

I've heard some of those names but never checked them out, and I trust the swedes to provide with the best. I had a friend who was really into Morbid Angel, but I would always supersede anytime he mentioned them with Morbid Saint, I just wouldn't have it that they had similar names. But I'll check em all out.
Wait, so you have something against Morbid Angel because you like Morbid Saint? Trust me, there is room in your life for both.

Opeth are forgettable. The songs manage to be both incoherent & formulaic.... the songs never seem to flow correctly, but instead are a mish-mash of the same old ingredients.

Hi. First post on this forum. I'm looking for some music and would like some recommendations. More specifically, I'm looking for bands like Hammerfall, Manowar and Edguy.

Thanks.

Anti-John 01-13-2013 11:10 PM

what are some alternative bands like Pavement, Pixies, Fugazi etc?

I'm looking for bands that have a similar sound to Pavement, (early) Weezer, Pixies, The Unicorns etc. I love how they have all have this gritty alternative sound mixed with melodic beats and stuff like that. On the other side of the spectrum, I also really like Fugazi in the same way. They're somewhat similar to those other bands except they have a more punk/post-hardcore sound. Sonic Youth or Husker Du may also be more on that side of the spectrum with Television and Talking Heads somewhere in the vicinity. Anyway, any suggestions?

I think I need some help getting into David Bowie. I tend to like artsy weirdos so Bowie should be right down my alley. Thing is, his back catalog is fairly huge and, from what I've heard, very diverse. I remember a couple years back listening to Low (which I mostly liked) and Ziggy Stardust and the etc (which I mostly disliked.) Anybody have any recs based on that info?

"Let's Dance" is a pretty honest pop effort which I enjoy:

Morbid Angel is ****ing great Bat. feel like an idiot for not having listened sooner.

How about some good Viking/Folk metal? preferably something that doesn't drift towards powermetal, the vocals are too much sometimes.

Viking metal? Try the band that invented it. Bathory. Probably my favorite metal band of all time.

Insane Guest 01-24-2013 11:54 AM

I have Hammerheart, haven't checked out any of their newer or earliest releases, what would you go with?

I heard a sweet song on a Spanish metal show called Bang Your Head, it could have been in Lord of the Rings it was that badass, had a cool melodic guitar riff, and vocals drifting towards black metal.

Their earlier stuff pretty much created black metal and it's just as amazing as their later stuff. You can't go wrong with any of their first four albums. They're all stone cold classics.

First album...

Second album...

Third album...

Fourth album...

You mean...?

Insane Guest 01-25-2013 11:04 AM

Those were pretty sweet, definitely going to be picking some of those up.
Reminds me a lot of Venom.

But nah the show was called Bang Your Head, I think the track was by Ensiferum, because I know I've heard it before, haven't found it yet though.

Does anyone know any extreme metal band with a female lead vocalist? Been looking for this kind of thing for a long time, but nothing so far.

DogSolitude 01-31-2013 05:57 PM

I'v been trying to find a few hard rock or metal bands which have western or country influences ie. Clutch/Avenged Sevenfold, if it has a solid base line and deep vocals, all the better

Any recommendations?

jent 02-02-2013 08:27 AM

This thread has some decent leads. Lots of known stuff but William has listed some pretty cool lesser known stuff. Sounds like you belong in the other thread.

Sug0rt 02-22-2013 12:04 PM

Anyone got any recommendations of bands which are really heavy like Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death and Suffocation, but without the really growly voices. I am aware that they seem to go hand in hand, however, just wondering if there may be any exceptions?

Isbjørn 02-25-2013 06:42 AM

Looking for something similar to this:

Franco Pepe Kalle 02-26-2013 03:08 PM

Here is one good song that I actually willing to tolerate. If you love Ac/Dc, you need to hear this song.

You mean straight up doom/death? If so:

I'm looking for something in the same vein as this:

hip hop bunny hop 02-27-2013 11:55 AM

Yeah, I like disEmbowlment, Thorr's Hammer and their various descendents, but the thin production of Necro Schizma put me off. Dunno what I think of Unholy.
