Just for quick clarification, when I said "difficult to play" I should have said "difficult to reproduce". I didn't mean they didn't have the technical ability to play, just that the songs didn't work live. Metal Connoisseur put it best by mentioning the scale and effects involved in the songs.

I like both bands. But had to go with Slayer. Metallica are a great band though

I can't remember what I voted for in this thread, it was probably Metallica. I gave a listen to the "Beyond Magnetic" album and I thought it was very bland. Hetfield sounds like a country singer now. So, if I had another chance to vote, i'd go with Slayer, at least they're sticking with their sound.

Most people do seem to think that he now sounds horrible, so a country singer is probably an apt description.

I don't really care for their new sound too much. I wouldn't consider them sellouts, more...experimental.
