I'm not listening to it yet, but I plan on sitting down and reading Pilgrim's Progress while listening to this album with no breaks. I'm hoping the combination of old, mystical poetic literature and heavy-as-a-whale riffs will create a transcendent experience.

At the very least I'm sure the Pilgrim's progress will be severely reduced.

It was... or at least, my reading was. At points I was so zoned out from the crushing riffs coming at me over and over and over that my eyes glazed over and I stopped reading completely.

About halfway through the album I switched to reading Fox's Book Of Martyrs. It was a fitting soundtrack to all of the death and gruesome torture.

I think this album is basically the pinnacle of tech death

Of all of the thrash albums ever made Reign In Blood might just hold up the best today. Rick Rubin's production might have killed the atmosphere on this album, but it also gave it an intensity that puts most death metal or grindcore albums to shame.

Bathory are and always will be the greatest black metal band of all time.
