A time when thrash was still establishing itself. When 1986 happened and Master of Puppets, Reign in Blood, and Peace Sells... But Who's Buying dropped, the number of these kind of albums dropped precipitously. Speed metal was most definitely a thing, but it was just another flavour of the American thrash metal movement, much like American power metal, that merged with the greater thrash movement when it finally coalesced fully.

Power metal, heavy metal, whatever, Crimson Thunder is quite possibly the greatest pop metal album of all time. At least top 10 no doubt.
