I`ve checked this out on wiki and this is another series I`ve added to read.

It is way better than the Lord of the Rings (claim made based on first hand experience). It's one damn epic series. Seriously, if you enjoy reading at all, you should be frantically racing to your nearest library or book store to pick this up.

I've only got the first book and am about half way through it, but so far, it's pretty sextacular. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that it's better than LOTR yet, but I've heard it only gets better.

I would also like to note that while reading in general is pretty much impossible when high, if you can keep your attention on it, LOTR is the only book that I've ever enjoyed reading while stoned. The whole atmosphere of the book and the imagery just come alive with a good toke.

I'm glad I found this thread. Fates Warning is criminally underrated. I love both Arch and Adler. I was listening to both "Awaken the Guardian" today and the new Arch/ Matheos release "Sympathetic Resonance," which is really good and it's amazing that Arch can still hit the high notes after all these years. Here's a track from each, and if you haven't picked up the new Arch/ Matheos release, i would highly recommend it. Great thread.

Cirith Ungol - "King of the Dead"

Not sure if you'd count this as Power but it has many of the power qualities. Maybe slightly more Doom/Heavy but still great. I fell in love with the title track particularly.

Really? So far all you've missed has been us nerds arguing over fantasy novels and Tolkein lore of yore. Your post has been the first useful one.

Yeah, there are definitely some nerd overtones to power-metal, but considering my all time guilty pleasure band is Rhapsody of Fire-- I'm drowning in nerdom already, as they take it to a new freaking level, but I can't help it, I completely love them.

I bought the first two books on the series as they were going cheap in a bookstore here, I`m reading Game of Thrones the first book at the moment and its a great book which is slowly unfolding.
