I still don't see a huge connection. By those standards, most dirty, distorted punk is grunge too. I just think that outside of groups like Tad and Green River, grunge really had time to form into a real sound. I get that all the bands are sorta likeminded, and there was definitely a character to the Seattle scene, but I just don't see a definitive sound for the genre. If distortion and angst are it's main characteristics, a lot of other rock grouos can be considered grunge.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

Psychedelic, Screaming Trees.

I think you bought into the marketing scheme when you were younger and have done a lot of mental gymnastics to rationalize it.

I didn't buy into any f***in scheme, so stop treating me like a tool. In fact, the only grunge album I ever bought was Nevermind, and that was before I was a fan. And like I keep saying, GRUNGE'S ANGST IS DISTINCTIVE. It is not the same kind of angst as punk or emo or anything.

In a philosophical sense, I'd say grunge's angst is a blend of a false sense of maturity and a desire to prove it, and anger at the world in general rather than specific things, as if the music is annoyed that the world feels pointless. That's the feeling I get when I listen to any grunge album.

Saying something over and over again doesn't make it mean any more sense.

But I just explained how it was different. And someone understood it. Not my fault you didn't get it.

I get it fine. You're just grasping at straws. Lots of music expresses angst. Just because a scene has lyrical similarities does not mean that those lyrics are specific to that scene alone.

And that's why other key factors are needed to make the sound, like I already said. Angst can't work without some of the raspy guitars, deep and unsettling bass riffs, unconventional time structures, heavy drumming, lasy vocal delivery or influence from punk/metal/alternative.
