ooo i wanna do that!
but i listen to crap music & dont know how to work those upload thingy majiggers :/ |
Out of urge to test my shoddy latin knowledge, I translated this to the best of my ability.
Amo amas amat amamis amatis amant (I love, you love, he loves, we love, yall love, they love) We are all romans unconscious collective We are all romans we live to regret it We are all romans and we know all About straight roads Every straight road leads home, (saying, all roads lead to Rome, which they did, because Rome was the center of it all) Home to rome 2 + 2 = 4 4 + 4 = 8 We organise via property as power (Property=power) Slavehood and freedom imperial purple (The only way slaves could become citizens was through excelling in war) Pax romana! (Roman Peace (only achieved two times during the Roman Reign)) Suckled by a she wolf, (Romulus and Remus) We turn against our brother (Remus turned against Romulus and vice-versa to gain control and get power of Rome, and in turning against each other they had to fight in war) Bella bella bella bellorum bellis bellis (war, war, war, to be part of war, in war, from war) Veni vidi vici I came I saw I conquered (just a famous phrase they threw in to go with the whole Roman power thing, Caesar was part of a whole different Roman era.) Basically I got from the whole thing we are slaves who want citizenship, and realize they will have to turn against other slaves fighting in war to win this citizenship. Which is ridiculous because the slaves really are Roman citizens inside. No matter how much they love they have to do what the Roman empire says because it is all powerful. |
I did a couple more of these, they're in my blog if anyone is interested.

Is it still OK to do this with all the share issue going on? If it is I will get to work on one within the next few days.
|
I think so since its individual tracks not albums. I've never seen blogs get in trouble for making mixes.
|
I think I may do genre ones, as I listen to so much different shít!
|
no corporation or government can stop all the blogs out there. the only way would be to shut down entire hosts, like Blogger; that's not going to happen
people need to stop being so paranoid. that's exactly what the OiNK fiasco was supposed to accomplish |

I'm going to do a new one after I do my finishing touches on my top 100.

The Crowquill 10
1. Art Brut "Bang Bang Rock and Roll" This song essentially sums up my musical taste as it was just shaping. Loud, ironic and punk influenced with lyrics that shouted my exact views at that age. "Bang, bang, rock and roll / I can't stand the sound of the Velvet Underground / White Light! White Heat! / I can't stand that sound the second time around." 2. The Beatles "A Day In the Life" Songs like For No One, Eleanor Rigby and this one were a big attraction to the Beatles for me. Dealing with loneliness and just a general melancholic sound I found myself playing them constantly, the Beatles really helped expand my horizons musically. My favorite lyric: I read the news today oh boy / About a lucky man who made the grade / And though the news was rather sad / Well I just had to laugh / I saw the photograph / He blew his mind out in a car." 3. Modest Mouse "3rd Planet" The thing that really annoys me about amazing opening songs is I find myself going back to them frequently and it holds up getting into the rest of the album. This was the case with 3rd Planet, it was probably the first Modest Mouse song I really liked, it's still in my top 5. Favorite lyric: "Your heart felt good / It was dripping pitch and made of wood / And your hands and knees / Felt cold and wet on the grass to me" 4. Belle and Sebastian "Piazza, New York Catcher" I fell in love with this song instantly upon hearing it, it sums up alot of what I love about music in one song. A wordy acoustic song dealing with love. Favorite lyric: I wish that you were here with me to pass the dull weekend / I know it wouldn’t come to love, my heroine pretend / A lady stepping from the songs we love until this day / You’d settle for an epitaph like “Walk Away, Renee” / The sun upon the roof in winter will draw you out like a flower / Meet you at the statue in an hour." 5. Morrissey "Late Night, Maudlin Street" Morrissey's musical career has been lengthy and full of lyrical genius, this song contains most of my favorite lines which says alot and I think it's one of the most honest songs i've ever heard. Favorite lyric: "You without clothes / Oh, I could not keep a straight face / Me without clothes / Well, a nation turns its back and gags." 6. Linda Perhacs "Hey, Who Really Cares?" This song stunned me when I first heard it, it was so serene and pure. Her voice sounded so fragile and as soon as I heard it I was brought to tears, something music rarely does for me. The song seemed to have been written at just the right time for me and where I was at that moment. Favorite lyric: "Hey now, who really cares / Hey, won't somebody listen / Let me say what's been on my mind / Can I bring it out to you / I need someone to talk to / And no one else would spare me the time." 7. Antony and the Johnsons "Hope There's Someone" Antony has possibly the most beautiful voice ever and sings with such pain it's intense enough to make Hitler break down and cry. My favorite lyric: "Oh I'm scared of the middle place / Between light and nowhere / I don't want to be the one / Left in there." 8. The Shins "New Slang" This song will change your life, I swear. Favorite lyric: "If you'd 'a took to me like / A gull takes to the wind / Well, i'd 'a jumped from my tree / And i'd a danced like the king of the eyesores / And the rest of our lives would 'a fared well." 9. Patrick Wolf "Ari's Song (Nico)" Now I cannot stand Nico, but damn Patrick Wolf covers her beautifully. I've always felt Patrick should release an album composed of piano songs because he does them so well. Favorite lyric: "Sail away my little boy / Let the wind fill your heart with light and joy." 10. Elliott Smith "King's Crossing" This list wouldn't be complete without an Elliott Smith song. So yeah here it is, my favorite song he's ever done. Favorite lyric: "It's Christmas time and the needles on the tree / A skinny Santa is bringing something to me / His voice is overwhelming but his speech is slurred / And I only understand every other word." A BIG JUICY DUB TEN
http://www.mentomusic.com/images/dubFrontBig.jpg Dub is not some ever changing musical form. It is a state of mind and flow. Sonically the music is brave and bold. Sit back, roll a big fat one and chill ras clot. 1.DUBMATIX-BLACK NILE DUB. 2.KING JAMMY-SLOW MOTION DUB. 3.SCIENTIST-DO IT EVRYWHERE DUB. 4.AUGUSTUS PABLO & DUB SYNDICATE-PRESSURISED. 5.TERMINALHEAD & MR.SPREE-TWISTED SYSTEM (ruts dc dub)-a bad choice now listening back!. 6.FARDA P-THE BLACK SINGLE (DJ kicks rockers hi-fi mix). 7.DREADZONE-STRAIGHT TO A SOUNDBOY. 8.DUBMATIX-BOOM BOOM REMIX. 9.LEE scratch PERRY & MAD PROFESSOR-DUB THESE CRAZY BALDHEADS. 10.SCIENTIST-DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES. ten_mb.rar - Ten Dub tracks - BADONGO |

|
I appreciate the sentiment Ethan. You won't like it, and that's ok. Maybe though a few out there will give it a listen and hear a new genre of music.

Dub is Great.
Anywho 1.The End, The Doors Listened to this when I was around 4 on a vinyl record my father has. Ive been known to randomly sing this song at any given time. I whisper the blue bus part alot. Possibly the Doors best song, besides five to one. 2, Bodies. The Sex Pistols. I like to call this sneer music. A song to piss people off, a song to sneer along to, in an automobile, going down the main way, all the time laughing and having a jolly good time. 3.Joy Division - Day of the Lords. I want this to be my Death song, amazing vocals from Ian Curtis, Its the gloomiest track i have ever heard. Brings me back to my precious life..where will it end. 4 NWA - **** the police. I found this song when I was six. My mother was at a loss due to my repeating of the lyrics. I got recess taken away for having it on a tape player...coming straight from the underground. 5. Blind- Korn Listened to this is grammar school, along with my little derelict friends, aka the target group, I remember after columbine, being brought to the office for psycho evaluation, along with the other 4 kids who listened to Manson, korn, and the likes. 6. PIL - Public Image. Oh how I enjoy this song. Public Image is something i sneer at, I violate every code of conduct that would go along for a decent public image. 7. Mayhem - deathcrush The destruction of my faith for the better good, of making my mind a whole. Picked up this EP in boston when i was 11. 8. Genocide Organ - The elders of Zion Industrial at its hardest, made me appreciate music that wasnt music. 9. Napalm death - Evolved as one Holy ****, my love for brutality started in 98 when i picked this up from a friend,. 10. Elliott Smith _ Cupids trick ..Its my life |

My thoughts on Jackhammers funk comp.....
1.Kay Gees-Let's Groove I was bobbing my head 3 seconds into this , nice horns , nice female backing vocals , cool as fuck bassline , ticks off all my funk boxes. Some lead vocals would have just been the icing on the cake though. 2.Backyard Heavies-Chitlin' Strut Nice groove but I felt it was a little bit on the bland side for an instrumental. 3.Sir Joe Quarterman & Free Soul-The Way I Do My Life I'm a sucker for waca waca guitars :D , this is going on my ipod. 4.The Notations-Superpeople Nothing wrong with this track as such other than it made me want to go listen to Curtis Mayfield instead. 5.Scott Moody-(We Gotta) Bust Out Of The Ghetto Part 1 The best one yet for me , fantastic tune with a bit of social commentary to give it a little more substance , exactly the reason why I love Sly Stone so much .... nice. 6.Skull Snaps-It's A New Day Thought it was a bit generic at first but once it had started to pick up I enjoyed it a lot more.By the end I loved it. 7.Dawson Smith-I Don't Know If I Can Make It (Part 1) Pleasant, but didn't really do much for me 8.Rasputins Stash-The Devil Made Me Do It Great song , if I was going to be really picky though i'd say it felt a little lightweight for a song with that title. I was hoping for something a little dirtier or nastier. 9.Johnny Taylor-Aint Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) The only song here i've already heard & like Jackhammer I love it. 10.The Crusaders-Stomp and Buck Dance Pure blaxploitation movie soundtrack , and I fucking loved it. :D 11.Undisputed Truth-Got To Get My Hands On Some Lovin' This is how funk rock SHOULD sound. Are you listening to this Red Hot Chili Peppers ?? In summing up , great comp. Although there were songs I liked more than others I didn't hate anything and only skipped one song before it got to the end of it. And that was more because I wanted to hear what was next rather than not liking the track. Vol 2 please Mr Jackhammer. |
I do have a beginning of a volume two. I will wait a couple of days for people to (hopefully) get into this. glad you pretty much enjoyed it Urban. The last track rocks!
|
1. Overture-Patrick Wolf
2. Fallen Angel-King Crimson 3. By The Time I Get To Arizona-Public Enemy 4. Save Yourself-Aesop Rock 5. Place To Be-Nick Drake 6. The Libertine 7. Paranoid Android-Radiohead 8. Masters Of War-Bob Dylan 9. 1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be) 10. Four Winds-Bright Eyes |
Yea that last track by undisputed truth is very good. And Urban Hatemonger i found your RHCP comment funny because it is true. I wouldn't mind seeing a little more of that in there music now. It sounded a good deal like some BSSM though.
All in all the compilation was good, a few really good songs, but some were just average funk/rock. |

He should have left out the refrain and added more solo's or jamming. I don't know, i'm picky about my funk. |
Did you like the comp overall though?
|
Yeah I did, I have to be honest though, as much as I love funk its a very stagnant (socially) music. It sounds very 70's, its about 30% racial oppression stateside as far as lyrics go. Its something I noticed and I didn't want to repeat what people above were saying but Undisputed Truth is absolutle brilliant.
|
Funk was the North American paralell to Jamacia's reggae in the 70's. Both dealt extenstively with many racial problems that were prevalent at the time. The message did'nt always work but the result is fascinating to listen to.
|
Oh well absolutly. I mean the contribution that funk made to music is undisputed. The issue is its a very hard line to walk, and thats why there aren't many good funk bands. All to often funk songs spill too far into jazz or soul and it takes the funk out of it.
I mean as damn foolish as I don't wanna bump with no fat women anymore is, its undisputed funk. And Funk to me was always the brother of rock music. Less about how technical the music was and all about how it felt. You need to feel both with your soul and if you dont it comes off terrible. But the updated versions of it, what they call "white boy funk" certainly makes the transition to the contemporary worth it. Prince is a monster, Beck's Midnight Vultures is brilliant, and I can't say enough for whats its done to indie. |

I agree wholeheartedly. How about a compilation from yourself? Us mod's have to set a predecent for people. My funk comp is not perfect and is not my favourite genre but I am so desperate for people to expand their tastse and I am hoping these comps will tempt a few people to open up musically! (I got one PM requesting similar music today which is a result) |
