There's a part 2 in my Fall thread :D

Yes, I know.
Are you trying to seduce me Urban? You'd make a good drug dealer. ;) |
That's the starter kit
I could always arrange an intermediate kit & an advanced kit :p: |
*just say no RT...just say no!
Actually that's a good idea... ...damn! |

What is it? The same title as my three part compilation that contains a lot of music that I listen to, but not neccessarily all. I have aimed to go for artists as unknown as possible and I will keep it eclectic but listenable at the same time. Feedback is always appreciated. Volume one. Open, Parachute!-Gray. An independent band that Lespaul got me into. I think they are still unsigned. The contrast between the gentle piano riff that dominates the first half lulls you into a false sense of security as the guitar heavy last half turns the song on it's head and adds another emotional edge. Tim Maia-Irunizacao Racional. A great slice of European soul that eases my mind. Anoice-Aspirin Music. A fairly apt title from this Japanese post rock band, who rarely give titles to their own tracks. There are a couple of heavy passages that save the song from melting into the cliched Post rock genre. Talk Talk-Eden. A track that is now 20 years old, but still has the power to astonish in it's emotional resonance and musically complexity. Mark Hollis's vocals are the not the most technical, they are however honestly soul searching and the sparse instrumentation fits like a glove. Dizzee Rascal-Pussyole (Oldskool). The guy is only 21 but he appreciates the musical development of Rap/Hip-Hop and produces a track that acknowledges early 90's rave while still giving us something original. HUGE bassline! Goblin-Zombi. Zombi is the European title (except for the U.K) for George A. Romero's film follow up to his seminal Night of The living Dead. Legendary Italian Horror film director Dario Argento acted as producer and used an inhouse Rock/Experimental band to score his movies. The film actually ended up using a score of library tracks and Goblin originals. This jazz flecked number is so indicative of late 70's movie soundtracks, but Goblin were also highly regarded in experimental circles too. The Frames - Fitzcarraldo. The Frames are a band you either love or hate. Their brand of melancholic indie rock is not particulary original. However it is completely heartfelt and the beautiful fiddle add's a simple yet effective aspect to their music. The percussion work is also unusual and features repetitive snare beats that somehow work. Loop-The Nail Will Burn. One of many shoegaze bands that seemed to be everywhere in the U.K circa 1988-91. Loop's music was atypical of the genre but the simple decision of mixing the vocals until they are virtually unintelligible adds a different dimension to their sound. Vio-lence-Phobophobia. Maybe a pointless addition but I always appreciated the fact that their music was always about big riffs and delivered well. Sean Killian's vocals are definitely an acquired taste. Peversley this aspect enamoured me more to the band than most other thrash bands at the time. It takes a while to gain momentum but there are some classic riffs on this track. Ian Dury-Wake Up And Make Love To Me. One of the finest lyricists this country has ever produced. This is a jaunty little funky pop song that show cases a national treasure. Mass-III. An experimental band that got lost in the cultural uncertainty that gripped the U.K in the early 80's. Did we go for Joy Division nihilism, pop music enthusiasm or retro lamentation? Because of this uncertainty, many bands did'nt get the attention they deserved. Mass where one such band. John Martyn-Lookin' On. One of our very finest singer/ songwriters but unfortunately afflicted with a self destruct button. John Martyn is highly revered in musicians circles and has a voice made of honey. His Jazz-Folk music has always enthralled the club crowd, yet his considerable talents deserve more. This is a glorious jazz rock track from Grace And Danger that was written in the aftermath of his divorce. The most scary aspect of this album is that Phil Collins plays Drums on it and proves to be a very good drummer! Fear Factory-No One. I have always liked simple repetitive riffs that bombard your senses and Fear Factory seem to have the monopoly on clean efficient, almost military style metal riffs. The double bass drum/ guitar riffs work really well and they are a band that satisfy my noisy quick fixes! Ulrich Schnauss-Einfield. I am going to be honest. This sort of music has been banged out by Tangerine Dream and assimilated by bands like Sigur Ros for years now, but somehow that does'nt matter. Ambient music is just that. The artist is secondary. The ambience is all that matters. If someone can produce simple notes in an effective order and make me forget about life's troubles, even if it's only for the song's duration; then I appreciate it. The Kinks-Last Of The Steam Powered Trains. Better than The Beatles? I have stumped myself! This is a classic 60's pop/rock sound that could easily encapsulate how good the British music scene was in the 60's. RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting |

Ok here is my list, (edit) now with description....most of this is indie rock but I really hope you give it a chance :o:
Holland 1945 - Neutral Milk Hotel beautiful song i mean who does'nt think so? I picked this song from one of my favorite albums aeroplane over the sea......if you don't have it get it now!!! Knocked On The Fortune Teller's Door - Lilys Another great song, from one of those great bands none have ever heard of.....please for the sake of good music check these guys out...... Flakes - Mystery Jets I actually found these guys on a record label site and ordered their ep and it had one of the best covers ive ever heard but alas.....i have lost it,but Flakes is still a great song so please give it a listen...... Electriclife - Psychic Ills Reminds me of echo and the bunnymen.......good stuff,if your lookin for somethin new check these guys out please.....saw them live and it was phenomenal....... Seashells - Seabear love this song........love it,love it,love it.......and you should to :) Tastefaker - Souls She Said good psychedelic rock.......I really don't know who sounds like them but the guitarist is amazing..........but im sorry to say they are no more.......if you like Don Devore's guitar work you might want to check out Vague Angels as well...... Cut Back The Heard - The Icarus Line From Their Black Presents EP......again Don Devore's guitar work is ****ing amazing and so is Joe Cardemone's vocals (yes i am crazy for Don) Dreams - TV On The Radio Yet another beautiful song......I really just love this song and I hold it near and dear.......... When Cherry Blossoms Breeze Past Lotus Leaves - Vague Angels Not Don's guitar work but he just joined this band.....i love the guitar work though.....truly love it....please give these guys a chance.........ive talked to them more then a few times and their very nice........ Warm Rising Sun - Radar Bros. Another great song by the radar bros. Its becoming one of my favorite songs......and i really can't describe how great this song is............i really can't My 10 track Compilation |
I'm going to do a multi genre one.
But not until after i've listened to Lee's. |
Down with the Sickness - Disturbed Can't say anything about this song, except that it drew me into Disturbed, and I love it for that. Not my favorite, and definately not the most meaningful song, but without it I wouldn't have Disturbed.
Best of You - Foo Fighters Very important song to me. When it was released I was struggling with a girlfriend and this song seemed to fit perfectly with my mood. Sanitarium - Metallica Probably my favorite Metallica song; it has the quietness of Nothing else Matters along with the insaneness of Four Horsemen. Blackbird - Alterbridge First song I listened to off Alterbridge's debut album (Blackbird). Some of the best guitar work I've heard in modern music, so I cherish this song and album. Mr. Crowley - Ozzy Osbourne This song furthered my admiration of Randy Rhoads. 2 of my favorite solos ever. Breath - Breaking Benjamin Great song. "You take the breath right out of me/left a hole where my heart should be." Overburdened - Disturbed One of my favorites from their 3rd album. Its talking about a soldier who has gone to hell for killing someone in combat. He doesn't understand why; he was only following a ruler he thought was just. I don't have the time (nor you to the patience) to explain why this song means so much to me :) Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne First song I ever heard from Randy Rhoads. *sigh* only the good die young.... One - Metallica Same as Overburdened, really. Higher - Creed This song was released when I was about 8 or 9, and I think its one of the reasons I got into rock music. Plus its a beautiful song. |

^ Not important.
Your 10 would have been more interesting, had you written why you chose them. Quote:

Right Track has reiterated what the thread is about. Don't just post a compilation. Tell us why those songs are in or post your own opinions on them.

I would a Primal Scream 10 tracker to convince me that I should listen to them more srsly.

^^
On it |
http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l99/urbanH/bob.jpg THE PRIMAL SCREAM 10 1. Crystal Crescent The bands second single and the one that thrust them to the forefront of the C86 movement. 2. Treasure Trip Jangly indie pop from their debut album Sonic Flower Groove. They disowned this album even before it came out , but I like it. 3. I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have Soulful rock ballad from their self titled second album. This song had the crap remixed out of it and was the basis for Loaded on the Screamadelica album. 4. Don't Fight It Feel It (7" Edit) I actually like this version better than the full version on Screamadelica , it seems more stripped down & to the point. I think this is the best dance record they ever made. 5. Screamadelica Although the title track wasn't included on the album it was included on the Dixie Narco E.P. This song is a glorious 10 minute psychadelic / dance / soul / funk workout. 6. Kowalski Heavy as fuck song based on Richard Sarafian's 1971 movie Vanishing Point. The highlight of the album Vanishing Point. 7. Motorhead Somehow Primal Scream play this louder & heavier than Motorhead & Hawkwind ever did. 8. Exterminator Title track from the bands 6th album , this is included purely for the bassline alone. 9. MBV Arkestra This song is pretty much what it says in the title , Kevin Shields (MBV) does Sun Ra (Arkestra) . This song goes from being dance to bangra to rock to jazz to noise and then back again in my opinion it's the best ever song Primal Scream have ever written. 10 When The Bomb Drops The best song by miles off the Riot City Blues album , features a guest appearance by Will Sergent of Echo & The Bunnymen on guitar doing his typical swirly Bunnymen style playing. 11 Velocity Girl [Bonus Track] 80 Seconds of pure jangly indiepop heaven. This is the Primal Scream track that appeared on the famous C86 compilation. LINK |
Many thanks Urban. I like the Exterminator album so that's a plus. Jangly indie pop sends shivers down my spine but for all the wrong reasons. Probably my least liked genre of music but big up and I will give this a listen.

We need a way to share these comps with each other. I'm a n00b so forgive me if I'm overlooking the obvious.

1. 99 Red Balloons - Goldfinger
Reminds me of all the good times i have during summer with my friends, all around fun song. 2. Feel the Silence - Goo Goo Dolls 4. A really great "feel good" song a great one to listen to whilst cuddling up with that special someone :P. 3. Summer Skin - Death Cab For Cutie See Above. 4. Iggy Pop - The Passenger This song was one we listened to alot while taking this huge road trip down to Nevada. It was an experience i will never forget. 5. Beautiful Day - U2 Bono's powerful lyrics make this song an absolute masterpiece of a song. Easily in my top ten of all time. 6. Can't Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers bah bah dadado bah bah dadadadodo bah bah bunanana dah dah... etc. 7. Reckoner - Radiohead listen to this and tell me this isn't an amazing song. im willing to pay money to anyone who gives me 3 reasons why it sucks. 8. For Tomorrow - Blur Quite possibly the happiest song on the planet, great song to help you cheer up. 9. Layla - Derek and The Dominos One of the greatest riffs and solos of all time kicks off the song, then has a soothing second half to bring it all home. 10. Stop The Dams - Gorillaz Absolutely amazing, greatest B Side of all time. No question. |
Because no one has ever heard these songs before.

But it's not is it? Because even if someone was interested, they couldn't download it because no link has been provided.

Some people can't up music for whatever reason and although it can be annoying, it is relatively easy to get hold of the tracks. The last comp however doesn't grab me all that much!

Iva Bittova and Vladimir Vaclavek - Uspavanka-loved this one. Beautifully simplistic. Birdsongs of the Mesozoic - Coco Boudakian-Although it reminded of 70's film soundtracks at time i still really liked this one. Need to checkout more of these. John Cale - Barracuda-the guitar hook is wonderfully simple and catchy. Melvins - A History of Drunks-This was great. Scuzzy rock. Melvins passed me by. Looks like I will have somecatching up to do! The Jesus Lizard - Monkey Trick-Same as above! Akron/Family - The Rider (Dolphin Song)-I found the sax work to be disconcerting. That aside it had an incredible brooding atmosphere. Ui - Elettrodomestici-I loved the rythmn on this track. NoMeansNo - Rags and Bones-I have heard their name a few times but this is my first introduction to them. Loved it. reminded me of Blues Explosion. All in all, an excellent compilation, eclectic and featuring a wealth of lesser known bands. Even more impressive considering you are nearly half my age. |

also, I should have renumbered the tracks so they would play in that order, it is supposed to flow and be somewhat separated stylistically. oh well. |

fo sho, it'll be based off the tracks he liked so if anything else grabbed your interest just holla
|
I have stickied this. I hope the other mods are in agreement.
|
I'm entertaining the thought of upping a comp., but I'm a little nervous about it after seeing that RIAA thread. :( Should I?
|
As long as its not a full album you'll be fine.
