Also i have been thinking of making a compilation or group of Trance songs maybe 10-11 tracks long. I love the genre, but im not sure if theres enough people here that would want to listen to it. |

The Bottle is the outstanding track and my love for that tune is no secret here. Ohio Players are a class act too. |
Not a bad choice for a villa fan eh? ;).
Let's get a new comp from you soon RT! |
Just to touch on something Urban said earlier, funnily enough...Ohio Players were big influences for RHCP who covered one of there records, Love Rollercoaster.
Edit: If your a fan of Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas, I believe (Ohio Players version) it's on one of the in game radio stations. Edit 2: Quick wiki search...Bounce FM...which includes 'Funky Worm' too! Edit 3: Soundgarden covered Fopp...well bugger me sideways! (not literally) |
Slight change of thread name.
Same rules apply; Here's your chance to compile a playlist of 10 tracks that mean something to you. Old/new/any genre...it doesn't even matter if you think most here have heard them before. What matters, is that you list the tracks in your post along with the link and a little write up to explain your choices. Just to clear things up, uploading compilations in this thread isn't breaking any MB rules. Member feedback on the compilations is always welcome. |

edit*and o yea, undisputed truth song was good, ihave been listening to a few of there albums since your first comp, and i like it alot. |
1. Joy Division - she's lost control
My favorite song by one of my favorite bands of all time, this one's on here mainly for a lot of personal memories tied up to it. It's one I never tire of listening to, no matter how many hours it spends on loop on my mp3 player. 2. Radiohead - black stars Definitely one of my favorite radiohead tracks, this one again is on here because of a very personal connection. 3. Gritz - ooh ahh This song never fails to get me in an energetic and good mood, mainly because I immediatley associate it with all my best skiing memories 4. Norman Greenbaum - spirit in the sky Hands down, one of the best road trip songs ever. Endless amounts of travel memories attached to this one. 5. bob dylan - it ain't me babe I love dyaln, and I believe that no one else but him could perform this song with as much heart and meaing. 6. smashing pumpkins - today great song, and the first one that got me into this band. i have my older brother to thank for getting me interested in them, and they remain a favorite still 7. The Black seeds - the answer Awesome kiwi dub band, and still remains my favorite years after I've become familiar with loads more dub bands. As soon as I hear this song i feel like i'm back in red rock bar in wanaka, knocking back vodka/lime/soda's and making the rounds chatting with everyone I knew, which was usually the entire bar. 8. pennywise - **** authority there's other songs by pennywise that I believe to be a lot better, but this one made the list before all them for a number of reasons. It was the song that got me into the band, and because of that, it has a lot of good memories attached to it, more so than any other pennywise song. I was playing this song the first time I did a cliff drop skiing 9. the kooks - seaside I listen to this song and i'm walking across this gorgeous golden sand beach right as the sun is coming up, looking out to the ocean and heading towards the trail that continues through rainforest and out into many other rediculously perfect and completely deserted beaches. Its no wonder this song made the list with those memories attached to it. 10. black rebel motorcylce club - shuffle your feet nothing but good memories attached to this song, skiing powder, driving up to go skiing, standing outside the car drinking a few beers before heading off the hill, this song playing on the sterio, still giddy and reved up from an amazing day skiing. notice a trend? no link for the moment, but i'll get on it once i get onto the computer with all my music on it. |
Gonna keep bumping these. I would especialy like to hear a BIGTHREE comp judging by his eloquent post in the folk forum recently.

10 Songs for a Sunday Night
1. The Eagles ~ The Last Resort 2. Billy Joel ~ Miami 2017 (Seen The Lights Go Out on Broadway) 3. Camel ~ Rhayader Goes To Town 4. Rush ~ Red Barchetta 5. Bob Dylan ~ The Times They Are A-Changin’ 6. Citay ~ Former Child 7. Pink Floyd ~ Wish You Were Here 8. Wishbone Ash ~ Northern Lights 9. Capability Brown ~ Garden 10. Simon & Garfunkel 7 O’Clock News/Silent Night Total Time: 48:35 For my first compilation here, I threw in quite a few well known bands with only one real unknown, Capability Brown were a 70’s prog band with the Charisma label that never really reached any form of popularity despite making incredible music (anyone want their albums, give me a PM, can’t get them anywhere else, vinyls are incredibly rare and mostly too damaged and there was no re-issue on cd) Garden is one of their softer tracks. The songs include two instrumentals: Northern Lights by Wishbone ash from their 2007 album The Power of Eternity, it’s a beautiful guitar instrumental however it is a departure from the rest of the album. It also includes the Camel instrumental from the snow goose, because it’s just that awesome. It’s mainly all soft rock with nice messages and themes without being too coherent together, but it does work very well all together. hxxp://www.sendspace.com/file/wrfwt7 |
Link added, I'm listening to it now, the first four tracks complement each other perfectly and then there's a huge leap from rush to dylan that I feel works very well in that it builds up for the Citay track which will jump back down a bit for Floyd and then it will all end very well on a sombre tone with the last three tracks.

Wait wait wait, that’s OBSCURE?
1. Comus - Drip Drip 2. Goblin - Suspiria 3. Capability Brown - Sole Survivor 4. Wishbone Ash ~ Phoenix 5. Bodkin - Aftur Yur Lumber 6. Rare Bird - What You Want To Know 7. Room - War 8. Spirogyra - Van Allen’s Belt 9. Toad - Cottonwood Hill 10. Capability Brown - Redman I know it has two Capability Brown songs, but I just wanted to get the message across on this one. For a lot of these I chose album openers because it is mainly all progressive rock and it’s normally best to be listened to in a coherent album setting, however the openers are usually far more accessible. The final song, Redman is a Rare Bird cover, which should be noted, the original however I feel isn’t as good, which is why I used a different Rare Bird song for their bit. Some of it can be quite hard to get into, but other stuff you’ll think “What, how was this band not massive?” hxxp://www.sendspace.com/file/lmaq0p |
Cheers, hey, just to stay within the rules, would I be able to do "Introduction to: *insert band here*" compilations?
|
Yeah just as long as it's not complete albums you'll be fine.
|
Cheers, I'll do an introduction to compilation when i get back from holiday in a week.

Introduction to Wishbone Ash
1. Wishbone Ash - Time Was 2. Wishbone Ash - Handy 3. Wishbone Ash - Vas Dis 4. Wishbone Ash - Lullaby 5. Wishbone Ash - Northern Lights 6. Wishbone Ash - Driving A Wedge 7. Wishbone Ash - Dreams Outta Dust 8. Wishbone Ash - Motherless Child 9. Wishbone Ash - Persephone 10. Wishbone Ash - Throw Down the Sword ENCORE (Bonus Tracks): 11. Wishbone Ash - Jail Bait 12. Wishbone Ash - Blowin’ Free 13. Wishbone Ash - Jail Bait, live in Shirley MA 12/08/2007 This is a beginning and end introduction, the compilation starts out with four early songs, Time Was from Argus (third album), Handy from their self titled debut, Vas Dis and Lullaby from their second album Pilgrimage. It then launches into two tracks from their most recent album Power of Eternity (2007) followed by two tracks from their second last release 2006’s Clan Destiny. It then launches into Persephone from their fifth album There’s The Rub and then another track from Argus; Throw Down the Sword. The Encore bonus tracks are Jail Bait from their second studio album Pilgrimage and Argus’s Blowin’ Free, then there’s a final live version of Jail Bait recorded a little over a month ago from a bootleg. Soft Machine "Facelift"
I dug this, especially around 7 minutes when it started to get really jazzy. A.D.D. "Trio" This was cool, it reminded me of that whole Ghosts & Vodka, Piglet mathy post-emo type stuff except with funner noises. I liked the wind instruments. Faust "The Sad Skinheaded" This was pretty cool, I didn't really dig the vocals though the guitar was nice. Birdsongs of the Mesozoic "Coco Boudakian" This band is sex, I heard the album awhile ago from your blog thing. Doctor Nerve "Money Where Your Mainz Is" This was pretty crazy John Cale "Barracuda" I think this one's my favorite so far. Jawbox "Motorist" Still not as good as Jawbreaker but still hot. Melvins "A History of Drunks" This was pretty cool. Faust "Just a Second (Starts Like That)" Schlammpeitziger "Pra-Digitaler Volksstuhlhanger" I kind of spaced out for these two =x Modest Mouse "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes" Easily one of the best songs on the Moon and Antarctica. The Jesus Lizard "Monkey Trick" I've never heard this band before but they're pretty sick. Akron; Family "The Rider (Dolphin Song)" I really liked the vocals on this one. David Grubbs; Jim O'Rourke; Markus Popp "Bauchredner" I dug this, I have some Jim O'Rourke stuff lying around I should listen to it. I'll post my various thoughts on the other half tomorrow. Ethans all thought out. |
Yeah the tagging on that last one is kind of off it's Gastr Del Sol which is a really great band (David Grubbs' solo stuff is worth checking out too)
|
I'm gonna be a little lazy, but here's what I'd do.
Keep in mind that this probably wouldn't be the order of the tracks. I'm one of those mixtape geeks, so coming up with a good order would probably take me a good few minutes. This is literally just what I would have on there, and is pretty much stuff I'm feeling right now. 1.) Bob Dylan-Cold Irons Bound (Masked and Anonymous version) 2.) Tom Petty-Face in The Crowd 3.) Leonard Cohen-Everybody Knows 4.) Joy Division-Disorder 5.) R.E.M. and Bruce Springsteen-Man on The Moon (live) 6.) Rob Zombie-Dead Girl Superstar 7.) Warren Zevon-Splendid Isolation 8.) Tom Waits-I Don't Wanna Grow Up 9.) Marilyn Manson-Last Day on Earth 10.) Placebo-Special Needs |
1. GO WEST - King of Wishful Thinking
A song I listen to every time I come off of a bad relationship. It's about trying to move on and get over someone, yet at the same time wondering if you'll ever truly get over them. 2. SIMPLY RED - Stars A beautiful love song - a mix of soul and pop/rock. "I want to fall from the stars, and into your arms." 3. THE HUMAN LEAGUE - Human We're all human, we all make mistakes. Perhaps my favorite Human League track. 4. KELIS - Get Along With You If you've ever been cheated on, you'll know why I put this song on here. 5. MISSING PERSONS - Destination Unknown Life can take you in so many different directions. Wherever you're going, there's no way of knowing. 6. MATTHEW WILDER - Break My Stride No matter what obstacles we face in life, we can't let them knock us down. 7. DEPECHE MODE - People Are People If everyone is truly good at heart, why do we hate, steal from and kill each other every day? 8. INXS - Never Tear Us Apart A song about falling into an unconditional love...so sweet. 9. SPANDAU BALLET - Through the Barricades Spandau Ballet's finest ballad - it brings tears to my eyes. :-) 10. CROWDED HOUSE - Don't Dream It's Over For some reason this song always gives me nostalgia. The lyrics are cleverly written and render this an 80s classic. |

I've always tried to avoid The Fall.
I have a couple of albums of theirs, but knowing what the size of the discography is, I tried my hardest to swerve the rest. Simply because I know what I'm like and judging by The Fall fans out there...I'll end up becoming obsessed with the back catalogue and soon I'll be in danger of it becoming all consuming. Bite size comps like this could do the trick though. |
